6,000 philanthropists supporting P4 scheme in Vizianagaram: Municipal Commissioner
VIZIANAGARAM Vizianagaram Municipal Commissioner P. Nallanayya has said that nearly 6,000 philanthropists have come forward to support the Public-Private-People Partnership (P4) programme, a State government initiative aimed at eradicating poverty. He said the ongoing survey under the P4 programme was progressing smoothly across all 50 municipal divisions to identify 'golden families' in need of support and mentorship. Mr. Nallanayya emphasised that the process of linking donors with beneficiary families would be carried out transparently, in accordance with the State government's P4 guidelines. He called upon members of organisations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Lions Club, and others to actively participate in the initiative, which he described as a novel and inclusive model for poverty alleviation.

Training for 4,400 yoga instructors
Vizianagaram: As part of the month-long Yogandhra-25 initiative, the Vizianagaram district administration is set to launch a massive yoga training campaign at the village level. Joint Collector and Yogandhra District Special Officer S. Sethumadhavan has directed MPDOs to immediately identify and register 4,400 yoga instructors to conduct grassroots training programs. From May 27 to 31, master trainers will train these selected instructors in their respective mandals. Each village secretariat jurisdiction is to identify seven yoga instructors, and their names must be promptly uploaded online. To facilitate the training, two master trainers will be assigned to each mandal. In an online review meeting held on Saturday, the Joint Collector discussed the preparation plans for Yogandhra-25 with district officials, program committee members, MPDOs, and municipal commissioners. It was announced that those who complete the five-day training will receive certification from the National Institute of Yoga. These certified instructors will then be responsible for conducting yoga training programs at the village level. Additionally, daily yoga sessions for city residents will commence from Monday, with classes to be held at the Paidithalli Ammavari Temple on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6 AM to 8 AM. Municipal Commissioner Nallanayya confirmed the arrangements for the same. The district tourism officer has been instructed to make necessary arrangements for yoga sessions at four major tourist locations in the district on May 30. All government departments have been tasked with encouraging mass participation in the International Day of Yoga celebrations. Officials are to ensure that their staff register through the yoga portal and also promote participation among the public within their departmental jurisdictions. Registered participants are expected to attend the main event on Yoga Day 21 June without fail.

People must adhere to approved plans during construction of houses: Vizianagaram Municipal Commissioner
Vizianagaram Municipal Commissioner P. Nallanayya have asked people to adhere to approved plans during their construction of their houses since the Corporation is very keen on planned development in the City. He said the licensed surveyors or licensed technical persons were made responsible to oversee the construction of the houses in accordance with rules and regulations of municipal authorities. According to him, the applicants have to produce a self certificate of construction details after consulting the licensed technical persons. They are supposed to follow the construction norms and deviation may lead to demolition of the structures. 'The authorised technical persons need to visit the site and observe the construction in progress. They should not allow construction of additional floors and violation of setbacks. We want to appoint more technical persons. The Corporation invited applications from youngsters with architecture background,' said Mr. Nallanayya while speaking to The Hindu. According to him, the Corporation is also keen on assessment of newly constructed houses and collection of arrears of property tax from existing property owners. The corporation could collect around ₹5.29 crore Rupees in the month of April, 2024 but it had gone up to ₹9.75 crore in April, 2025 with the special campaign taken by the civic body with regard to five percent discount on payment of property tax for the year 2025-2026. It is also insisting government offices to clear their property tax dues which were piled up for many years. The Corporation has to collect around ₹46.9 crore Rupees from government offices, private commercial complexes and others. It has strengthened the legal wing to get back the property tax with arrears by winning the court cases filed against the assesses who failed clear dues in spite of repeated notices. The Corporation is also keen to collect vacant land tax from the property owners.
