Uttarakhand CM meets PM, seeks Centre's support for multiple projects
New Delhi: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and sought guidance on various subjects related to the development of Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister expressed his sgratitude to the Central Government for its support in the state's development and stated that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Uttarakhand was ready to play an effective role in the vision of a Developed India by 2047. The Chief Minister said that all Indians felt proud that 27 countries across the world conferred their highest civilian honor upon the Prime Minister. He presented to the Prime Minister a replica of the Kartik Swami Temple, a coffee table book on the Adi Kailash Yatra, and local products from Uttarakhand including ghee from Kanar (Dharachula), red rice from Purola, Basmati rice, black cumin (kala jeera), gandhrayan herb, jambu herb, and local honey. The Chief Minister requested the Prime Minister to direct the concerned departments for infrastructure development of Haridwar Ganga Corridor, Rishikesh Ganga Corridor, and Sharda Corridor in Champawat, similar to the master plans implemented in Kedarnath and Badrinath Dhams, with financing through CSR funds. He urged the Prime Minister to also instruct the concerned ministries for: The Chief Minister informed the Prime Minister about the upcoming Nanda Raj Jat Yatra to be held in Uttarakhand in 2026 and said that environmentally friendly infrastructure must be developed for its smooth conduct.

Dhami meets PM, seeks Rs 3.5k crore aid for Kumbh 2027
Dehradun: Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday and sought financial assistance of Rs 3,500 crore for preparations for the Mahakumbh to be held in Haridwar in 2027. Dhami informed the PM that initial preparations for the Mahakumbh have already begun. For its successful organisation, key infrastructure upgrades are required, including the repair of bridges, expansion of parking facilities, improvements in electricity and water supply, construction of toilets, transportation networks and pedestrian pathways for pilgrims. The CM also invited Modi to attend the Nanda Raj Jat Yatra, a pilgrimage scheduled for Aug 2026, and sought Rs 400 crore in central assistance for its organisation. Seeking support for religious tourism and infrastructure development, Dhami urged the PM to direct relevant ministries to support the Haridwar Ganga Corridor, Rishikesh Ganga Corridor and Sharda Corridor in Champawat, on the lines of the Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham master plans. The project aims to connect the glacier-fed Pindar River to the rain-fed Kosi, Gagas, Gomti and Garud rivers. If implemented, it could benefit around two lakh people across 625 villages in Bageshwar, Almora and Nainital districts by improving irrigation and drinking water availability. Additionally, towns such as Garud, Kausani, Dwarahat, Ranikhet, and Almora would see an improved water supply for over 1.25 lakh residents." In the power sector, the CM sought the approval of a Rs 1,015 crore detailed project report (DPR) under the revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS). The project proposes undergrounding of high-tension (HT) and low-tension (LT) power lines and automation of the power system in Rishikesh and Haridwar. The CM also apprised Modi about the state govt's efforts to restore Chaurasi Kutiya, the heritage site near Rishikesh associated with the Beatles' visit in 1968, to its original form. He said funding arrangements have been made and sought clearance from the National Board for Wildlife. Additionally, Dhami requested early approval for five hydropower projects with a total generation capacity of 596 MW, based on the recommendations of a committee headed by the cabinet secretary.

Amit Shah Chairs Central Zonal Council Meet in Varanasi
Varanasi (UP): A meeting of the Central Zonal Council, chaired by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, discussed regional law and order, border security, disaster response and environmental protection with chief ministers and senior officials of four states on Tuesday. The CMs of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand attended the 25th edition of the high-level meeting held in Varanasi. The aim of the meeting, held at Hotel Taj, was to strengthen inter-state coordination and cooperative federalism, according to the Press Information Bureau (PIB). The last meeting of the council was held on October 7, 2023, in Uttarakhand. Zonal councils provide a structured mechanism for dialogue and discussion on issues affecting two or more states or the Centre and states and serve as an important platform to enable cooperation. Mr Shah, who arrived in Varanasi on Monday for a two-day visit, led discussions with the chief ministers of the four states and other senior officials. According to government sources, the discussions centred around social development, transportation and border issues, law and order, environmental concerns, and matters related to minorities. In a post on X, UP CM Yogi Adityanath said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has identified cooperative and competitive federalism as a powerful medium for the holistic development of the country. In this spirit, I participated in the 25th Central Zonal Council meeting chaired by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in Varanasi." He posted ahead of the meeting that the council strengthens federal unity, national integrity, and regional development. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami posted on X, "During the meeting, I requested increased support through the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to strengthen road, communication, and security infrastructure in the border areas. I also stressed the need for faster expansion of BharatNet and satellite communication services under the Vibrant Village Programme," he said. He said he requested that the grant process under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana be simplified, called for the repealing of the 1989 Remote Valley Notification, and asked for additional central assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana to repair roads damaged during natural disasters during monsoon in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand. He also requested the Centre's support for "setting up a glacier research centre, biodiversity conservation institute, and an international adventure sports training centre. "Additionally, I sought assistance for successfully organizing the Nanda Raj Jat Yatra (2026) and the 2027 Kumbh Mela," he said. Mr Dhami added that the state government is working towards making Uttarakhand an active contributor in building 'Viksit Bharat'. MP CM Mohan Yadav said the discussion focused on cooperation between states, development, security, health and tourism. He shared a photo from the meeting. Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai said the meeting saw detailed discussions on a range of critical issues and described it as a key step towards "cooperative and competitive federalism". Earlier in the morning, Yadav and Sai offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple ahead of the meeting. There are five zonal councils in the country that are statutory bodies set up under the States Re-organisation Act, 1956, to provide a common meeting ground to the states and Union territories in each zone for resolution of inter-state and regional issues, fostering balanced socioeconomic regional development and building harmonious Centre-state relations.

Uttarakhand to set up digital tracking, telecom infra on Nanda Raj Jat route
Dehradun: A digital tracking system and telecommunications setup will be installed along the 280km Nanda Raj Jat Yatra route for the 2026 pilgrimage across Uttarakhand. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed monthly reviews at the state level and weekly inspections at the division level to monitor the preparations, which aim to improve safety and facilities based on past experiences in the high Himalayas. Dhami has asked chief secretary Anand Bardhan to form a high-level committee for coordinating the yatra, held once every 12 years. He said, "We must make all necessary arrangements to face various challenges in the high Himalayan regions during the yatra. A digital tracking system should be established along with telecommunications arrangements on the yatra route." He said, "We should consider suggestions from public representatives, members of the Nanda Raj Jat Yatra Committee and stakeholders for better arrangements." He added that proper cleanliness should be maintained on all walking routes related to the yatra, and arrangements for accommodation, food and bathing should be ensured at all halts. Dhami said a helpline number would be issued for traveller safety. He instructed officials to ensure the availability of medical camps and doctors, and also make arrangements for air ambulances. At the NITI Aayog meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi on May 24, Dhami sought national support to strengthen sustainable tourism, including the Nanda Raj Jat. He also referenced the state's successful health preparations during the Char Dham Yatra, where over 5 lakh pilgrims were medically screened under a similar model.
