Vadodara city police orders complete closure of roads leading to Harinagar temple on Janmashtami evening

Considering the number of devotees expected to arrive at the ISKCON temple in Harinagar in the Gotri area of Vadodara city on the occasion of Janmashtami on August 16, the Vadodara city police on Thursday notified complete closure of roads leading to the Harinagar temple. In a notification, Commissioner of Police Narasimha Komar has ordered closure of four roads from 7pm Saturday till the time the Janmashtami celebrations are complete later in the evening. Closure has been notified for the road from Harinagar flyover to ISKCON Circle in Ward 11 as well as from ISKCON circle to Harinagar flyover. The road leading from the junction of Shyambaug society behind the Diwalipura district court to ISKCON temple as well as from Pratam Avenue (DMart) junction to ISKCON have been notified as closed. The notification states that the closure has been mandated for 'effective crowd management' as thousands of devotees are expected to arrive at the two temples located close by. The alternate route has been identified to divert traffic from under Harinagar flyover to ESI hospital junction to Sarabhai Colony and The Nest junction as well as from ISKCON circle to Gokul Party road towards The Nest junction and ESI hospital. From Shyambaug society, traffic will be diverted through Gadapura to PNB junction and thereon to Malhar point on OP Road. Traffic moving from Pratham avenue will also follow the same route via ISKCON circle. Gujarat Confidential: ‘Suraksha Bandhan'

Taking a unique way, the Vadodara city police decided to celebrate Raksha Bandhan on Saturday with two-wheeler riders, in order to convey a message of 'inescapable' fines for not wearing helmets, coming into effect from September 15. In an attempt to deter riders from zooming on their two-wheelers without helmets, the Vadodara city police, led by Commissioner of Police Narasimha Komar and Joint Commissioner of Police Leena Patil, stopped two-wheeler riders and tied a rakhi on their wrists to celebrate 'Suraksha Bandhan'. Along with sweets, the riders were served the message of 'wearing the helmet unfailingly' to 'protect themselves' and follow the traffic rules. Interestingly, Vadodara BJP Lok Sabha MP Hemang Joshi on Friday made a public statement urging the city police to ensure strict enforcement of helmet rules. Joshi said, 'If you get calls from political leaders, pressuring you to set anyone free in a helmet- related offence, divert their calls to me. There can be no escaping this rule as it is for the safety of all.' Probe & Chaos The recent suspension of Vadodara Municipal Corporation's Head of Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Dr Devesh Patel, Chief Fire Officer Manoj Patil, and Deputy Fire Officer Naitik Bhatt over an alleged Rs 3.17 crore procurement scam has raised questions about the role of the scrutiny committee, third-party inspections, and the Standing Committee seemingly turning a blind eye to the process of tendering and procurement. The controversy took a chaotic turn late on Friday night when Committee Chairman Dr Sheetal Mistry 'summoned' the current in-charge Deputy Fire Officer, Amit Chaudhary, to bring the controversial items and tools for inspection. As Chaudhary arrived with the fire personnel, carrying a huge and heavy sack of the items to Mistry's office, members of the Vishwamitri Bachao Samiti, a citizens group, questioned the motive. Advocate Shailesh Amin, who is part of the group and was also present on the VMC premises when the fire officials arrived with the items, asked as to why the chairman summoned the fire officers without keeping the municipal commissioner in the loop. 'If the Standing Committee has claimed that inspecting the tender details does not come under its purview, then whose jurisdiction is it to physically inspect the controversial items. This is the same Standing Committee, which, in many instances, returns proposals citing inflated bill amounts… We have demanded that the state government must include the VMC under its 'Operation Gangajal' initiative.' Incidentally, Amin had, on Friday morning, dashed a letter to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel demanding 'Operation Gangajal' — the state government initiative to take action against allegedly corrupt officials — in the VMC.

Police probing video of aid from Tandalja to Palestine

Vadodara: A video believed to be from Palestine, showing people holding a poster and a banner mentioning the Tandalja area of the city, has started circulating online. The video shows a woman at a community kitchen, taking the name of a group that helped them with the meals. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The video that surfaced on Saturday is undated and mentions the name of Aashiq-e-Rasool, Tandalja, Vadodara, Gujarat, India. A woman is seen holding the poster in her hands with the banner put up in the kitchen behind her. She thanks the organization for its support in feeding people. Both the poster and the banner have the Palestinian and the Indian flags on them. Later in the video, several people, including children, rush to get food from the kitchen. At this time too, the poster is displayed by a man who also clicks pictures with those who took food. The banner is visible even when the food is being distributed near a building that is damaged badly. Vadodara police commissioner Narasimha Komar said police were looking into a possible connection of the video with Tandalja. "We are trying to identify the organization or people that may have sent the aid. The video is from another part of the world and it may not be possible to check bona fides at that end," he said. He added that after the persons involved are identified, police will ascertain their intentions and connections. Tandalja saw protests against Israel last year after the attack on Palestine. In nearby Savli, a Palestinian flag was raised in the Lahori Vaga area.
