Considering the number of devotees expected to arrive at the ISKCON temple in Harinagar in the Gotri area of Vadodara city on the occasion of Janmashtami on August 16, the Vadodara city police on Thursday notified complete closure of roads leading to the Harinagar temple.
In a notification, Commissioner of Police Narasimha Komar has ordered closure of four roads from 7pm Saturday till the time the Janmashtami celebrations are complete later in the evening.
Closure has been notified for the road from Harinagar flyover to ISKCON Circle in Ward 11 as well as from ISKCON circle to Harinagar flyover. The road leading from the junction of Shyambaug society behind the Diwalipura district court to ISKCON temple as well as from Pratam Avenue (DMart) junction to ISKCON have been notified as closed. The notification states that the closure has been mandated for 'effective crowd management' as thousands of devotees are expected to arrive at the two temples located close by. The ISKCON temple is in close proximity to the Swaminarayan temple on the same road.
The alternate route has been identified to divert traffic from under Harinagar flyover to ESI hospital junction to Sarabhai Colony and The Nest junction as well as from ISKCON circle to Gokul Party road towards The Nest junction and ESI hospital. From Shyambaug society, traffic will be diverted through Gadapura to PNB junction and thereon to Malhar point on OP Road. Traffic moving from Pratham avenue will also follow the same route via ISKCON circle.
The notification stated that the closure will not apply to emergency vehicles such as fire, ambulance and police vehicles.

Vigil intensified amid calls for rituals at disputed site on Janmashtami

Prayagraj: Amid fresh reports that some locals might try to enter the disputed site at Abunagar Eidgah to perform religious rituals on Janmashtami, senior police and administrative officials of Fatehpur have imposed prohibitory orders and intensified vigil in the violence-hit area. The area saw violence on Monday when members of Hindu organisations allegedly entered the Eidgah premises and hoisted saffron flags atop a 200-year-old mausoleum on the campus, claiming that it was raised at the site of a temple. The incident, which occurred at around 10 am on Monday despite police bandobast, sparked outrage among members of the local Muslim community and led to stone-pelting between the two sides. Fatehpur police on Thursday clarified that Section 163 of BNSS (formerly Section 144) prohibitory order was currently in force in the district. All parties and the public are being informed that any kind of demonstration, procession, etc is completely prohibited at the disputed site or any other place. However, no arrest has been made so far. The police also made it clear that if any party or person makes any such call or participates in any such programme, then their act will be against the law, and strict legal action will be taken. They added that any inflammatory social media post will invite action. An appeal has been made to the masses to maintain mutual harmony and not believe in rumours. Ironically, the police have failed to take any action regarding the incident despite the fact that an FIR was lodged against 10 named individuals and 150 unknown persons for disturbing peace on Monday. Those named in the FIR included Abhishek Shukla, Dharmendra, Ashish Trivedi, Pappu Singh, Prasoon, Ritik Pal, Vinay Tiwari, Pushpraj Patel, Ajay Singh, and Devnath Dhakre. A senior police officer, preferring anonymity, told TOI, "Things are under control, and police carried out patrolling in Abunagar and adjoining areas on Thursday to maintain law and order. Cops would be deployed at static points in Abunagar and adjoining areas till Sunday. Special police teams have also been formed to maintain a strict watch on social media platforms." Mathura to celebrate plastic-free Janmashtami for first time, says DM

Mathura, Aug 14 (PTI) In a first, Mathura will celebrate a plastic-free Janmashtami this year, District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh said on Thursday. 'Devotees, shopkeepers and locals are urged not to use polythene bags or other plastic items. People have been made aware of alternatives and encouraged to adopt them to curb the plastic menace," Singh said. He noted that a similar initiative during the Mudhiya Puno fair in Govardhan this July had yielded 'highly encouraging results." Singh said that the entire Shri Krishna Janmasthan area has been cleared of encroachments and beautification work carried out to provide a better experience for devotees arriving from across the globe. Additional District Magistrate Dr Amresh Kumar said several teams have been deployed in the city to raise awareness about the environmental damage caused by plastic use. Mathura MP and Bollywood actress Hema Malini urged citizens to ensure that the effort succeeds. 'Plastic is choking the city, and on Lord Krishna's birthday, we must pledge to make our city plastic-free," she said. Security arrangements have been stepped up for the festival, Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar said. The city has been divided into sectors and zones, with CCTV cameras, drones, and more than 3,000 police, PAC and RAF personnel deployed. A QR code-based parking system has also been introduced for the convenience of devotees. 'Police are keeping a close watch on social media platforms as well," Kumar added.
