ACB arrests cooperative inspector for 2.75L bribe
Jaipur: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Thursday arrested a cooperative inspector for taking a bribe of Rs 2.75 lakh in the city on the promise of facilitating a stay order on two residential plots. In a statement, ACB said the accused, Narayan Verma, posted as inspector at the office of sub-registrar of the City Cooperative Societies at the mini secretariat building, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe money. ACB officials said Verma demanded Rs 4 lakh—Rs 2 lakh per plot—for securing a stay order on two disputed residential plots at Shrinath Enclave Second, Hargun Ki Nangal in Sanganer tehsil, developed by Harinagar Housing Cooperative Society. Officials said the accused demanded Rs 1 lakh for himself and the remaining amount for the sub-registrar for granting the stay order. "The property in question was embroiled in a dispute. The complainant said that when he approached the accused, he demanded a bribe for himself and his superior for a stay order," said a senior ACB official, adding that the role of the accused's superior is also under the scanner as the stay order can only be issued by a senior official. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Premium 1 BHK at Mahindra Citadel – Coming Soon! On Thursday, ACB teams organised a trap after confirming the demand. According to officials, Verma asked the complainant to meet at Jyoti Rao Phule Square near Swez Farm. He then took the complainant on a meandering route before stopping on the road leading to Gurjar Ki Thadi, where he accepted the remaining Rs 2.75 lakh. The team comprising inspector Gambhir Singh and other officials recovered the full bribe amount from Verma. The ACB has launched further investigations to determine whether other officials were involved in the bribery racket. "We are probing all angles, including possible complicity of others in the cooperative society matters," an official said.
