Drug peddler arrested with ganja at residential area
Thiruvananthapuram: Fort police arrested a 25-year-old man with 500g of ganja while he was trying to sell it in small packets at a residential area near Konchiravila on Thursday evening. Local residents noticed his presence in the locality for the past couple of days and alerted the police about his suspicious activities. When the police reached the spot, the accused tried to escape by jumping over a wall. However, the police team chased and arrested him. Police identified the arrested person as Murshid, 25, of ARA 11th Lane at Ambalathara. The accused was remanded after being produced before a court on charges under Section 20 (B) II A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985. Police said the accused used to buy ganja in bulk from Andhra Pradesh and brought it here for sale. "This is the first time the accused was arrested in a drug case, but he admitted to the police that he was into drug peddling for the past couple of years. The mobile phone of the accused was seized to check his call details and chat history. A detailed probe will be conducted to unfurl the other links in the drug racket," added the police.

Man held with 14g of MDMA in Kochuveli
T'puram: Fort police on Tuesday night arrested a 23-year-old man with 14g of MDMA during an inspection near Kochuveli railway station (Thiruvananthapuram North). The arrested person was identified by police as Akash, son of Ajikumar near Punnakkamugal at Thirumala. During a regular patrol near the station, police found the accused on Veli-Venpalavattom road near the railway station. Akash behaved strangely upon seeing the cops and during questioning, he could not give proper answers. The drug was found in two polythene covers inside his bag when examined. "The accused confessed that he was waiting for his customers to sell the drug. However, he was not willing to disclose the details of customers. Akash's mobile phone was seized for further probe to identify other links in the drug racket. Call details and chat history of the accused are also being examined," police said. The accused was in the business for the last three years. He used to buy the drugs from Bengaluru for sale here, added cops. The accused was remanded after being produced before a court on a charge under Section 22 (c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985.
