PMLA court takes cognisance of ED case against Lucent Drugs for illegal Tramadol exports to Pak
1 2 3 Hyderabad: The special court for PMLA cases in Hyderabad has taken cognisance of a prosecution complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate against Lucent Drugs Private Limited and its top executives for allegedly exporting large consignments of the psychotropic drug Tramadol to Pakistan via Denmark and Malaysia, in violation of Indian export regulations. On Aug 6, the court admitted the complaint after the ED's probe revealed that the company routed 13,800 kg of Tramadol, valued at ₹4.1 crore, to Pakistan through Denmark-based CHR Olesen Pharmaceuticals, and another 5,000 kg, worth ₹1.3 crore, through Malaysia-based SM Biomed. The agency has attached immovable properties worth ₹5.4 crore belonging to the company. Tramadol, often referred to as the 'ISIS drug' due to its widespread misuse by ISIS fighters and for treating war injuries, is a controlled psychotropic substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The ED's investigation began following a complaint from the Narcotics Control Bureau's Bengaluru zonal unit. While the company initially obtained a no-objection certificate from the Central Bureau of Narcotics for export to Pakistan, the approval was later withdrawn. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn 57+ Languages Easily with AI [Join] Talkpal AI Sign Up Undo To circumvent the ban, the accused allegedly used intermediaries in Denmark and Malaysia to disguise the final destination. The ED contends that the illegal exports generated ₹5.4 crore in proceeds of crime, which were channelled into Lucent Drugs' regular business accounts and projected as legitimate sales from other countries. These funds, the agency alleges, were deliberately layered to conceal their illicit origin. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Ganja-filled ball thrown into Beed jail triggers violent clash; 4, including BJP MLA's aide Khokya Bhosale, booked
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In a serious breach of prison security, an unidentified person allegedly threw a rubber ball filled with ganja into the Beed district prison on Saturday, leading to a violent altercation among four undertrial prisoners over the contraband's distribution, police said on Monday. An FIR was registered with Beed's Shivaji Nagar police station late on Sunday. Senior police officers said they would soon file an application to arrest and detain the accused. Beed superintendent of police Navneet Kanwat described the incident as "extremely serious" and said, "The investigation in this case has started. One of the points of investigation will be to ascertain the source of the marijuana (ganja). The incident came to light only because there was a violent clash among the four inmates. If there had been no clash, the incident wouldn't have come to our notice." The incident was reported on Saturday around 11.45 am when inmates in barrack 4 began fighting over the distribution of the ganja. Jail staff reached the spot and seized the ball from one prisoner. Frustrated by the intervention, the inmates reportedly threatened to kill the jail employee, causing further disturbance inside the barrack, according to the FIR filed based on a complaint by prison employee Balbhim Chichane. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Kate Middleton's Daring Outfit Took Prince William's Breath Away Crowdy Fan Undo Senior jail authorities promptly informed their superiors and district administration officials. A joint team comprising police and district administration personnel later visited the facility, conducted a spot panchnama, and initiated an investigation. Preliminary inquiries indicated that the inmates had ordered the ganja. Following the probe, the Shivaji Nagar police have booked four suspects — Sham alias Balu Pawar, Wasim Khan, Yamraj Rathod, and Satish alias Khokya Bhosale. Bhosale is an aide of BJP MLA Suresh Dhas. Assistant inspector Gajanan Kshirsagar, who is the investigation officer, said , "Bhosale, earlier arrested under the Wildlife Protection Act, got bail a couple of days back, but he has landed in fresh legal trouble." The officer added that the FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act as well as under sections 221, 352(2), and 3(5) of the BNS. This latest incident occurred within a month of another ganja seizure inside the same prison. That time, ganja had been found with an undertrial inmate lodged in barrack 7. The seized material was sent for forensic examination, and a case was registered against the inmate at Shivaji Nagar police station. New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) A 38-year-old woman was arrested in Delhi for allegedly transporting more than 12 kilogram of cannabis concealed in trolley bag from West Bengal via train, police said on Monday. According to police, she was supplying the contraband as part of an interstate drug supply network. The accused, Archana Manna, from Kolkata, was arrested at Ashram Flyover while travelling in an autorickshaw with her daughter and two grandchildren, they said. Preliminary investigation revealed that Manna, moved to Delhi in 2014 and has been working as a domestic help. Her husband died two decades ago. She was allegedly lured into drug trafficking by acquaintances in Govind Puri, who offered her Rs 10,000 for each delivery. Police said she was trained by the network in using encrypted apps and deleting call logs to avoid detection. Videos found on her phone showed her discussing the quality of ganja during purchase, they added. They said that 12.55 kilogram of ganja, packed in 12 polythene packets and concealed in a trolley bag, was seized from her possession. The contraband was confirmed to be ganja by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team at the spot, they said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said the operation followed specific intelligence received on June 16 about a woman transporting cannabis from Odisha and West Bengal to Delhi by train. Police were deployed at Kashmere Gate railway station to monitor the suspect. The accused managed to slip out of the station amid the rush but was later traced to an autorickshaw heading towards Govind Puri. She was intercepted at Ashram Flyover and the narcotics were seized after due legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act. The accused has been booked under the NDPS Act and further investigation into the supply chain, believed to operate across Odisha, West Bengal, and Delhi, is continuing.
