Police cripple two drug syndicates, seize drugs worth RM7.121mil in Gombak
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled two drug syndicates in separate raids in Gombak, following the arrest of a local man and woman, as well as a foreign man, with drug seizures amounting to RM7,121,015.20, recently. Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Gombak district police headquarters (IPD) seized 212 plastic packets, believed to contain syabu (methamphetamine), weighing 222.331kg, from a sedan which had been left at a storage facility, at 9.30pm on May 14. He said that further investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old local man, who works as a used car salesman. The man has been remanded for 12 days, until Friday (May 30). "The drugs seized in the first case are valued at RM7,114,592, and are believed to have been intended for distribution in the Klang Valley. "Action was also taken under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, with the seizure of a gold chain, worth RM11,348.86," he said, in a press conference at the Gombak IPD on Thursday (May 29). In the second case, Noor Ariffin said that police arrested a 34-year-old foreign man, believed to be a private college student, and a 47-year-old local woman, believed to be working as an insurance executive for a private company, in a car at around 6am last Tuesday (May 27). He added that the two suspects, believed to be a couple, have been remanded for seven days, until June 3. "A search of the vehicle uncovered two packets containing compressed dried leaves, believed to be cannabis, weighing 2.072kg, which is estimated to be worth RM6,423.20. "The drug seized in this case is believed to have been intended for distribution in the Gombak area. Also seized was RM500 in cash," he said. He said all three suspects have no prior criminal record, and they also tested negative for drugs. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama

Police nab three undocumented men, recover RM8k worth of syabu
LAHAD DATU: Three undocumented foreign men were arrested, and over RM8,000 worth of suspected syabu was seized during a raid at a hut in Kampung Ubi, Jalan Kenangan, yesterday. The operation was carried out by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Lahad Datu district police headquarters. "Drugs suspected to be syabu, weighing 73.30g and valued at approximately RM8,063, were confiscated," the Lahad Datu police said in a statement. Police also seized several items believed to be associated with drug distribution and abuse. Urine tests revealed that two of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, while the third tested negative. "All suspects, aged between 27 and 48, did not possess any valid identification documents," the statement added. The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted under Section 39B, the suspects face the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane. Additional penalties may apply under Section 15(1)(a) for drug use. The arrests were part of ongoing enforcement efforts under Ops Tapis, a nationwide initiative to combat drug trafficking and abuse, particularly in high-risk areas like Sabah.

Two suspected drug dealers nabbed in interior Sarawak raid
MIRI: Two suspected drug dealers were arrested in a special operation conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Marudi district police headquarters in Long Lama, a settlement in the interior of Miri, yesterday. Marudi police chief DSP Nor Aizan Mohd Jamil said that during the operation held between noon and 1pm, police also seized 60g of drugs believed to be syabu (methamphetamine), estimated to be worth RM6,600 and sufficient to supply 600 drug addicts. "Both suspects, local men aged between 32 and 47, have prior records related to drug offences. In initial screening, they also tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine," he said in a statement today. Police also confiscated a Toyota Hilux four-wheel-drive vehicle worth about RM45,000. Preliminary police investigations found that the drugs were believed to have been sourced from Miri to be distributed to manual labourers in plantation areas around Long Lama. The suspects are now remanded for seven days from May 6 to 13 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Nor Aizan urged the public to provide information related to drug trafficking by calling hotline 012-208 7222. – Bernama
