RM500,000 fags, vehicles seized in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Marine police confiscated 215,600 sticks of various brand cigarettes and two vehicles from a house in Silam, here, on Tuesday. Sabah (Region Four) Marine Police Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said a team from the Unit Gempur Marin raided the house at 5.30am. He said a local in his 20s was arrested to assist in the investigation. 'The seizures, including the vehicles, were worth RM507,590,' he said, adding the case would be investigated under the Customs Act 1967. Meanwhile, police arrested three foreigners and seized drugs believed to be syabu in two separate operations by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, here, on Tuesday. District Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the first suspect, a 35-year-old Indonesian, was detained at 1.30pm at Jalan Panji. He said police found a translucent plastic packet containing substances believed to be syabu weighing 0.27gm in the suspect's possession. The case would be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. 'On the same day, police arrested two men from the Philippines inside a hut in a plantation in Jalan Tengah Nipah and seized 5.45gm of syabu, a modified straw and aluminium foils. 'One of the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,' he said, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. Dzulbaharin said all the suspects were currently in their custody for further investigations. JB clerk loses over RM90,000 in online job scam
JOHOR BARU: A clerk has lost RM92,163 after she was duped into taking a part-time online job which promised high profits. Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the victim received a link to an advertisement via WhatsApp on July 31 and clicked on it. He said the victim was connected to an individual named "Faniza" on Telegram and was added to a "Hadiah & Feedback" WhatsApp group, which promised commissions of 10% to 15% for completing a task. ACP Raub said the victim later made 10 transactions amounting to RM92,393 to six accounts at different banks from Aug 2 to 6. "The victim only received RM230 in return and realised she was being cheated when told to make more payments," he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. ACP Raub said searches done via the Commercial Crime Investigation System (CCIS) found the victim's money was channelled into three different bank accounts. He reminded the public to be careful especially in matters involving financial transactions with unknown persons. The health ministry's food safety and quality division inspected the restaurant last Friday and found that it failed to meet food safety standards, Berita Harian reported. Advertisement The restaurant at Jalan Pusat Dagangan Sendayan 3 was also issued two compound notices. In a video that went viral on TikTok , a woman said she drank about a quarter of her drink before noticing 'something strange' at the bottom. 'I stirred the drink… and that's when I saw the frog. It looked just like an asam boi. I was speechless,' she said in the video caption. Zara's mother submits phone to police for forensic review

KOTA KINABALU: The mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir has handed her mobile phone to police for forensic analysis, according to the family's lawyer Hamid Ismail. The phone, containing voice recordings between Zara and her mother, was submitted at the Karamunsing police station on Thursday for examination in Cheras.
