KCCI in Des Moines Tops Ratings in Key Marketing Demo

Des Moines Iowa CBS affiliate KCCI said the total audience of its news produces 19% more viewers than any other local source, according to preliminary data sourced by Nielsen Live+ Same Day May 2025. The Hearst CBS affiliate finished the May 2025 ratings book by topping the ratings in Adults 25-54 from 4:30 to 7 a.m. and at 5 and 6 p.m. "Winning these key newscasts validates all the work our team does every day to serve Central Iowans with objective, fact-based journalism," said KCCI president and general manager Brian Sather. "I am grateful to everyone who relies on our news, and thankful to every one of our team members who set aside self, daily, in service to our mission." KCCI 8 News This Morning at 5 a.m. shares of Adults 25 to 54 increased 22 percent over last year. At 6 a.m. audience shares grew 25 percent. "We know that our viewers have more choices now than ever about how and where they consume news, weather and traffic information," said KCCI news director Natalie Cabieses. "It is an honor to bring accurate and compelling news stories into the homes of our viewers." Cabieses added, "We strive to be Iowa's News Leader daily, so it is especially rewarding to see our viewers choose KCCI as their number one source for information."

Natalie Cabieses Promoted to KCCI News Director

Natalie Cabieses is being promoted from assistant news director to news director at KCCI in Des Moines, Iowa. Cabieses is the fifth news director in the station's 70-year history. She takes over for Allison Smith, who left the station in December 2024. She joined the station in February 2024. "Natalie is known for being able to make strong decisions, fast and keep a calm demeanor," said president and general manager Brian Sather. "She was instrumental in developing our news and weather coverage before, during and after the Greenfield tornado. Her compassion and news judgement is a big reason KCCI is Iowa's News Leader.' "As a Latina woman I am incredibly humbled to be in this position to not only cover the news fairly and accurately, but also to empower young women who may be able to see themselves in my chair one day," Cabieses said. Before joining KCCI, she served as executive producer at WISN in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she oversaw coverage of the Kyle Rittenhouse trial. She's also worked at WFTV in Orlando and WBBH and WZVN in the Fort Myers-Naples, Florida TV market.
