Amazon expands same-day perishable grocery delivery
Amazon is now rolling out a service where its Prime members can now order their blueberries and milk at the same time as basic items like batteries and T-shirts and get them within hours. The online juggernaut said Wednesday that customers in more than 1,000 cities and towns including Raleigh, North Carolina, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Columbus, Ohio, now have access to fresh groceries with its free same-day delivery service on orders over $25 for Prime members, with plans to reach over 2,300 cities and towns by the end of the year. Amazon called the move 'one of the most significant grocery expansions' for the online retailer as it introduces thousands of perishable items into its existing logistics network. The expansion is expected to put more pressure on grocery delivery services offered by such rivals as Walmart, Kroger and Target, which all saw their shares take a hit in early trading Wednesday. Amazon's shares rose 1%. Amazon said that if an order doesn't meet the minimum, members can still choose same-day delivery for a $2.99 fee. For customers without a Prime membership, the service is available with a $12.99 fee, regardless of order size. In the past, Prime subscribers' grocery orders were fulfilled through Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods Market. Prime members pay $14.99 monthly or $139 annually. Amazon launched its Prime membership in 2005, and it has become the gold standard for subscription services with a slew of perks including unlimited streaming with Prime Video and discounts at Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh. Walmart, which launched its membership program called Walmart + in 2020, has been racing to add more benefits. It costs $12.95 per month or $98 per year. Depending on members' location and availability, Walmart members can schedule same-day delivery for their groceries, including perishables. 'We're continuously innovating to make grocery shopping simpler, faster, and more affordable for our customers, especially Prime members,' said Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, in a statement. 'By introducing fresh groceries into our Same-Day Delivery service, we're creating a quick and easy experience for customers. ' Herrington noted that customers can order milk alongside electronics; oranges, apples, and potatoes with a mystery novel; and frozen pizza at the same time as tools for their next home improvement project—and check out with one cart and have everything delivered to their doorstep within hours. The company first tested the service in Phoenix, Arizona, last year, and then added Orlando, Florida and Kansas City, Missouri, earlier this year. Amazon noted that many of its customers were first-time Amazon grocery shoppers who now return to shop twice as often with the same-day delivery service compared to those who didn't purchase food. It also noted that based on early sales, strawberries now regularly knock AirPods out of the top five best sellers of all products sold, while bananas, Honeycrisp apples, limes, and avocados round out the top ten best-selling perishable grocery items in their same-day delivery carts. Amazon said it generated over $100 billion in gross sales of groceries and household essentials last year not including sales from Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh. In June, Amazon said it was investing more than $4 billion to triple the size of its delivery network by 2026, with a focus on small towns and rural communities across the country. It also noted that it's using artificial intelligence to help it predict local customer preferences so it can stock popular items alongside items targeted for specific communities.

UFC announces new broadcast partner and it will impact how you watch the biggest fights
The UFC has finally announced its new broadcaster for 2026 and onwards, having signed with Paramount+ as its deal with ESPN comes to an end. For months, the UFC – the flagship promotion in mixed martial arts – had been expected to announce its next broadcast partner, with reports suggesting that the company would part ways with ESPN. The UFC signed with ESPN in 2018 and began a partnership in 2019, but their contract expires this year. It was thought by some that the UFC could end up on Netflix, given the streaming platform is the main global broadcaster of WWE – the professional wrestling behemoth that is essentially the UFC's sister company under ownership group TKO. Ironically, WWE just signed a broadcast deal for ESPN to show certain events going forward. However, UFC president Dana White wrote on X/Twitter on Monday (11 August): 'Breaking News, UFC has a new home in 2026 only on @paramountplus.' The American, 56, attached a statement confirming the end of the UFC's pay-per-view model as part of this new deal. The statement also said CBS, a cable network in the US, will show certain fights. The statement read: 'This historic deal with Paramount and CBS is incredible for UFC fans and our athletes. For the first time ever, fans in the US will have access to all UFC content without a Pay-Per-View model. '[This makes] it more affordable and accessible to view the greatest fights on a massive platform. This deal puts UFC amongst the biggest sports in the world. The exposure provided by Paramount and CBS networks under this new structure is a huge win for our athletes and anyone who watches and loves this sport.' Per a press release, Paramount has acquired the UFC broadcast rights in a seven-year deal with an average annual value of $1.1bn. Also per that release, 2026 is set to feature 13 numbered events (previously pay-per-view events, for example UFC 317, 318, 319) and 30 Fight Night events. TNT Sports is currently the UFC's UK broadcaster and is available through discovery+, and it is understood that Monday's announcement will not affect UK viewers.

Why Cava Stock Tumbled Today
Key Points Cava's same-store sales slowed to just 2.1% in the second quarter. The company also cut its same-store sales guidance for the year to 4%-6%. Management is still targeting at least 1,000 stores by 2032. 10 stocks we like better than Cava Group › Shares of Cava (NYSE: CAVA) were taking a dive today after the fast-casual chain posted disappointing results in its second-quarter earnings report. As of 10:35 a.m. ET, the stock is down 16.7% on the news. Cava's momentum slows The chain has delivered mostly blockbuster results since its 2023 IPO, but Cava's growth significantly slowed in the second quarter as same-store sales rose just 2.1%. The weak comparable sales growth comes at a time when much of the restaurant industry is struggling, as discretionary spending has pulled back due to fears around trade tensions. Overall revenue was up 20.3% to $278.2 million thanks to a steady flow of new restaurant openings, but that missed the consensus at $285.2 million. Average unit volume improved from $2.7 million to $2.9 million, a positive sign for the overall growth in the business, and restaurant-level profit margin was strong at 26.3%, down slightly from 26.5% in the quarter a year ago. On the bottom line, adjusted earnings per share improved from $0.14 to $0.16, which beat expectations at $0.13. CEO Brett Schulman said, "During the second quarter of 2025, we continued to grow market share and firmly establish our category-defining leadership position." What's next for Cava Looking ahead, Cava also disappointed the market by cutting its guidance for the full year. The company now sees same-store sales growth of 4%-6%, down from a previous range of 6%-8%. However, its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) guidance remained the same at $152 million-$159 million. Overall, the sell-off shouldn't be surprising due to the slowdown in sales and the guidance cut. However, the long-term outlook is still promising for Cava, as it expects to grow from around 400 restaurants currently to more than 1,000 by 2032. While the slowdown could last more than a quarter, it's not a reason for long-term investors to sell the stock. Do the experts think Cava Group is a buy right now?
