Sops for govt staff on Cabinet agenda

Hyderabad: The state Cabinet, scheduled to meet on Thursday, is expected to take some crucial decisions, including sops for the government employees, recruitment for pending vacancies in government jobs and women empowerment. It will also deliberate on the schedule for the launch of the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme aimed at transforming unemployed youth into entrepreneurs. The meeting will also discuss extensively the progress of the implementation of the flagship welfare schemes launched by the ministers recently. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has already sought a report on the implementation of the important schemes from the ministers. The progress of the works under Indiramma Indlu (housing) scheme, fine rice distribution at ration shops, implementation of the Bhu Bharati Act, distribution of solar pump sets to tribal farmers and the status of the verification of the applications received from the youth to provide financial assistance under Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme will be reviewed in the Cabinet meeting. The Chief Minister is of the view that it is the responsibility of the ministers concerned to successfully implement the flagship schemes and reports submitted by them will be helpful in speeding up the implementation process. Official sources said the Cabinet will also take an important decision on the implementation of the recommendations made by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) on the Medigadda and other barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. It will also focus on the constitution of other official committees with irrigation experts to implement the recommendations made by the dam safety authority. The development of the proposed Future City, Regional Ring Road (RRR) and new system for permits to construct buildings in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits were also included in the agenda of the Cabinet meeting. Sources said the Chief Minister would present a report on the financial challenges and seek the suggestions of his Cabinet colleagues to tide over the crisis. He would also ask the ministers to strive hard to achieve the revenue targets in their respective departments. The Cabinet Sub-Committee on resource mobilization already prepared a report on how to increase revenues by introducing a slew of reforms without putting an extra tax burden on the people in the current financial year.

Telangana cabinet meeting tomorrow; KLIS, Yuva Vikasam on agenda

HYDERABAD: The state Cabinet, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is scheduled to meet on June 5. It is expected to take up the report submitted by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), implementation of the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Scheme and issues concerning government employees, among other matters. Sources said the Cabinet is likely to approve the NDSA report and adopt its recommendations. The Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Scheme, which aims to provide bank loans with incentives for youth self-employment, is also expected to come up for discussion. Even before the scheme's rollout, the government received several complaints about ineligible applicants being considered. Though over 13 lakh applications have been received, the distribution of sanction letters — which was set to begin on June 2 — has been put on hold. In a recent meeting with ministers, the chief minister said the letters would be issued only after Cabinet deliberations. Meanwhile, the Cabinet is also likely to discuss the report submitted by the three-officer committee formed to engage with government employees on their pending issues and demands. The report was recently submitted to Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Heavy inflows in Godavari put a brake on tests at Medigadda

Hyderabad: Heavy inflows in river Godavari may delay the geo technical and other quality tests which are being carried out for the repairs of the damaged three barrages of Medigadda, Sundilla and Annaram. Following the recommendations of the NDSA (National Dam Safety Authority), the State Irrigation wing has made arrangements to conduct the tests at the barrage sites. As a result, the repair works proposed by the government will be hampered for a long time until water levels recede in the river. The Irrigation officials said that considering the NDSA report, the irrigation officials said that the Pune-based Centre for Water and Power Research (CWPRS) has been asked to make some recommendations for tests at the barrages. The research centre suggested to conduct eight tests which includes parallel seismic, geo physical study, metal gates and the status of concrete structures. It requires at least one year to complete all the tests and prepare a report on the entire structure. Officials said that the irrigation officials in consultation with the quality control wing visited the barrages but they could not move forward due to heavy inflows in Godavari under the influence of heavy rains in the monsoon season. 'It takes a lot of time to conduct the tests in view of the requirement of technical expertise and big logistical support. Identifying seepage and the estimation of impact of craters under the raft are the major tasks in the tests'. The authorities said that the seismic tests also required a lot of time. The IMD already predicted heavy rains in the current monsoon and projects under Godavari, which is already receiving good inflows. The technical teams will not conduct the tests unless the barrages are empty and dry. Water storage in the barrages will not give accurate results in the tests.

NHPC looks to start commissioning process of 3 units under Subansiri Project in Jun

New Delhi: State-owned NHPC is looking to start the process of commissioning 3 units (250 MW each) of the Subansiri Lower HE Project in June. The company is waiting for approval from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), it said in an exchange filing. "It is now anticipated that the process of commissioning of 3 units (250 MW each) of Subansiri Lower HE Project shall be taken up from June 2025, subject to receipt of NDSA," NHPC said. The remaining 5 units of 250 MW each are expected to be completed by May 2026 in a phased manner, the company added. NHPC, under the Ministry of Power, is in the process of constructing the 2,000 Mega Watt (MW) Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project. It is the largest hydroelectric project ever undertaken in India and is a run-of-river project with water storage on the Subansiri River. It is located near North Lakhimpur on the border of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The nearest railhead is Nagaon, and the nearest airport is Lilabari/Dibrugarh. The estimated annual energy generation from the project in a 90 per cent reliable year is 7,421.59 MU.
