NITK Surathkal marks Anti-Ragging Day
Surathkal: The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, observed Anti-Ragging Day on Tuesday in line with the Ministry of Education's directives, reaffirming its strict zero-tolerance stance on ragging. More than 200 students, along with faculty, staff, and officials, participated in the event, which featured pledge-taking, awareness talks, and activities aimed at creating a safe, inclusive campus. Delivering the keynote address, NITK Director Prof. B. Ravi stressed, 'Ragging is a punishable offence. Our mission is to build each other up, with senior students serving as mentors. Together, let's say no to ragging and yes to dignity.' Dean of Student Welfare Prof. Govind Raj Mandela underscored the importance of fostering acceptance for newcomers. Anti-Ragging Day observed at NITK
Mangaluru: In adherence to the directives of the ministry of education, the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, observed Anti-Ragging Day on Tuesday. The event was presided over by Govindaj Mandela, dean of student welfare. The programme included pledge-taking, awareness talks, and activities focused on promoting a safe and inclusive campus environment. NITK director Prof B Ravi said that NITK has a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging, a punishable offence. Our mission is to build each other up, with senior students serving as mentors to guide newcomers. We urge students to seek help, stand up, and know that you are not alone, he said. Mandela said that the essence of Anti-Ragging Day is to support one another and ensure every student feels safe and welcomed on our campus. It's about cultivating an internal attitude of acceptance, particularly for newcomers, so they can thrive in our NITK family, he added. The institution maintains a structured anti-ragging framework, including an independent Anti-Ragging Cell comprising faculty, staff, students, and local police. A dedicated anti-ragging squad for campus vigilance; mandatory affidavits from students and parents as per UGC and AICTE guidelines, and awareness posters displayed across departments, hostels, and common areas. NITK Surathkal celebrates 66th Foundation Day
Mangaluru: National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, celebrated its 66th Foundation Day on Wednesday. On the occasion, officials, students, and others paid homage to its founding father, Ullal Srinivasa Mallya. The institution director, Prof B Ravi, hoisted the institute flag and garlanded the founder's statue at the entrance gate of the campus. The gathering reminisced about the institute's glorious history and celebrated its achievements over the past six decades. NITK staff children who achieved academic excellence in grade 10 and grade 12 were awarded prizes during the event. Two merit scholarships instituted by the 1981 batch alumni were also conferred. Two staff members who completed 25 years of service to NITK were felicitated. Air Marshal BU Chengappa, a distinguished alumnus of NITK (1969 batch), was the chief guest. He inaugurated the showcase of an advanced turboshaft engine provided by the Indian Air Force. This is a part of the NITK Academy for Defence Adventure and Leadership (NADAL), aimed at fostering future thought leaders. He, along with director Ravi, also unveiled an RFID-based smart library system for book lending and return. Reminiscing about his enduring connection with the Institute, Air Marshal Chengappa said, "Every time I return to my alma mater, I feel a renewed sense of 'urja'—inspiration and pride. This institute laid the foundation for our lives, and it is our responsibility to give back." Similar feelings were expressed by many other alumni present at the occasion. It included Niranjana Mahaballappa, global president of NITK Alumni Association, and past and present presidents of Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, and Lucknow chapters.
