Anti-Ragging Day observed at NITK
The programme included pledge-taking, awareness talks, and activities focused on promoting a safe and inclusive campus environment.
NITK director Prof B Ravi said that NITK has a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging, a punishable offence. Our mission is to build each other up, with senior students serving as mentors to guide newcomers. We urge students to seek help, stand up, and know that you are not alone, he said.
Mandela said that the essence of Anti-Ragging Day is to support one another and ensure every student feels safe and welcomed on our campus. It's about cultivating an internal attitude of acceptance, particularly for newcomers, so they can thrive in our NITK family, he added.
The institution maintains a structured anti-ragging framework, including an independent Anti-Ragging Cell comprising faculty, staff, students, and local police. A dedicated anti-ragging squad for campus vigilance; mandatory affidavits from students and parents as per UGC and AICTE guidelines, and awareness posters displayed across departments, hostels, and common areas.

'Saman is also charged under Article 2.1.3, which reads as 'Offering a Reward to another Participant in exchange for that player engaging in Corrupt Conduct under the Code,' and Article 2.1.4, which talks about, 'Directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any Participant to breach Code Article 2.1,' said the ICC. The development comes after Saman, along Pune Devils franchise co-owners Krishan Kumar Chaudhary and Parag Sanghvi, Bangladesh allrounder Nasir Hossain domestic player Rizwan Javed, batting coach Ashar Zaidi, assistant coach Sunny Dhillon, and team manager Shadab Ahamed were charged by the ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit over alleged corrupt activities in the tournament. In April this year, Hossain resumed playing competitive cricket in Bangladesh after serving a two-year ban from all forms of cricket due to being found guilty of breaching the anti-corruption code. ICC had said that time that from Hossain's two-year ban, six months were suspended.

Former Sri Lankan domestic cricketer Saliya Saman has been banned from all cricket for five years following an ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal's verdict that found him guilty of violating the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code. Saman was one of eight individuals charged in September 2023 for breaches of the Code. The ban is retroactive from 13 September 2023, the date Saman was provisionally suspended. Consequently, he has already served two years of his sentence. The 39-year-old cricketer played 101 first-class matches and 77 List A games. The charges stem from the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League and involved attempts to corrupt matches in the tournament, which were thwarted by the ICC and the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO) for the ECB's Code. Who Is Saliya Saman? Saliya Saman represented teams like Basnahira North, Galle Cricket Club, Kandurata, Lankan Cricket Club, Ragama Cricket Club, Sri Lanka Under-17 and Under-19 teams. Saliya Saman played 101 first-class matches, amassing 3,662 runs at an average of 27.95, including 2 centuries and 22 fifties, with a highest score of 129. In 77 List A games, he scored 898 runs at an average of 18.32, with 1 fifty and a top score of 65. In T20s, he made 673 runs from 47 matches at an average of 24.92 and a strike rate of 129.92, featuring 2 fifties and a best score of 78 not out. Across all formats, he contributed with 27 catches in first-class cricket, 11 in List A, and 14 in T20s. In 101 first-class matches, he bowled 11,303 deliveries, taking 231 wickets at an average of 25.92, with his best innings figures being 8 for 53. He achieved seven five-wicket hauls, one ten-wicket match haul, and maintained an economy rate of 3.17. CM Sukhu launches Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme, forms Nasha Mukti Board, and announces Rs 3,000 crore disaster relief plan
CHANDIGARH: On the 79th Independence Day, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a series of major initiatives, including the launch of the Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme, the formation of the Nasha Mukti Roktham and Punarvas Board, and a ₹3,000 crore disaster mitigation and livelihood project. Addressing the state-level function at Sarkaghat in Mandi district after unfurling the national flag, the Chief Minister expressed deep concern over the growing problem of chitta (heroin) addiction among youth. 'Our government is committed to protecting the younger generation from the scourge of drugs,' he said. He noted that under the PIT NDPS Act, property worth over ₹42 crore had been seized from drug mafias, and chitta testing has been made mandatory in police recruitment. Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme Sukhu announced the launch of the Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme, under which trained volunteers will act as a link between the public and police. These youth volunteers will aid in spreading awareness, gathering intelligence, and providing timely, confidential information to the authorities. 'Incentives will be provided for these volunteers,' he said, adding that the scheme aims to create a grassroots-level response to drug trafficking. Nasha Mukti Board for Prevention and Rehabilitation The Chief Minister also announced the formation of the Nasha Mukti Roktham and Punarvas Board. This board will include representatives from departments such as Home, Health, Education, Social Justice, Youth Services, Panchayati Raj, and Prisons, along with NGOs and social scientists. The board's goal is twofold: to prevent substance abuse and to rehabilitate and reintegrate addicted youth into society. An action plan for de-addiction and rehabilitation will be jointly prepared by NITI Aayog, AIIMS, PGI, and the State Health Department. To strengthen the fight at the local level, anti-drug committees will be established in villages and panchayats. These will include the panchayat secretary, ASHA worker, Anganwadi worker, and a designated police constable. The committees will receive and share information, and police officers will be held accountable for regular meetings and monthly reporting.
