Fresh off rout, Blue Jays vie for series win vs. Rockies
(Photo credit: Isaiah J. Downing-Imagn Images) The Toronto Blue Jays are in first place in the American League East due in large part to their dominant play at Rogers Centre. That said, the Blue Jays made themselves at home in Denver on Monday night with a 15-1 romp over the Colorado Rockies in the opener of a three-game series. Toronto will have a chance to clinch the series on Tuesday night when it sends Jose Berrios (7-4, 3.84 ERA) to the mound against Colorado's Anthony Molina (0-0, 7.27) in a battle of right-handers. Molina allowed one run on three hits in an inning in relief last season in his lone career appearance against the Blue Jays. Berrios has faced the Rockies twice in his career, winning both starts over 14 2/3 shutout innings. Tuesday will be his first time pitching in Colorado, and he can build off Eric Lauer's start in Monday's victory. Lauer was 0-6 with a 12.73 ERA in seven starts in Denver before allowing just one run over six innings on Monday night. Beating the Rockies in the opener was a positive sign for the Blue Jays, who had lost four of their last five games on the road and are 28-29 away from home. (They are 38-19 at home.) Monday's victory also gave the Blue Jays just their third win in the last nine games overall and comes after they dropped two of three games against Kansas City. 'This group is so good at turning the page to the next day,' Toronto manager John Schneider said after Sunday's 7-4 loss in 10 innings to the Royals. 'That's, I think, one of the many reasons why we are where we are.' Colorado won its third straight home series by taking two of three games from Pittsburgh but needs at least one victory against Toronto to avoid a losing record on the homestand. The Rockies also need to get off to better starts; they've trailed by at least four runs in each of the last four games. 'We've been down early, especially in the first inning,' interim manager Warren Schaeffer said. 'That's not a good recipe for longevity in a season. We need better performances out of our starters.' One of the sparks for the recent surge has been 23-year-old rookie Warming Bernabel, who made his major league debut and has been hitting ever since. He has hit safely in eight of the nine games he has played in and started his career with a seven-game hitting streak. His hot start earned him National League Player of the Week honors after he batted .462 with two home runs and seven RBIs. Bernabel has become the everyday first baseman after Michael Toglia struggled and was optioned to Triple-A for a second time. 'It's a very good thing, competition -- it's a good thing when you have a guy like Bernabel that came up here and basically earned a spot,' Schaeffer said. 'That's what you want, especially in a team in our situation. You want guys to force their hand and earn a spot. Then guys that lose their spot, they need to go to work and get better so they can come back and get their spot back.'

Historic Pete Alonso News Emerges Before Nationals-Mets Game
Historic Pete Alonso News Emerges Before Nationals-Mets Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Mets swept the Colorado Rockies in a three-game series in Denver, most recently delivering a 13-5 win on Sunday. The offense erupted behind Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil, each crushing two home runs and tallying three hits—key to their dominant performances. With that sweep, the Mets hope to carry their momentum into Tuesday night's game against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field. Advertisement Pete Alonso has been a standout force this season, and his performance in Colorado was a prime example. The Mets first baseman delivered two home runs in the finale—bringing his season total to 17—and now holds the franchise record for multi-homer games with 23 in his career, while ranking second on the Mets' all-time home run list. Between June 2-8, he hit .400 (12‑for‑30) with a .486 on-base percentage, slugging five homers and driving in 15 runs—leading the majors in those categories during the stretch. On Tuesday, more historic Alonso news emerged. In his eight games this month, Alonso has posted 18 RBIs, six home runs and two hit by pitches. Only two other players in the live-ball era—Jeff Bagwell (August 2000) and Reggie Jackson (June 1969)—have matched that level of production over any eight-game span. Alonso's full-season numbers continue to reflect his dominance: he ranks among the NL leaders in home runs and RBIs, and has moved into second place on the Mets' all-time home run list, trailing only Darryl Strawberry. His current form has also sparked talk of him as a contender for NL MVP. Advertisement The Mets, currently with a National League-best 42-win record, will look to continue their hot streak as they return to action at home. Mets React to Major Pete Alonso News on Monday
Mets React to Major Pete Alonso News on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso is on a heater this season. The 30-year-old is slashing .301/.396/.594 with 17 homers and a MLB-high 61 RBI through 66 games. Meanwhile, his .990 OPS also ranks fifth. Advertisement Alonso leads New York in batting average, homers, RBI, OBP, slugging, hits (75), total bases (148), doubles (20), and WAR (2.9). However, the four-time All-Star also leads with 62 strikeouts. Still, there's no shame in striking out when a player tops his team in almost every major category. If Alonso isn't leading in any stat, he's among the top contributors. For example, he's second in walks (33) and third in runs scored (41). The former Rookie of the Year was named NL Player of the Week on Monday, via the Mets' social media. New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (12) and first baseman Pete Alonso (20)© Isaiah J. Downing-Imagn Images "Congrats to Pete Alonso on being named the National League Player of the Week!" the team announced with polar bear and fire emojis. Alonso, of course, is nicknamed "Polar Bear." Advertisement The first baseman hit .400 with five homers, 15 RBI, and a 1.452 OPS over the past week. Alonso went 3-for-6 with two homers and 4 RBI in New York's 13-5 win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. The 6-foot-3-inch, 245-pounder is now on a six-game hit streak and has hits in 14 of his last 15 contests. Next up for the Mets is a six-game homestand vs. the Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays, respectively. After that, they'll hit the road to play the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies before returning home to face the Braves again. Mets' Pete Alonso named National League Player of the Week following prolific power display
What a week for Pete Alonso. Not only did the Mets' slugger capture sole possession of second place on the franchise's all-time home run list, but he's now earned National League Player of the Week honors for his efforts. Advertisement Alonso was on a tear last week, slashing .400/.486/.967 with five home runs, 15 RBI, and nine runs scored, leading the Mets to a 5-2 record. After a down year in 2024 by his own standards, Alonso has bounced back in a huge way in 2025, slashing .301/.396/.594 with 17 home runs, 61 RBI (leads the National League), and 20 doubles (tied for first in the National League). In Sunday's win over the Colorado Rockies, Alonso slammed career home runs No. 242 and 243, moving past David Wright for second on the Mets' all-time list. Alonso is now just nine home runs behind Darryl Strawberry for the franchise's all-time mark.

Pete Alonso wins NL Player of the Week, Jac Caglianone debuts in latest MLB Gators update
Pete Alonso wins NL Player of the Week, Jac Caglianone debuts in latest MLB Gators update June baseball is heating up, and so are several former Florida Gators making noise in the big leagues. The storylines this week range from an All-Star slugger catching fire to a top prospect breaking into the majors. Pete Alonso continues to lead the charge for the New York Mets, taking home National League Player of the Week honors, while rookie Jac Caglianone made his MLB debut with the Kansas City Royals. Across the league, Wyatt Langford is in a slump, Harrison Bader is struggling to find his rhythm and Jonathan India is quietly putting together a solid stretch. On the mound, Brady Singer remains a steady presence for the Cincinnati Reds. Here's how the Gators performed this past week. Pete Alonso: First Baseman, New York Mets Last 7 Games: .400 AVG | .486 OBP | .967 SLG | 12 H | 5 HR | 15 RBI | 3 BB | 7 SO 2025 Season: .301 AVG | .396 OBP | .990 OPS | 17 HR | 61 RBI | 75 H Alonso stayed red-hot at the plate, launching five home runs and driving in 15 runs over his last seven games. The former Gators slugger hit .400 during that stretch and now owns a .990 OPS on the year. He's pacing the Mets offense and was just awarded the National League Player of the Week. He's also shown improved patience at the plate, drawing three walks while only striking out seven times. With the Mets needing consistent run production, Alonso is reestablishing himself as one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball. Jac Caglianone: First Baseman/Outfielder, Kansas City Royals Last 7 Games: .240 AVG | .240 OBP | .320 SLG | 6 H | 0 HR | 1 RBI | 0 BB | 4 SO 2025 Season: .240 AVG | .240 OBP | .560 OPS | 6 H | 1 RBI Caglianone made his big league debut on June 3 and collected his first career hit in his second game against the St. Louis Cardinals which was a double. He's started his MLB journey with six hits in 25 at-bats, showing flashes of his offensive potential that made him a first-round pick. In Caglianone's last game, he showed off his fantastic bat-to-ball skills, going 4-for-4 at the plate including a double against the Chicago White Sox. While the power hasn't surfaced yet, his ability to barrel the ball has Royals fans optimistic. Wyatt Langford: Outfielder, Texas Rangers Last 7 Games: .143 AVG | .194 OBP | .179 SLG | 4 H | 0 HR | 3 RBI | 2 BB | 11 SO 2025 Season: .227 AVG | .306 OBP | .731 OPS | 11 HR | 26 RBI | 47 H Langford has hit a rough patch in June, managing just four hits over his last 28 at-bats. He struck out 11 times in that span, and his power has cooled off. Still, with 11 homers on the season, the Rangers continue to count on his upside. Texas remains patient, hoping Langford's approach at the plate improves with more reps. Despite the slump, he's still contributing with timely RBIs and remains a regular in the Rangers lineup. Harrison Bader: Outfielder, Minnesota Twins Last 7 Games: .118 AVG | .250 OBP | .353 SLG | 2 H | 1 HR | 2 RBI | 3 BB | 8 SO 2025 Season: .255 AVG | .346 OBP | .766 OPS | 6 HR | 24 RBI | 6 SB Bader is in a mini-slump with just two hits in his last 17 at-bats, but he did manage to go deep once and drew a few walks. Despite the rough stretch, his overall numbers remain strong as he continues to be a defensive asset in Minnesota's outfield. Even during the cold spell, Bader's ability to impact games with his glove and speed helps the Twins. His recent walk rate also suggests he's seeing the ball well, even if the hits aren't falling. Jonathan India: Infielder, Kansas City Royals Last 7 Games: .300 AVG | .313 OBP | .433 SLG | 9 H | 1 HR | 4 RBI | 1 BB | 3 SO 2025 Season: .248 AVG | .331 OBP | .654 OPS | 2 HR | 17 RBI | 56 H India has quietly been one of the Royals' more consistent bats lately. He hit .300 over the past week, adding a home run and four RBI to his season total. His OBP remains solid as he continues to get on base and limit strikeouts. His contact rate and plate discipline have stood out, helping to stabilize Kansas City's middle infield. India's versatility in the field has also provided the Royals with options as the team juggles its infield depth. Brady Singer: Starting Pitcher, Cincinnati Reds Last 2 Starts: 0-0 | 10.0 IP | 9 H | 5 ER | 4 BB | 6 SO 2025 Season: 6-4 | 4.59 ERA | 68.2 IP | 56 SO | 1.35 WHIP Singer made two starts this past week, tossing five innings each against the Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers. He allowed a combined five earned runs on nine hits while striking out six. Despite keeping the Reds competitive, he didn't factor into the decision in either outing. While the results weren't dominant, Singer kept his team in both games and avoided big innings. His command remains a work in progress, but his ability to pitch deep into games makes him a steady middle-of-the-rotation arm.
