One team still trying to find its rhythm is the Atlanta Braves. Advertisement After dropping their second straight game on Tuesday, Atlanta slipped to fourth place in the National League East. The Braves are now 27-32, just four games ahead of last-place Miami. Still, amid a slow start, one young player continues to shine, catcher Drake Baldwin. On Tuesday afternoon, MLB announced that Baldwin had been named National League Rookie of the Month. The Atlanta Braves' social media account was quick to celebrate the news. "Your National League Rookie of the Month: Drake Baldwin!" they posted on X. Fans also congratulated Baldwin. "Drake Baldwin, future Braves hall of famer.." posted here Advertisement "RAKE Baldwin Get it right." said this fan Another fan said this: "Should be in the lineup as close to every day as possible." A fan has a message about Baldwin: "The legend continues to grow." "Braves got a stud on their hands! Congrats Drake." said here. Another excited fan: "Well deserved and earned!" Atlanta Braves catcher Drake Baldwin (30).Brett Davis-Imagn Images Baldwin marked the moment with a solo home run, his sixth of the season, during an 8-3 loss to Arizona. The blast came in the fourth inning, which turned out to be Atlanta's only scoring frame. Baldwin, 24, made his MLB debut on March 27. A Missouri State product, he was selected 96th overall by the Braves in the 2022 MLB Draft. Advertisement Through 36 games in 2025, Baldwin is slashing .321 with 34 hits, 15 RBIs, and those six home runs. He's quickly become one of the brightest spots in an otherwise inconsistent Braves lineup. Atlanta will host the Diamondbacks on Wednesday and wrap up the series on Thursday before hitting the road to face the San Francisco Giants over the weekend. Who is Luisangel Acuña? Mets infielder dishes on food, family and brother Ronald

LOS ANGELES - Who is Luisangel Acuna? He's a 23-year-old New York Mets infielder from Venezuela, April's National League Rookie of the Month and the younger brother of Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. The younger Acuña was one of the Texas Rangers' top prospects when the Mets acquired him in exchange for Max Scherzer in July 2023. The speedy, slick-fielding middle infielder made his Major League debut last September and has been with the Mets since Opening Day this year. Before the Acuña brothers get set to face each other for the first time later this month (Luisangel traveled to Atlanta with the Mets late last year, but Ronald was still recovering from his torn ACL at the time), we caught up with Luisangel during the Mets' trip to Los Angeles this week to get to know him better. (Note: Questions and answers were through an interpreter and may be edited for clarity or brevity.) If you were to ask your family and friends to describe you as a person, what would they say? They would say I'm a happy guy, that I'm the type of person who will fight and do whatever to achieve their dreams. And that I'm a humble person, that's what they would say. What do you like to do when you're not at the field? I like to be with family. I like to go out to the rivers where I'm from, because we're kind of on the coast of Venezuela, so I like to go to the rivers with my family and spend time there. What do you like to do there? Sometimes we'll go there and have, like, a barbecue, grilling there and just hanging out. What's your go-to meal when you're back home? Whenever I go to Venezuela, I have to have fish. How does the fish compare here? Here, in the states, I just eat salmon. Are you a cook yourself? No, no. Who's the best cook in your family? I think my grandmother's the best one. My mom's a close second, but I think my grandmother's the best one. How much do you miss that home cooking? I don't miss it too much just because in New York there are a lot of Latin restaurants I can go to, and I can order arepas or whatever I want, so I can get my fix that way. You won the NL Rookie of the Month Award in April. What did that mean to you or show you? It felt good. I didn't know I had won it until they told me when I got here. My brother called me, congratulated me, but it was definitely an honor to be able to win an award like that. You mentioned chatting with your brother. How much have you leaned on Ronald going through the ups and downs of a season? Yeah, whenever we're in Venezuela, we train a lot together. The thing he always tells me is whenever I go out to play, be consistent, have the same type of discipline and work hard. How competitive were you guys growing up? Yeah, I would say we're competitive, but it's like a fun competition. It's one of those where he's just challenging me to get better. For instance, whoever has more hits this month, the one who loses pays for a dinner or something like that. But it's really just innocent competition. I heard you liked basketball growing up. Who's the better basketball player? My brother's better than me. He's taller than I am. Do you have the edge anywhere? Is there an activity where you're like, 'I'm better than him' in this? I'm faster than him. Last September, Ronald was injured when you went to Atlanta. Now, you're set to face him later this month. How much have you guys thought about that trip? Even before he came back from his injury this year, he had been telling me, 'Hey, the Mets are going to come in June.' So, I know he's been really excited about that potential opportunity. Sign up Now PHOENIX — Luisangel Acuña was hardly a sure thing for the major league roster this season even late into spring training, but through roughly 20 percent of the team's schedule he has been among the most important Mets players. Already a National League Rookie of the Month winner this season, the energetic infielder entered Monday with a .298/.355/.369 slash line and eight stolen bases. Advertisement Over his past 21 games he was batting .343 with an .810 OPS and seven stolen bases. Numbers of that magnitude have made it difficult for manager Carlos Mendoza to remove Acuña from the lineup, even with Jeff McNeil's return from the injured list over the past 10 days.

Mets React to Major Luisangel Acuna News

It has been quite the start for manager Carlos Mendoza and the New York Mets to open up the 2025 season. After making a massive splash in free agency by signing Juan Soto and bringing slugger Pete Alonso back, the Mets have rolled to 22 wins in their first 33 games. The Mets are sitting atop the National League East, and a lot of the credit goes to their offense. Advertisement Their approach at the plate has been all about putting the ball in play. Heading into Saturday's action, New York had struck out just 247 times — the sixth fewest in Major League Baseball. One of the driving forces behind that success has been second baseman Luisangel Acuna. On Friday, the team got some big news about their rising star: Acuna was named the National League Rookie of the Month for April. The youngster from Venezuela has been red-hot to start the season, posting a .289 batting average through his first 28 games. Acuna has six doubles, seven stolen bases and 13 runs scored. Mets second baseman Luisangel Acuna celebrates with Francisco Carchietta-Imagn Images Acuna came over from the Texas Rangers' minor league system in July 2023 as part of the Max Scherzer trade. He made his MLB debut with the Mets in September 2024, appearing in 14 games and hitting .308 with three home runs. He also saw time in the postseason, playing in nine games and logging three at-bats. Advertisement While Acuna leads the Rookie of the Year conversation early, he's got some competition in the National League. A few other names to watch include Los Angeles Dodgers right-handers Ben Casparius and Roki Sasaki, Milwaukee Brewers starter Chad Patrick and Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews.
