Is working with Nawazuddin Siddiqui a ‘big problem' for Costao director Sejal Shah? ‘He is such a…'
Director Sejal Shah shared that from the very beginning, she believed only an actor of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's caliber could do justice to the intricate character of former customs officer Costao Fernandes in her debut film Costao. In a recent conversation, the filmmaker also opened up about one of the biggest problem she faced while working with Nawazuddin on the project and said, "He is such a great actor and he spoils you so much that you want to keep working with him all the time." In the ZEE5 original Costao, Nawazuddin Siddiqui portrays a brave customs officer, Costao Fernandes, who challenges gold smugglers and systemic corruption while dealing with personal struggles. Director Sejal Shah reportedly shared that she had always envisioned Nawazuddin in the lead role, believing he was the only actor capable of portraying such a layered character. Having already collaborated with him on Serious Men, she approached him early on, and once the script was finalized, they managed to align schedules to begin filming. In a recent interview with PTI, filmmaker Sejal Shah expressed deep admiration for Nawazuddin Siddiqui, referring to him as her "go-to actor" and praising his dedication to the craft. She reportedly said that working with Nawazuddin can be both a blessing and a challenge, not because of any difficulty, but because he sets such a high standard that one is left wanting to collaborate with him repeatedly. Shah noted that Siddiqui not only fully immerses himself in a role but also brings the script to life in ways that exceed expectations. She added that his willingness to completely surrender to the director's vision, despite his vast experience, is a rare and admirable quality. In her interview, director Shah reportedly shared that as a first-time filmmaker, working with Nawazuddin Siddiqui was both reassuring and collaborative. She mentioned that there were several moments during the shoot when they would discuss scenes in depth, and Nawazuddin, while offering his insights, would ultimately remind her that the final decision was hers. She praised his professionalism and deep commitment to his craft. Shah also revealed that securing the real-life inspiration for the film, Costao Fernandes, for the biopic took nearly a year. According to her, convincing him wasn't easy, as he had been approached by many since 1990. She described Fernandes as an incredibly honest individual who insisted on portraying the truth, even the difficult parts. He reportedly never asked the team to sugarcoat the portrayal of his family dynamics or avoid the fallout that followed a critical incident in his life.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui Says Untrained Actors Are 'Made To Act ' In Bollywood: 'Happens Only Here'
Last Updated: Nawazuddin Siddiqui says that his true friends are from his struggling days, not the film industry. Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is not one to mince words, and in his latest conversation with SCREEN for its Creators X Creators segment, the critically acclaimed performer opened up about the undercurrents of the Hindi film industry — from superficial friendships to the sidelining of truly talented actors. As he turned 50, Nawazuddin reflected on his long journey in cinema, revealing that his real friends are not from the industry, but from the days when he was still struggling to find a foothold in films. 'With time, it's one person today and there will be someone else tomorrow. It's on the basis of need or benefits. The friendships that I also have in life are from old times, not from here," he added. Revealing that there are no genuine relationships in the industry, the actor said, 'That happens because there is an insecurity in every actor here, hence there's no strong friendship or loyalty towards each other. The industry is not strong and united in that way. There is a club that stays separate, they aren't together." Nawazuddin, known for his powerful performances, also spoke about how untrained and inexperienced actors are often given lead roles in Bollywood. He feels this hurts the quality of acting in films. 'An actor who isn't that reliable… they are made to act somehow, this happens only in our industry. Other industries only need professional and trained actors, they don't allow them to come in otherwise," he said. Nawazuddin Siddiqui was recently seen in Costao, a crime drama based on the real-life story of Costao Fernandes, a Goa customs officer from the 1990s who gave up everything to stop a major gold smuggling racket. Up next, Nawazuddin is reportedly busy shooting for the sequel to Raat Akeli Hai in Lucknow. He will return as Inspector Jatil Yadav in this much-awaited follow-up to the hit thriller. Nawazuddin Siddiqui backs stars dancing at weddings, says actors are no different from jesters
Agencies The 'Sacred Games' star recently supported actors who danced at weddings for pay. Renowned actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently offered a refreshingly frank perspective on the way actors are viewed by society, especially in the context of performing at private events. In an interview on the All About Eve YouTube channel, the Sacred Games star made it clear that he holds no issue with actors dancing at weddings or exclusive parties in exchange for large payments. In fact, he openly admitted that he would gladly accept such an offer if it came his way. When the interviewer asked if he would be comfortable dancing at a wedding for a fee, Nawaz responded with complete sincerity: 'Absolutely, why wouldn't I? What's the big deal? It's a part of what we do for a living. People often criticize actors for dancing at weddings, but I don't see the harm. At the end of the day, we are performers — entertainers. Historically, entertainers or 'bhands' were looked down upon. They weren't accepted in mainstream social circles. In those days, they were seen as immoral or lacking principles, as bad influences. Villages would make them stay outside in tents. They were only allowed in to perform and then immediately sent away.' He then reflected on how the entertainment industry has transformed over time. Nawazuddin acknowledged that today's actors wear designer clothes and earn much more than earlier generations of performers. Still, despite the newfound glamor and financial success, he pointed out that the essence of the profession remains the same. He admitted that actors no longer like being called 'bh**nds,' but that term once defined their place in society, even though the work itself hasn't changed all that after the interview clip was posted on Reddit, it sparked a wave of online reactions. Social media users quickly joined the conversation, expressing a range of opinions. One person wrote, 'They view themselves as entertainers, and that's perfectly valid. I don't get why people make such a fuss about it — to each their own.' Another added, 'He makes a fair point. People in the past had a very limited and judgmental view of things.' One commenter, however, playfully questioned his reach, saying, 'No shade to Nawaz, bro, but I doubt he'd actually be invited to perform at elite weddings, let alone get paid that kind of money. So no, you're not a 'bh**nd' and probably won't become one either, lol.'On the professional front, Nawazuddin was last seen in Costao, a biographical crime thriller. He portrayed Coatao Fernandes, a brave customs officer from Goa who risked his life to bust a gold smuggling racket. Directed by Sejal Shah, the film also stars Priya Bapat, Kishore, and Hussain Dalal, and is currently available for streaming on ZEE5.
