Nawazuddin Siddiqui Offers A Glimpse Inside ‘Nawab': His Nostalgic, Self-Designed Dream Home In Mumbai

Nawazuddin Siddiqui's self-designed bungalow 'Nawab' beautifully blends vintage charm with personal memories from his childhood in Budhana. From sharing cramped quarters with multiple roommates in Mumbai's Goregaon during his struggling years to now residing in a palatial bungalow, Nawazuddin Siddiqui's journey has come full circle. Five years ago, the acclaimed actor fulfilled a long-held dream by building his own three-storey mansion in Versova's Yari Road, which he lovingly named 'Nawab' after his late father, Nawabuddin Siddiqui. The luxurious home is more than just bricks and mortar—it's a heartfelt tribute to his childhood home in Budhana, Uttar Pradesh. In a recent video tour shared on Nayandeep Rakshit's YouTube channel, Nawazuddin welcomed viewers into his personal sanctuary, a space that reflects both his artistic soul and deep-rooted nostalgia. Muted Tones, Theatre Posters, and a Splash of Red Kicking off the tour in the living room, the space was a study in restraint, dominated by earthy tones like cream, beige, and warm browns. 'I always envisioned an old-world charm—something that reminded me of colonial-era homes," Nawazuddin said when asked about his design aesthetic. 'People gift me art, but I rarely hang them unless they match the room's palette. I prefer buying pieces that blend with the tone of the house." A bold pop of colour stood out in the form of a vivid red pool table. 'I play occasionally, but it's mostly for my guests," he chuckled. Adorning the walls were posters of iconic theatrical characters—Hamlet, Othello, Romeo—roles Nawazuddin once embodied during his time at the National School of Drama. 'These remind me of my roots. I wanted the house to echo those NSD days. That hunger to learn, to stay grounded. You won't find a single movie poster here," he revealed. Three Floors of Personal Passions The house spans three levels, each tailored to different aspects of Nawazuddin's personal and professional life. The ground floor features a spacious hall and a private mini-theatre with plush brown couches and a large screen. The room opens into a balcony that overlooks a serene green patch. 'I love colourful flowers. That corner was inspired by the Romeo and Juliet balcony. I wanted it to feel like a piece of theatre," he said with a smile. Upstairs, his personal makeup room is designed like a traditional green room—wood-panelled flooring and walls, and a large mirror framed by vanity lights. 'Whenever I have a shoot, I get ready here. It keeps me in the zone," he shared. He also revealed a compact home gym tucked away inside the house. 'I'm not exactly a fitness buff, but I built it anyway," he laughed. In a touching moment, Nawazuddin pointed out a framed certificate—his daughter's acting distinction from a London workshop. 'She's obsessed with acting," he said proudly. Where Memory Meets Mastery True to its inspiration, the bungalow is dotted with vintage architectural features—arched doorways, carved wooden pillars, railings, and patterned flooring that harken back to his village home. The final part of the tour featured a grand staircase, the walls lined with his numerous awards and accolades—a quiet nod to his career journey. However, Nawazuddin was quick to note, 'I don't work for trophies. But I am thankful to have received them." In every detail, from layout to lighting, 'Nawab' is not just a home—it's a narrative. A space that reflects Nawazuddin Siddiqui's artistry, humility, and enduring connection to his roots. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who used to share a room with 4-5 people in Mumbai's Goregaon during his initial phase of career, built his dream bungalow five years ago. The plush mansion, named 'Nawab' after his late father Nawabuddin Siddiqui, is located at Yari Road, Versova. It is a recreation of his childhood home back in his village Budhana, Uttar Pradesh. In a recent video, the actor gave a house tour of his three-storey luxury bungalow, which he designed himself. He then started the tour with the living area that mostly had walls and furniture with muted colours like beige, white, and brown. When asked about the vibe he had in mind, he said, 'This was always the plan to keep it vintage. When we used to see houses in the olden times, during the colonial period, I wanted something like that. Whenever someone gifts a painting, I am not able to hang it on the wall because it doesn't match the colour family. Hence, I buy paintings according to the colour theme.' The only colourful element in the space was his bright red pool table. 'When there's free time, I play. More than me, my guests play here,' the actor added. 'All these posters are from plays, mostly Shakespeare (Macbeth, Merchant Of Venice, Hamlet). Meri chaahat thi ki main jab ghar mein ghusu toh NSD theatre ke time wala time yaad rahe. I should feel I am new, still learning. There aren't any film posters in my house,' he shared. The 51-year-old said that his mansion has three floors – the first floor has a hall and theatre, the second floor has his makeup room, and on the third floor, there are some more rooms. The personal theatre room had beautiful brown sofas with a huge screen to watch films. The room also opened to a balcony, with lush greenery around. 'I have a hobby of flowers of different colours. The idea behind it was to have flowers and plants around,' he said. He also revealed that the balcony was designed keeping Romeo and Juliet's balcony in mind as an inspiration. Nawazuddin Siddiqui also has his own makeup room, with wooden detailing in the floor, walls, and furniture. It looks like a green room, with bright lights all around the big mirror. Whenever he has to go for a shoot or any professional commitment, he ensures to get ready there. In the house-walk, he also flaunted his small home gym. He admitted, 'Main zyada gym waala hu nahi par bana diya maine bas yeh.' The hall area also had his daughter's London acting workshop distinction hanging on one of the walls. 'Paagal hai vo acting ke lie,' said the proud father. The entire house' flooring, pillars, arches, and railings were like an old-school home, similar to his childhood property. The last area to showcase was the staircase which had a 'wall of fame' of his achievements – with all his awards and trophies in display. However, Nawazuddin mentioned that he doesn't believe in awards, but feels grateful to receive them.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui says he achieved so much despite facing discrimination for his dark complexion: ‘Agar gora hota to kya ker deta'

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has always been blunt about his opinions on nepotism and prejudice against a certain section of actors in the industry, including himself. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about the society's judgement about his looks and complexion, and filmmakers' aversiveness towards making a high budget film with him. He also spoke about his 2016 movie Raman Raghav 2.0 not getting enough screens at the theatres. During a candid conversation with Nayandeep Rakshith, Nawazuddin admitted that he doesn't have a fear of losing commercially and critically. 'I don't have any fear. But yes, there are many actors who have been rejected, but keep coming back because of their film background and support system. Hum jaise log, main, Manoj Bajpayee or more actors like us, unko nahi hota yeh…box office, etc. What will you say to Manoj Bajpayee? Vo box office se upar uth chuka hai. He is not chasing it,' he said. The actor cited examples of a few actors and revealed that no one in the fraternity is ready to make a big budget film with them. 'For example, Naseer sahab (Naseeruddin Shah), Om Puri, Manoj bhai, Irrfan, or other actors like us, humein lekar Rs 25 crore se upar kabhi kisi ne film banaayi hi nahi (Nobody ever made a film with budget over Rs 25 crore with actors like me, Naseer sir, Om Puri, Manoj and Irrfan). Secondly, people want to watch our films but the screens don't reach there. If you want to see our box office numbers, then atleast give us that distribution of screens as well. Only then you'll get to know how many people want to watch us. Today, we talk highly of Irrfan. Ofcourse, he was a great actor. But, no one cast him in a film with a Rs 20-25 crore budget,' he stated. ALSO READ | Nawazuddin Siddiqui's daughter Shora impresses netizens with acting talents, called the 'next Radhika Apte'. Watch Classifying actors into two categories, he said, 'This is the reason why it's said that there are two kinds of actors, ek public ka aur ek industry ka. Even if people don't want to watch the industry's actor, their films are released right in front of your house. But, the actor whose film public actually wants to see, their film is released in 200-300 screens, ek subah ka show aur ek raat ka. I get bothered.' Nawazuddin Siddiqui felt disappointed after his film, Anurag Kashyap's directorial Raman Raghav 2.0, didn't get enough screens. 'We didn't get enough screens for Raman Raghav. The film released and there were very less screens at theatres. Jab release hui toh gaaliyan bhi padi humein ki kaisi filmein banaate hain. Jab vahi film baad mein dekhi gayi, tab logon ne bola kya film hai (When the film released, people abused us and said what sort of film is this. The same film was appreciated when it come out on OTT). This happens with many people,' he shared. When asked about facing judgements of the industry for his looks, the 51-year-old replied, 'Vo toh aaj tak jhelne padte hain. Thankfully, the industry doesn't think like that, but it still exists in the society. In my initial days, many people said, 'Aap actor dikhte nahi ho' (you don't look like an actor). That used to make me feel bad. Kya karein ab? Kaala hu toh yahan tak pahuch gaya, agar gora hota toh kya kardeta main (I am dark, still reached till here, imagine what all I could have done if I was fair).' On the professional front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was last seen in the Zee5 film Costao, directed by Sejal Shah.
