13 Naxals capitulate in Chhattisgarh
Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh), July 24 (UNI) Thirteen Maoists have surrendered in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-affected Bastar division's Narayanpur and Sukma districts. Eight rebels -- including a technical team commander -- who were active in Narayanpur's Abujhmad, capitulated during an anti-Naxal operation. The others were active in Sukma's Jagargunda and Chintalnar areas. In order to implement Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah's declaration of a Naxal-free Bastar at the ground level, the security forces are conducting a monsoon operation. The entry of personnel into dense forests has instilled fear into the minds of militants who were hitherto considering rivers and nullahs as a protective cover. "A forceful campaign is underway against the banned Maoist organisation in entire Bastar division. In the first six months of this year, 204 insurgents have been neutralised in encounters, whereas 140 surrendered. Bastar Police is committed to maintain the momentum of the drive. This success even during inclement weather showcases the firm resolve of the security forces. Lasting peace, progress, and prosperity shall be ensured in Bastar," Inspector General (Bastar Range) Sundarraj Patttilingam said today. UNI XC-AC ARN

As Monsoon session of Parliament begins, Modi's message to Oppn: ‘our hearts must definitely be in the country's interest'
Reaching out to the Opposition ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Monday that political parties may have differences of opinion, but 'our hearts must definitely be in the interest of the country.' Addressing the media before the beginning of the Monsoon Session, Modi said, 'The Monsoon Session stands as a proud moment for the nation.' 'I will definitely say that political parties are different. Each one has its own agenda, its own role. I accept this reality. Dal hit mein bhale na mile, lekin desh hit main man zaroor mile (We may have differences of opinion in the party's interest, but our hearts must definitely be in the interest of the country),' Modi said in his brief remarks minutes before the beginning of the House. 'With this feeling, many Bills that will strengthen the country's development journey, strengthen the country's progress, and empower the citizens of the country have been proposed in this Monsoon Session. The House will pass them after detailed discussions. I wish all the honourable MPs in conducting a good debate,' he said. The Prime Minister hoped for a productive Monsoon Session of Parliament, filled with enriching discussions that would strengthen democracy, adding that it is a session of national pride and victory. Referring to Operation Sindoor, Modi said the world has witnessed the strength of India's military power. He said during Operation Sindoor, Indian soldiers achieved their objective with 100 per cent success, demolishing the masterminds behind terrorism in their hideouts in just 22 minutes. Modi said that the brutal massacre in Pahalgam shocked the entire world and drew global attention to terrorism and its epicentre. Rising above party lines, representatives from across India united to expose Pakistan's role, he said, appreciating political parties and MPs. Meanwhile, the government has accepted the Opposition's demand for a discussion on Operation Sindoor during the Monsoon Session. The Opposition has demanded a discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack, and a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. Stating that over 100 districts have become Naxal-free, Modi said, 'India has endured many violent challenges, be it terrorism or Naxalism, but today, the influence of Naxalism and Maoism is shrinking rapidly…The Constitution prevails over bombs and guns. The red corridors of the past are now transforming into green zones of growth and development.' Maoist camp found in Nuapada forest
1 2 3 4 Bhubaneswar: Personnel of district voluntary force (DVF) unearthed a Maoist camp in Narayan Dongar reserve forest in Nuapada on Tuesday. A thorough search of the site led to the recovery of a Tiffin IED, 20 gelatin sticks, an electric detonator, connecting wires, torchlight, polythene sheets and other items, said Gundala Reddy Raghavendra, SP of Nuapada. The recovery of the tiffin IED and other articles indicates that the Maoists were attempting to carry out violent activities targeting security forces or civilians. The timely operation has successfully foiled any such nefarious plans, read a Nuapada police statement. The SP said, "Based on intelligence inputs, we had launched the DVF operation to identify Naxal camps. They were about to do a big explosion; however, we successfully foiled them. The home minister has given us a target to make India Naxal-free by March 2026." Security forces have intensified search and area domination operations in the area to track Maoists and to ensure the safety of nearby villages.

India sees 53 pc drop in Naxal violence over past decade
By Rajnish Singh New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): In a significant development towards achieving a Naxal-free India, there has been a 53 per cent drop in the incidents of Naxal violence over the last ten years between 2014 and 2024, compared to the decade before, government data suggests. Between 2004 and 2014, the data mentions, there were 16,463 incidents of Naxal violence. However, from 2014 to 2024, the number dropped to 7,744. As per the officials in the security establishment, the reduction in Naxal violence reflects 'the success of intensified counter-insurgency operations and strategic policies by security forces.' The impact has also been seen in the number of casualties, as the deaths of security personnel fell by a dramatic 73 per cent, from 1,851 in 2004-2014 to 509 in 2014-2024. Similarly, civilian deaths declined by 70 per cent, dropping from 4,766 to 1,495 over the same period, 2024-2025. The data also show that the trend continued strongly into 2024 and 2025. In 2024 alone, 290 Naxals were neutralised, 1,090 were arrested, and 881 surrendered. Among those neutralised were 18 top Naxal leaders, a major blow to the insurgent command structure. In 2025 (till now), 226 Naxals have been killed, 418 arrested (including 2 Central Committee Members), and 896 have surrendered. These figures highlight the continuing momentum of the government's efforts against Naxalism or Left-Wing Extremism (LWE). The coordinated actions of security forces and the surrender policy seem to be yielding long-term peace dividends in previously affected regions. The government's aggressive anti-Naxal operations over the past few years have dealt a decisive blow to the insurgency's top leadership structure. A total of 18 top Naxal leaders, many of them Central Committee Members (CCMs) and Politburo Members (PBMs), have been neutralised between 2019 and 2025. Many of these figures carried heavy cash bounties, ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1.47 crore. The most high-profile eliminations among them are Rukla Srinivas alias Ramtra (CCM) - reward of Rs 1.4 crore - neutralised in 2019; Buryari Sudhakar (CCM) - neutralised in 2019; Prashant Bose alias Kisan Da (PBM) - reward of Rs 1.47 crore - neutralised in 2021; Sheela Marandi (CCM) - neutralised in 2021; B.G. Krishnamurthy (CCM) - neutralised in 2021; Milind Teltumbde alias Deepak (CCM) - reward of Rs 50 lakh - neutralised in 2021; Yapa Narayan Rao alias Haribhushan (CCM) - neutralised in 2021; and Akkiraju Haragopal alias RK (CCM) - neutralised in 2021. Besides, Vijay Arya, alias Jaspal (CCM), Mitlesh Mehta, alias Mitlesh Prasad (CCM), and Arun Kumar Bhattacharya, alias Kanchan (CCM), were neutralised in 2022. Kudakam Sudarshan alias Anand (PBM) - carrying a reward of Rs 1 crore, Pramod Mishra (PBM) and Sanjay Deepak Rao (CCM) were neutralised in 2023. In a major symbolic and operational breakthrough, Basav Raju, the General Secretary of CPI-Maoist, was neutralised in 2025 under the continuing offensive operations. With a bounty of over Rs 1 crore, Raju was the highest-ranking Maoist leader killed so far and a key ideologue behind the group's armed struggle. Chalapathi Pratap Reddy (CCM), another top commander carrying a Rs 1 crore reward, was also eliminated in 2025, marking a significant collapse of Maoist central leadership. These high-value neutralisations were carried out under coordinated intelligence-led operations, often with the support of local informants and sophisticated tracking techniques. (ANI)
