13 Naxals capitulate in Chhattisgarh
Eight rebels -- including a technical team commander -- who were active in Narayanpur's Abujhmad, capitulated during an anti-Naxal operation. The others were active in Sukma's Jagargunda and Chintalnar areas.
In order to implement Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah's declaration of a Naxal-free Bastar at the ground level, the security forces are conducting a monsoon operation. The entry of personnel into dense forests has instilled fear into the minds of militants who were hitherto considering rivers and nullahs as a protective cover.
"A forceful campaign is underway against the banned Maoist organisation in entire Bastar division. In the first six months of this year, 204 insurgents have been neutralised in encounters, whereas 140 surrendered. Bastar Police is committed to maintain the momentum of the drive. This success even during inclement weather showcases the firm resolve of the security forces. Lasting peace, progress, and prosperity shall be ensured in Bastar," Inspector General (Bastar Range) Sundarraj Patttilingam said today.

'Empowering rural artisans key to strengthening our economy', says Sikkim RS MP
Gangtok, July 25 (UNI) Sikkim's Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, D.T. Lepcha, has raised an important question in the Rajya Sabha regarding the development and promotion of handicrafts and handloom sectors in rural areas. He highlighted the challenges faced by rural artisans and called for strong support from the central government to help preserve traditional crafts and improve livelihoods in the hills. During the session, MP Lepcha directed his query to the Ministry of Textiles. He sought detailed information on what the government is doing to support rural artisans who are struggling to sustain their craft in today's changing economy. In reply, the Ministry informed that several support measures are already in place under different government schemes. According to the Ministry, rural artisans are eligible for financial help in various areas such as purchasing raw materials, yarns, tools, and toolkits. They also receive support for product innovation, design development and marketing, both within India and in foreign markets. Special emphasis is given to help them expand their business and improve the quality of their products so they can compete better in the market. The Ministry also mentioned that infrastructure development is a key part of these schemes. This includes building proper workspaces for artisans to carry out their work. One such initiative is the National Handicrafts Development Programme, under which the government provides a 100 percent grant for the construction of worksheds. This support is available for weavers and artisans from the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), women, transgender individuals, and persons with disabilities (PwD). MP Lepcha said that these kinds of steps are very important for rural India and particularly for states like Sikkim, where many people still depend on traditional crafts to earn a living. He said, 'Such initiatives are vital in empowering our traditional artisans, preserving indigenous crafts, and strengthening the rural economy.' Handloom and handicraft work have been part of Sikkim's cultural heritage for generations. Many families in villages continue to engage in weaving, wood carving, and other traditional arts, but rising costs, lack of exposure, and limited access to modern markets have made it difficult for them to continue. Lepcha pointed out that by giving rural artisans access to better tools, credit at low interest and opportunities to showcase their work, the government can bring real change to these communities, he added. 4 lanes, 9 flyovers & 6 underpasses: New ₹325cr highway to link south Haryana & Rajasthan
Gurgaon: In an infrastructure boost to south Haryana, the Centre has decided to develop a new 45km four-lane National Highway from Nuh to Ferozepur Jhirka and Alwar on Rajasthan border and issued tenders for the Rs 325-crore project, which is expected to cut travel time and enhance road safety in the region. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The new highway, part of National Highway 248-A, will have nine flyovers, six underpasses and bypasses at Malab and Bhadas of Nuh. The govt has set a two-year completion target for the ambitious project. On completion, the highway is expected to reduce travel time to Rajasthan and tackle safety lapses on a stretch notoriously known as the "bloody highway," where over 2,500 fatalities have been reported in the past 12 years. This development is a result of persistent advocacy and public pressure over the years. The Mewat RTI Manch, a local activist group, has been at the forefront of this campaign since 2013, conducting hunger strikes and protests. Also, the group has filed a petition signed by over 20,000 residents to draw attention to the perils of existing narrow roads and demand immediate corrective measures. Initially, a ₹186-crore proposal was approved in 2019, but the project was put on hold following construction plan for Delhi-Mumbai Expressway through the area. Now, with a renewed focus and an increased budget, the Centre has moved forward with a revised estimate of ₹325 crore. Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh, who has been a vocal advocate for the project, emphasised its transformative potential for Mewat. "The project is not just about a road; it's about giving the people of this region better connectivity, safety and opportunities they've long been denied," he said. A safer and better-connected Mewat is finally taking shape," said Rajuddin, a prominent member of the RTI manch movement. Release of the tender has sparked celebrations across Nuh and nearby areas. At Badkali Chowk — the epicentre of several protests — residents gathered on Friday to express their gratitude. Mohammad Habib, an INLD functionary at Ferozepur Jhirka, said, "This road has taken too many innocent lives. The BJP govt has finally taken a step that will prove to be a milestone for every Mewati." Local activists recalled that the movement to expand NH-248A began with a five-day protest on July 9, 2017, under the banner of the Mewat RTI Manch. This was followed by a major state-wide campaign in Nov 2018, which drew national attention. The same year, the Khuni Highway Sangharsh Samiti was formed to intensify the movement.

AIADMK can't stomach DMK's popularity: Nehru
Trichy: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami 's 'Uruttugalum Thiruttugalum' campaign must be referring to 10 years of his party's govt, said municipal administration minister K N Nehru in Trichy on Friday. In a rebuttal to the opposition leader's campaign, the DMK principal secretary said AIADMK is unable to stomach the increasing popularity of the DMK govt. Nehru was inspecting the Ungaludan Stalin camp organised for wards 51 and 52 at a wedding hall in Bhima Nagar. "He (EPS) may be referring to the bluffs of the 10 years of the previous AIADMK governance. AIADMK is scared of our new members' enrolment camps and approaching the court. They failed to utilise the opportunity given by the people during their term, but we are fulfilling our promises," he said. Nehru said that welfare schemes are being implemented one after the other by the DMK govt. "Our CM writes letters every week to the Union govt seeking funds for the state for Jal Jeevan scheme, school education department, and MGNREGA schemes," he added. Around 900 applications were submitted in the camp from two wards to avail the monthly financial assistance scheme for women family heads.
