'FAIL' means first attempt of in learning: Andhra Pradesh governor Abdul Nazeer
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer has observed that the youth are the foundational pillars of India's development. Addressing the students at the 13th convocation of Vignan's University here on Saturday, governor Nazeer highlighted that students at Vignan's are studying a blend of engineering, humanities, agriculture, AI, design, and law. He emphasized that Vignan's goal is not just to produce graduates but to shape future architects of progress. Universities play a critical role in nation-building, he noted, evolving beyond mere academic centers into hubs of research, innovation, startups, and holistic development. 'Engineering has enabled advancements like drones, sensors, and data-driven farming in agriculture, as well as revolutionary changes in diagnostics and drug delivery in healthcare. Data-driven decision-making in policy, education, and psychology is facilitating sustainable solutions. Engineering, he said, is no longer just a discipline, but a language of transformation. The Andhra Pradesh government is working to transform Amaravati into a tech and knowledge city, not just an administrative capital, with smart infrastructure, sustainable practices, digital governance, and citizen-centric services. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Seniors Are Snapping Up This TV Box, We Explain! These plans aim to develop Amaravati into a Silicon Valley-like hub,' said Governor Nazeer. He said that Amaravati will not be built by just officials or engineers, but students and youth like those at Vignan's, who are the pillars of this development. He urged the graduating students to move forward with responsibility, showcasing the vision, values, ethics, and resilience instilled by Vignan's University. He defined success not as a destination but a journey, rooted in effort and wisdom rather than wealth or fame. True winners, he said, are those who set clear goals for themselves. He advised students not to compare themselves with others but to measure their progress against their own goals, citing Abraham Lincoln's perseverance through multiple failures to become the U.S. President and quoting Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam: 'FAIL means First Attempt in Learning, END means Effort Never Dies, NO means Next Opportunity.' Success is a journey, and starting it is the first victory, he added, encouraging students to pursue their goals with determination and effort. Vignan university chancellor, Dr. Lavu Rattaiah called on students to foster harmony and peace, noting that the world is witnessing conflict, discord, and intolerance. He expressed a need for leaders like Gandhi or Buddha to guide humanity toward peace. The Vedas begin with 'Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti,' emphasizing peace as the foundation of progress. He urged students to question their contributions to society, create solutions that heal humanity, and build value for both companies and society. With India poised to become the world's third-largest economy, students must innovate and make products accessible to society, marking this convocation as the beginning of their journey to drive change. Vignan vice-chairman and MP, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu emphasized that innovation must be India's development strategy. Beyond 'Make in India,' he called for 'Invent in India, Design in India, Lead from India.' India's future depends on fostering innovation across sectors, turning knowledge into systems, and shaping ideas effectively. He highlighted the youth's creativity, research, and determination but stressed the need for an environment that encourages risk-taking, entrepreneurship and the transformation of ideas into global solutions. Engineers should build cutting-edge technologies, and management students should take indigenous products global. India has immense opportunities to lead in frontier technologies, and the youth must build self-reliance to shape a 'New India' driven by courage and determination. Vignan's university conferred honorary doctorates on Chintalapati Srinivasaraju (founder, iLabs Group, Hyderabad), Ashok Atluri (managing director, Zen technologies), and Dr. Komanduri Ramachari (music guru, Indian playback singer, composer, and founder of little musicians academy) for their contributions in their respective fields. Ilabs founder Chintalapati Srinivasaraju urged students to master AI tools, emphasizing that good habits and careful planning are key to excelling in education, careers, or any field. He noted that implementing these from student life makes it easier to succeed in desired domains. Academic excellence alone isn't enough; life skills, curiosity, effective time management, emotional stability, and quick learning are critical for professional success, he added. Zen Technologies MD, Ashok Atluri highlighted that the world faces significant challenges, from technological advancements to social inequalities. He urged students, as future responsible leaders, to address these with compassion, empathy, and a sense of global citizenship. He encouraged seeking innovative solutions for a sustainable future and applying the knowledge gained at the university ethically for continuous societal development. Vignan's university vice chancellor, colonel Prof. P. Nagabhushan, said that a total of 2122 students were awarded degrees during the convocation. Additionally, 60 gold medals were presented, including 26 academic gold medals, 23 best outgoing student awards, 1 chairman's gold medal. World must produce 60 pc more food by 2050; AI can help: Andhra Guv
Vijayawada, Jul 24 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer on Thursday said that the world needs to produce 60 per cent more food by 2050 to feed a global population of 9.3 billion, emphasising that AI could be instrumental in achieving this goal. Citing the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the governor noted that this target is a tall order but stressed that Artificial Intelligence can play a pivotal role in the agriculture sector. 'According to FAO reports, by 2050 we must produce 60 per cent more food to feed a global population of 9.3 billion. That would be a tall order to achieve with the current farming systems. This is where AI can be helpful," said Nazeer, addressing the 57th annual convocation of Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) near Vijayawada. The governor pointed out that India's population is expected to rise to around 1.6 billion by 2050, necessitating the production of 400 million tonnes of food. He observed that AI can help address challenges in farming, such as pest control, by analysing historical pest activity. It can also prevent soil degradation through continuous monitoring and analysis of soil health data, he added. Despite advancements in agricultural practices, weeds still cause significant declines in crop yield and quality, he said, adding that drones can be used to identify and control weeds. 'Integrating AI in agriculture will not only reshape current practices but also pave the way for a sustainable and resilient future," said Nazeer. He claimed that AI could assist in the entire farming cycle—from seed selection to harvest and beyond—including real-time adjustments to farming practices based on climate shifts to ensure optimal crop health and yield. Nazeer also highlighted that India achieved a record food grain production of 354 million tonnes in 2024, marking a 6.5 per cent increase over the previous year. This surge in production was driven by bumper harvests of key crops such as wheat, rice, and maize, he said. However, he cautioned that rising population, climate change, pressure on dwindling natural resources, and geopolitical tensions continue to threaten global food security.
