Franck Haise unsure of Tanguy Ndombélé's return date

After undergoing surgery on a sports hernia issue, there is not yet a return date for OGC Nice's Tanguy Ndombélé (28). Nice confirmed at the start of July that the Frenchman had undergone surgery on the problem. It is a problem that saw him sidelined for almost the entirety of the second half of the season. In January, the former Tottenham Hotspur revealed that he had been struggling with a sports hernia issue. Those problems continued and worsened over the second half of the season. He went from a peripheral figure to off the radar entirely. His last appearance in Ligue 1 dates back to the end of February. As reported by Get French Football News, the player was reticent to undergo surgery, Ndombélé was reticent to undergo surgery. Speaking to , Franck Haise has confirmed this. 'He has had surgery and that is good. I regret that it happened so late because I would have preferred for him to do pre-season with us. It was his choice [not to undergo surgery]. That's how it is,' said the Nice manager. Haise could not put a date on Ndombélé's return. 'I am just waiting for one thing: to see when the doctor and Benoît (Delaval, head of performance) say that he can train intensely with the squad. I don't know if that will be October, November, December, in January…,' he said. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

OGC Nice predicted XI v Saint-Étienne: Tanguy Ndombélé out

Tanguy Ndombélé is the only new absentee for OGC Nice as they look to continue their fine run of form when they visit AS Saint-Étienne. Ndombélé, as revealed by Franck Haise in midweek, is suffering with a pubalgia issue, which has been recurring for a number of weeks. The Frenchman even saw a surgeon a few weeks back in order to evoke the possibility of surgery. It was decided at the time that surgery was not necessary and this assessment still rings true. Nonetheless, Ndombélé will play no part for Nice today. Morgan Sanson and Terem Moffi are both nearing returns for Le Gym but neither will be fit in time to play against Saint-Étienne. It will therefore be Gaëtan Laborde who continues to lead the line with Evann Guessand and Mohamed-Ali Cho alongside him. Marcin Bulka; Dante, Youssouf Ndayishimiye, Moïse Bombito; Melvin Bard, Baptiste Santamaria, Hicham Boudaoui, Jonathan Clauss; Mohamed-Ali Cho, Gaëtan Laborde, Evann Guessand.
