OGC Nice predicted XI v Saint-Étienne: Tanguy Ndombélé out

Yahoo01-03-2025
Tanguy Ndombélé is the only new absentee for OGC Nice as they look to continue their fine run of form when they visit AS Saint-Étienne.
Ndombélé, as revealed by Franck Haise in midweek, is suffering with a pubalgia issue, which has been recurring for a number of weeks. The Frenchman even saw a surgeon a few weeks back in order to evoke the possibility of surgery. It was decided at the time that surgery was not necessary and this assessment still rings true. Nonetheless, Ndombélé will play no part for Nice today.
Morgan Sanson and Terem Moffi are both nearing returns for Le Gym but neither will be fit in time to play against Saint-Étienne. It will therefore be Gaëtan Laborde who continues to lead the line with Evann Guessand and Mohamed-Ali Cho alongside him.
Marcin Bulka; Dante, Youssouf Ndayishimiye, Moïse Bombito; Melvin Bard, Baptiste Santamaria, Hicham Boudaoui, Jonathan Clauss; Mohamed-Ali Cho, Gaëtan Laborde, Evann Guessand. (L'Éq)

Mondo Duplantis breaks pole vault world record for 13th time

Sweden's Mondo Duplantis has broken the men's pole vault world record for a 13th time. Duplantis, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, cleared 6.29 meters (20 feet 7 1/2 inches) at a meet in Budapest, Hungary, on Tuesday. For all of Duplantis' 13 world records, including three times in 2025, he has chosen to increase the record by the minimum one centimeter. It's the same record-breaking strategy used by Ukrainian Sergey Bubka, who maximized bonus money by raising the bar one centimeter at a time on many occasions in the 1980s and '90s. Bubka broke the outdoor world record 17 times and the indoor world record 18 times between 1984 and 1994, before World Athletics shifted to one world record combining indoor and outdoor. Before Duplantis, the world record was 6.16 meters, set by Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie in 2014. Duplantis, born and raised in Louisiana with a Swedish mom, broke Lavillenie's record in February 2020. He has lost just four times since the start of 2020, while racking up more than 80 victories, according to Next month, Duplantis will bid to become the second man to win three world outdoor pole vault titles in a row after Bubka, who won the first six crowns from 1983 through 1997. Bulls rookie Noa Essengue explains why he'll wear No. 24 in the NBA

After wearing No. 12 for much of his basketball career, rookie Noa Essengue will have a new jersey number when he debuts next season with the Chicago Bulls. Essengue donned No. 12 while playing with ratiopharm Ulm last season in the German League. He also had that number while representing France on the international level, most recently in the 2024 FIBA U18 EuroBasket Championship. With veteran Zach Collins currently occupying No. 12, Essengue opted to double that number and wear No. 24 with the Bulls. He is also paying homage to Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant, who wore it over the second half of his career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Essengue was the 12th pick after averaging 10.7 points, five rebounds and 1.2 assists on 52.1% shooting from the field in 60 games last season. He has registered seven 20-point games, including a 22-point, 14-rebound performance on June 1. The Frenchman debuted with the Bulls in the NBA Summer League, averaging 12.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals on 41.9% shooting from the field in three appearances. He finished off his stay with a 21-point performance on July 14. Essengue was highly touted as a prospect this year because of his size, rebounding and defensive versatility. The team is excited about his addition and is eager to watch him take the court next season. Note: Throughout August, Rookie Wire is looking at every first-round pick and why each player selected their respective jersey number as they make the jump to the NBA.
