Pokemon GO Solgaleo Raid Guide: Best counters, tips, and moves to defeat the Sun Lion

Solgaleo in Pokemon GO I Credits: Pokemon GO Solgaleo, the majestic Sunne Pokemon, has officially entered 5-star raids in Pokemon GO and will be available from July 8 to 14, 2025. This is its first appearance outside of Special Research, and it brings a tough challenge with its Psychic and Steel-type. Trainers need to go in prepared because this lion doesn't go down easy. Whether you're raiding for the Pokédex entry, hunting high IVs, or prepping for future fusions with Necrozma, here's your all-in-one guide. Solgaleo: Strengths, weaknesses, and what to expect Solgaleo makes its 5-star raid debut in Pokémon GO from Tuesday, July 8, at 10 am to Monday, July 14, 2025, at 10 am local time. Join global raids with Raid NOW: 🥊 — Leek Duck 🦆🤝👖 (@LeekDuck) July 7, 2025 Solgaleo has a max CP of 4570, solid Attack (255), high Stamina (264), and decent Defense (191). That means it's tanky enough to drag raids out if you don't use the right counters. Because of its unique Psychic/Steel combo, it has: Double resistance to Poison and Psychic Single resistance to Dragon, Grass, Ice, Normal, Rock, Steel, Flying, and Fairy moves That's a long list. So avoid using those types if you want fast results. Solgaleo is weak to: Focus on these types for your team. Meta Pokemon counters for Solgaleo Solgaleo has a max CP of 4570 and is known for being bulky and hard-hitting. It resists a long list of attacks, thanks to its dual Psychic and Steel type. It's extra strong against Poison and Psychic moves, and also resists Dragon, Ice, Grass, Flying, Rock, Fairy, Steel, and Normal types. Solgaleo is in raids for the first time ever in #PokemonGO — Dittobase (@dittobase) July 7, 2025 Avoid using those types. Instead, focus on the four that hit it hard: Dark, Fire, Ghost, and Ground. Your best bets to bring into the raid include strong Fire-types like Mega Charizard Y or Mega Blaziken, and powerful Ghost-types like Mega Gengar or Dawn Wings Necrozma. Primal Groudon and Garchomp are excellent Ground-type options, while Hydreigon and Mega Tyranitar can deliver major Dark-type damage. If you have Shadow versions of Chandelure or Heatran, those work too. Solgaleo's moveset and threats Solgaleo's moves can catch you off guard. Here's what it might use: Fast Moves: Zen Headbutt (Psychic) Fire Spin (Fire) Charged Moves: Flamethrower (Fire) Iron Head (Steel) Psychic Fangs (Psychic, lowers defense) Solar Beam (Grass) Watch out for Flamethrower and Solar Beam especially, they can knock out your counters fast if you're not careful. How many Pokemon trainers do you need? Best-case duo: Only with maxed-out teams and top counters Comfortable: 4 to 6 experienced trainers Solo: Not possible Windy or Snow weather boosts Solgaleo's CP (to 2887 at Level 25), but also powers up your Ghost, Fire, and Ground counters. So, it's a double-edged sword. PvP & PvE moveset recommendations For PvP (Ultra League): Fire Spin + Psychic Fangs + Iron Head: This combo offers solid energy gain, shield pressure, and Steel coverage. For PvE: Zen Headbutt + Solar Beam: It's not a top-tier attacker in raids, but can be used in niche cases. 8/7/2025 14:3:41
