Bus driver & his sick wife ‘who barely left home' died with 2 dachshunds when car plunged 300ft off cliff at UK landmark
A BUS driver and his "frail" wife who tragically died when their car plunged 300ft off a cliff have been identified by locals. John and Lynn King were reportedly with their two Daschshunds when their car plummeted into Alum Bay, near to the Needles, on the Isle of Wight last Friday. 6 6 6 The couple's silver Ford Mondeo left the road close to the world-famous coastal landmark, killing the pair instantly. It is understood that John, who drove for local company Southern Vectis, was a full-time carer for his wife. According to locals, Lynn had rarely been seen out the house for the past two years. Speaking to the MailOnline, one neighbour said: "She wasn't well, I don't know exactly what she was suffering from but I think it was serious. "John was effectively her carer. He was helping his wife to the car and their two Dachshund dogs were with them. 'His wife looked really, really frail. I was surprised to see her out of the house. She was hunched over quite badly and was finding it very difficult to walk." Emergency services were scrambled to Alum Bay New Road, close to the coastal spot, shortly after 7.20pm on Friday. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed on Sunday that two people died in the tragedy. The force explained: "A car, which was being driven along Alum Bay New Road, left the road, came off the cliff top and came to rest in the water below." Cops also closed the neighbouring Needles Landmark Attraction while emergency crews attended the site. Responders were stood down in the early hours of Saturday morning. In a statement released on Saturday evening, a police spokesperson said: "Formal identification has yet to take place, but their next of kin have been notified. "As part of the ongoing investigation into the incident, on behalf of the coroner, officers have been carrying out enquiries at an address on Arctic Road, Cowes." 6 6

EXCLUSIVE Revealed: Couple who died with their two dachshunds when their car plummeted 300ft off a cliff were a bus driver and his wife who was so ill and frail she had hardly left home
A couple who died when their car plummeted 300ft off a cliff near a well-known coastal spot were a bus driver and his wife who was so ill and frail she had hardly left home for two-years, neighbours have told MailOnline. The tragic couple - named locally today as John and Lynn King - died instantly when their silver Ford Mondeo, which also contained their two Dachshund dogs, drove off a cliff close to the Needles on the Isle of Wight on Friday evening. John worked as a driver for local bus company, Southern Vectis, and knew the routes around the island well, neighbours said. One local told MailOnline how she had seen the couple - thought to be aged in their early 70s - just hours before they died. John was helping Lynn into their car because she was struggling to walk unaided. The couple had their two Dachshund dogs with them. The neighbour said: 'It's really sad, I spoke to John a few times. He would always park his car right outside my house. I think I saw his wife maybe twice in the three years they'd been living in the road. 'She wasn't well. I don't know exactly what she was suffering from but I think it was serious. 'John was effectively her carer. I never saw nurses or medically trained staff ever go in. I think he did everything for her. 'On Friday afternoon, some time between 4pm and 4.45pm I saw John walk past my window. 'He was helping his wife to the car. Their two Dachshund dogs were with them. 'His wife looked really, really frail. She was hunched over quite badly and was finding it very difficult to walk. I was surprised to see her out of the house. 'That was the last time I saw them. They never came home. 'The police turned up at their home around midnight on Friday night into Saturday morning. 'I think what happened may have been planned. John drove for a living and knew these roads on the island like the back of his hand. 'He'd mown his lawn for the first time in three years last Wednesday. Two days before he died. He'd never done that before ever. 'But for some reason he only cut a small patch of the garden, close to the back of the house. I thought that was unusual. 'To me, he seemed like he was getting things in order. Then on Friday he took his wife and dogs out in the car - which he never did before - and that was the last we saw of them. 'I don't know if they had children or grandchildren. I'd say there were in their early 70s. But John was a nice guy and doted on his wife.' The couple's rented terraced home in Cowes is still being searched by Hampshire and Isle of Wight police officers. Coastguard, police, firefighters and ambulance crews all rushed to the scene on Friday evening and photos showed them working to get to the car. Witnesses said they watched on as a man was pulled from the wreckage and onto the shore. Response teams were then reportedly seen commencing CPR on one of the casualties. Photos of the aftermath show the wreckage of the car submerged in the water. With the roof and bonnet crumpled, while coastguard searched around it. In a statement released on Friday evening, the police said: 'We're currently at the scene of a serious incident in Totland. 'We were called at 7.21pm this evening after a car, which was being driven along Alum Bay New Road, left the road, came off the cliff top and came to rest in the water below.' Emergency services rushed to the scene and a winchman was lowered from the coastguard helicopter down to the bottom of the cliff. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed at Yarmouth where two ambulances, a critical care paramedic and Police had relocated awaiting the arrival of a casualty. Two coastguard teams responded and were stood down in the early hours of Saturday morning. The cliff sits near the world-famous Isle of Wight Needles, which is a row of three stacks of chalk that rise about 30 metres above the water. Near the landmark is a small theme park with a viewing point and chairlift down to the beach, with views of The Needles. The attraction brings in thousands of visitors every year and is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island. The Needles Landmark Attraction was closed by police yesterday while emergency teams attended the incident. Access to the beach, an observation tower and the Needles Old Battery fort were also restricted.

Horror as car plunges off cliff near coastal landmark with man 'recovered' from the water
A car plunged hundreds of feet off a cliff near a coastal landmark in the Isle of Wight. It is understood a man was 'recovered' from the water by a lifeboat volunteer. The silver vehicle fell into the water below the cliff on Friday evening and was left wrecked. Emergency services were called at around 7.20pm to Alum Bay in the Isle of Wight. Police, firefighters, paramedics and coastguards all attended the scene following reports of a 'serious incident'. In a statement, the police said: 'We're currently at the scene of a serious incident in Totland. 'We were called at 7.21pm this evening (Friday, June 6) after a car, which was being driven along Alum Bay New Road, left the road, came off the cliff top and came to rest in the water below.' The cliff sits near the world-famous Isle of Wight Needles, which is a row of three stacks of chalk that rise about 30 metres above the water. Despite the incident, a one-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight, named The Round the Island Race, still went ahead yesterday. Yachts passed Alum Bay, where the car fell. The race attracts more than 1,200 boats and around 10,000 sailors a year. It is one of the largest yacht races in the world.

Arizona woman who vanished 18 months ago is finally found... as career criminal is arrested
A man has been charged with shooting a woman to death and burying her in the desert after she went missing 18 months ago. Tyna Castillo, 42, was last seen on December 11, 2023, and is believed to have left her home in Bullhead, Arizona, to meet a man in California. Friends never heard from her again and couldn't get hold of her, and she was eventually reported missing on February 4 last year. Police investigated claims that Castillo was murdered at a home in Needles, California, an isolated town on the Arizona border near the bottom of Nevada. 'Detectives contacted witnesses and people of interest in Castillo's disappearance and received poor cooperation,' police recounted. 'The case went cold, and Castillo was not located.' For a year, Castillo's family and friends suspected what happened, but no witnesses would talk to police. They sent out a poster offering a $1,000 reward for information, and explaining what they believed to be the circumstances of her disappearance. 'She was visiting a guy out in Needles. His story is they got into it and he kicked her out,' the poster read. 'Apparently he left while she was packing and has nooo idea who picked her up or where she was going. His story has changed three times.' San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's cold case homicide team reopened the case last September and found new leads. After eight different searches, the assistance of several other agencies and more than 100 volunteers, Castillo's body was finally found on March 5. Her remains were where her friends and family expected - in the desert outside Needles along the Colorado River, with at least one bullet wound. Detectives eventually determined Jared Winer, 44, the man Castillo went to meet, allegedly shot her dead and issued an arrest warrant. Bullhead City Police Department officers arrested Winer at a traffic stop on May 6, and he was charged with Castillo's murder this week. Family and friends sent out a poster offering a $1,000 reward for information, and explaining what they believed to be the circumstances of her disappearance Her sister Cheryl Castillo formally announced her death with a tribute last week after Winer's arrest. 'Everyone was drawn to my sister, Tyna Castillo. She lit up every room she entered, effortlessly becoming the heart of any group,' she said. 'She lived boldly, without fear of judgment, and was endlessly creative, witty, loving, and determined. 'It is with immense sadness that I share the tragic news of her passing. Though her life was taken too soon, we take comfort in knowing she did not suffer. 'The world has lost a bright light, and our hearts are broken. Tyna is survived by her two beloved children.' Castillo grew up in Rosemead, California, with her parents John and Candy, sister Cheryl, and brother Robert. 'She grew up playing second base in softball for the LadyHawks and continued her athletic journey at Rosemead High School,' her obituary read. 'Tyna had a bold spirit, often pushing the boundaries, and was surrounded by a loving circle of lifelong friends.' Castillo had her first child, her daughter Alena, 26, when she was just 17 and moved to Arizona in 2010, where here son Steven, 11, was born. She worked at a law firm, studied nursing, and earned her degree in fashion design from Brooks College. 'She was creative, artsy, a great cook, and had a deep love for music. More than anything, Tyna had a remarkable ability to connect with others - rooted in her genuine acceptance of people as they were,' the obituary read. Police didn't explain how she met Winer or the circumstances leading up to her alleged murder. Winer has a long criminal history of drug and illegal firearm possession, and was one of seven people busted with 5,000 fentanyl pills and guns in Bullhead in 2023. He was locked up in Mohave County Adult Detention Facility charge with murder, and also an outstanding warrant for a felony parole violation. Winer will be extradited to California to face trail after his Arizona charge is dealt with.
