Nashik: State legislative council deputy chairperson Neelam Gorhe on Friday urged govt to plan for the safety of women, children and senior citizens during the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik, aiming to set an exemplary model. Gorhe chaired a meeting at the Nashik divisional commissionerate to discuss safety, cleanliness and issues concerning women and children during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, with officials including divisional commissioner Praveen Gedam, collector Jalaj Sharma and police and municipal authorities in attendance. Nashik: Maharashtra legislative council deputy speaker Neelam Gorhe has called for special camps to register sugar cane and domestic workers , ensuring they benefit from various government welfare schemes . Speaking at a review meeting with district officials at the government rest house, she emphasized the need for prompt registration to enable access to educational facilities and social security schemes. "Health camps should be organised for the workers. Initiatives should be taken to obtain health insurance and accident protection insurance for the workers," she said. Gorhe also urged that 3% of district annual plan funds reserved for the Women and Child Welfare department be used for preventive measures against atrocities on women. "While the women who are the victims get help through the 'Manodhairya' scheme, the funds from the annual plan should be used to provide urgent help required by them," she said. Calling for greater child protection, she recommended the establishment of child-friendly police stations in five locations. "A proposal should be submitted for setting up child-friendly police stations in five places in the district," she added. She highlighted the importance of strengthening 'Bharosa' cells and introducing 'Online Bharosa' cells in areas lacking them. "Women police officers... should be trained not only with technical knowledge but also to provide services from a human perspective. Counselling of aggrieved women should be done through home visits," she noted. To support tourism, Gorhe also recommended appointing a nodal officer to handle complaints from visitors to Ahilyanagar and nearby areas, ensuring a positive image of the district.
