Social media reacts to Oklahoma's 13-2 win over Alabama to advance to WCWS
Social media reacts to Oklahoma's 13-2 win over Alabama to advance to WCWS The Oklahoma Sooners were supposed to be in a rebuilding year. They weren't supposed to win the SEC. They weren't supposed to be a title contender yet again. But here we are. The Sooners won the SEC and two weekends into the NCAA Tournament, the Sooners are heading back to Oklahoma City. For the ninth consecutive season, the Sooners are in the Women's College World Series with a chance to win their fifth straight national championship. The Sooners advanced with a powerful performance from the lineup that featured four home runs, including two from true freshman Gabbie Garcia, one from redshirt freshman Nelly McEnroe-Marinas, and one from sophomore Ella Parker. Yeah, the corps of this team, which includes sophomore Kasidi Pickering, who hit a home run in the game one 3-0 win, is still really young. The Oklahoma Sooners also received a steady performance from junior pitcher Kierton Deal, who allowed two runs in four innings pitched for the win. She was relieved by true freshman Audrey Lowry, who's now gone five appearances without allowing a run. It was a performance reminiscent of the Oklahoma Sooners national title runs, and here's how social media reacted to the win. They're still pretty good Kierston Deal was a Big Deal Absolutely Dominant She's the GOAT for a reason The Tradition The Legend is Loving It The Out to go to OKC Staying Home Big Time Abigale Dayton They were not ready The Champ is Here Present and Future Gabbie Garcia is special The Breakout 3rd Inning Scorecard Alum Loving It Contact/Follow us @SoonersWire on X, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Oklahoma news, notes, and opinions. Oklahoma Sooners opponents, Key Players in the Norman Regional
Oklahoma Sooners opponents, Key Players in the Norman Regional The NCAA softball tournament gets underway this weekend and the No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners are set to host the Cal Golden Bears, Boston Terriers, and Omaha Mavericks in the Norman Regional. Oklahoma is a favorite to get back to Oklahoma City for the Women's College World Series, but first they'll have to conquer a regional that features a pair of conference tournament champions that are playing good softball right now. The Sooners hit their stride in the SEC tournament, picking up wins over LSU and Arkansas to advance to the tournament championship. Although weather canceled what would have been their only matchup with Texas A&M this season, the Sooners are tuned up for another deep run at a national championship. Key players Nelly McEnroe-Marinas, Gabbie Garcia, and Sydney Barker will be making their first NCAA tournament appearances. Sam Landry, who transferred from Louisiana and was named SEC Newcomer of the Year, is making her first appearance after helping the Ragin Cajuns upset LSU in the Baton Rouge regional in 2023. Kasidi Pickering and Ella Parker are back in the tournament for the second time after their heroics as true freshmen helped the Oklahoma Sooners win their record fourth-straight national title. Parker and Pickering are No. 1 and No. 2 in batting average for the Sooners in 2025 and have been playing good ball of late. They'll be critical to Oklahoma's national title aspirations. McEnroe-Marinas captains Oklahoma into NCAA Tournament
The road to Oklahoma City and the NCAA Softball Championship officially begins this week, and the Aloha State will be well represented. Nine players from Hawaii high schools across eight collegiate programs are set to compete in the regional round of the NCAA Tournament. Among them, two standouts Maryknoll graduate Nelly McEnroe-Marinas and 'Iolani alum Ailana Agbayani are suiting up for top-ranked Oklahoma, the four-time defending national champions. Oklahoma is the only school in the tournament featuring multiple players from Hawaii. And for McEnroe-Marinas, her redshirt freshman campaign has been nothing short of remarkable. After bouncing back from injury, she was named a team captain, an uncommon honor for an underclassman. She enters the postseason batting .345 with 14 home runs. 'It's a blessing,' McEnroe-Marinas said. 'I'm just so grateful for all the things that I went through and all the things that I've learned from the past captains. Just being able to soak all of that in is a huge honor. But definitely with this team, I'm not doing anything alone.' Asked how her upbringing helped shape her leadership style, McEnroe-Marinas credited her island roots. 'The Hawaiian culture is unmatched. I think it's a big reason why I got picked to be a captain in the first place,' she said. 'Being able to grow up in that environment and bring that environment here to Oklahoma and spread the aloha. It's just amazing.' Agbayani, a junior transfer from BYU, has made an immediate impact, batting .331 with 31 RBIs this season. Together, the duo brings island flair and culture to Norman, something McEnroe-Marinas says their teammates appreciate. 'In our BP sessions, we're the only ones vibing out to reggae,' she joked. 'I love having Ailana on this team. We never had the opportunity to be teammates growing up, and now we do, it's insane.' In addition to the Sooners' duo, seven more Hawaii high school graduates are featured on tournament rosters: 2025 NCAA Softball Tournament – Hawaii High School Graduates • Oregon: Braiesey Rosa (Waianae) – Sophomore Catcher • San Diego State: Quinn Waiki (Campbell) – Freshman Infielder • Arizona: Jenna Sniffen (Maryknoll) – Freshman Infielder • Santa Clara: Cairah Curran (Campbell) – Sophomore IF/OF • Grand Canyon: Lovey Kepa'a (Leilehua) – Senior Infielder • Georgia: Mua Williams (Kamehameha) – Freshman Utility • Howard: Kenna Higa (Kamehameha) – Senior 1B/3B • Oklahoma: Nelly McEnroe-Marinas (Maryknoll) – Freshman Infielder Ailana Agbayani ('Iolani) – Junior Second Baseman Top-seeded Oklahoma opens tournament play on Friday against Boston.
