Rangers star bids emotional farewell to club as he tells fans ‘thank you for the memories'

Six big names have left Rangers after the end of the season NANA GOODBYE Rangers star bids emotional farewell to club as he tells fans 'thank you for the memories' RANGERS bid farewell to a host of first team stars last week. Now, one of those players has appeared to confirm he WON'T be returning to the club on a permanent basis. It followed the conclusion of a highly disappointing season for the Ibrox side but also comes before the arrival of a major new era for the Light Blues. Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises' takeover will be completed in due course, while a new manager is close to being appointed. So it very much appears to be a clean break for all concerned at Ibrox. Advertisement That break saw the exits of those key first team players last week. Big names Ianis Hagi, Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence have all left after their contracts came to an end. Rangers also said goodbye to three loan players, Vaclav Cerny, Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Rafael Fernandes. Dutch defender Kasanwirjo joined on a season-long loan from Feyenoord last season. Advertisement Once he got his chance, he impressed but a devastating knee injury suffered on international duty late last year wrecked his campaign. The 23-year old did regain his fitness in time to make a return before the end of the season but it appears it was too late for him to earn a permanent switch. What does Rangers takeover mean for the club - finance expert speaks out Rangers' deal with Feyenoord included an option to make the move permanent this summer - but given the message Kasanwirjo has shared on social media, it appears that almost certainly WON'T be being triggered. Netherlands under-21 international Kasanwirjo took to Instagram and delivered what appears to be a final farewell to the Ibrox club. Advertisement Alongside a series of pictures of his time with the Gers, he said: "Wore the shirt with pride, even when injury kept me off the pitch. "Thank you for the trust, support and memories. "Rangers family 💙" Meanwhile, incoming Gers supremo Cavenagh is reportedly on his way to Europe to take a leading role in the club's manager search. Advertisement According to reports, the US health insurance tycoon will beet boss contenders Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin this week. The boss search has been led by Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart, new sporting director Kevin Thelwell and key 49ers figure Gretar Steinsson until now. Former Real Madrid assistant manager Ancelotti remains the odds-on favourite for the job but SunSport exclusively revealed on Monday night that Martin was very much still in the frame for the job. 3 The defender appears to have said a final goodbye to the club Credit: INSTAGRAM Advertisement Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

A further piece of footage then showed a glass Buckfast bottle had been lobbed onto the park as well and was lying within the box. Rangers substitute Neraysho Kasanwirjo was then seen running onto the pitch to remove the bottle himself. Images also show the Dutch defender also removing another plastic cup. What appears to be a disposable vape could also been seen lying on the ground as Kasanwirjo removed the bottle and cup. Earlier this year, Rangers were rapped by Uefa after a vape was thrown onto the park during the Europa League clash against Fenerbahce. The Turkish side's goalkeeper Irfan Can Egribayat was seen holding the item in his hand after it landed close to him. It's a fixture that in recent times too has seen all too many of these situations. Objects appeared to be thrown towards Rangers substitutes as they celebrated Hamza Igamane's winning goal at Celtic Park in the last derby meeting. Leeds legend Eddie Gray on 49ers' Rangers takeover and influence of Paraag Marathe A year ago, Celtic released a furious statement after a glass bottle was thrown towards midfielder Matt O'Riley during another derby encounter. It landed on the pitch just yards away from the now former Hoops star after he scored a penalty. On that occasion, the Hoops blasted: "It has been confirmed today that a glass bottle was thrown at Matt O'Riley at yesterday's match. "The repeated targeting of our players and staff with missiles is quite appalling and completely unacceptable. The 23-year-old Dutchman impressed in his 45 minutes on the park, and even managed to score the opening goal after surging forward to blast a close range finish beyond Celtic goalkeeper Marcus Gill. Rangers retain Glasgow Cup in dramatic shootout at Firhill

Neraysho Kasanwirjo, making his first appearance since mid-November following a serious knee injury, marked his comeback in style by netting the opener for Rangers. The Dutch defender, on loan from Feyenoord, pounced on a loose ball in the box shortly after the half-hour mark and coolly poked beyond the Celtic goalkeeper—his celebration a reflection of the long road back from injury. The game, while officially a B team contest, carried all the intensity of the Old Firm rivalry, with tackles flying in and both sets of players giving little away. Celtic responded just before the break when Rhys Dargie steered home a deflected effort from Jude Bonnar to level proceedings. Kasanwirjo's night ended at half-time as he was replaced by Jack Wyllie, but the drama continued. Read more: Dargie thought he had a second on 54 minutes only for the offside flag to deny him, moments after Paul Nsio came close for Rangers at the other end. Chances fell to Bonnar and Chris Eadie during a frenetic final 30 minutes, but the game was ultimately overshadowed by a lengthy stoppage due to a head injury to Rangers' Cameron Scott, which led to 16 minutes of additional time. Celtic pressed hard late on, with Kyle Ure seeing a goalbound effort blocked, but neither side could find a winner in open play. In the shootout, Aiden McCallion held his nerve in sudden death to seal victory for Rangers, who watched Celtic's Lewis Dobbie fire the decisive penalty wide. Rangers lift the trophy for the second year running and the 60th time overall after another gripping final. Final score: Celtic 1–1 Rangers (Rangers win 5–4 on penalties) (Image: Premier Sports)
