Neverway by Celeste artist, blends cosy life sim and dark fantasy horror in 2026 release

Coldblood Inc. has announced that its upcoming title, Neverway, a pixel-art life simulation RPG with a darker twist, will launch in 2026. The game was featured during Nintendo's latest Indie World Showcase, offering a first look at its unique blend of life-sim mechanics and supernatural themes. The project is co-directed by Pedro Medeiros, best known for his art on Celeste, alongside other experienced indie developers. Described by the studio as a 'nightmarish life sim RPG,' Neverway retains familiar gameplay elements such as farming, crafting, cooking, fishing, combat, and building relationships with non-player characters, while introducing a more unsettling narrative layer. In Neverway, players take on the role of a new resident in a rural setting, only to discover that they are the immortal herald of a dead god. This premise shapes the core storyline, with the game's Steam description urging players to 'make friends, fight through horrors, and pay your debt' with a recurring warning that debt must be repaid 'at all costs.' The trailer showcased a range of in-game scenes, from peaceful farming to encounters with eerie creatures such as crawling ghouls and floating skulls. This combination of pastoral life and horror elements aims to set Neverway apart from traditional life sims, which typically focus on lighter themes. With Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe shifting focus to his upcoming project, Haunted Chocolatier, Neverway may capture the interest of fans looking for a fresh but familiar experience with added narrative depth. Players will be able to purchase Neverway on PC via Steam, with further platform availability yet to be confirmed. Coldblood Inc. has not announced a specific release date for 2026.

Take-Two refuses to comment on GTA 6 pricing, but says it'll be 'more value than what we charge'

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has spoken out about the pricing of GTA 6, though he was hesitant to make any concrete statements on the matter. The boss of Take-Two Interactive has remained tight-lipped on the potential price tag for the much-anticipated GTA 6, as fans anxiously await news of another possible steep price increase for what is set to be 2026's most eagerly awaited game. ‌ GTA 6 is poised to become one of the most significant video games in history if the current hype continues to build over the next few years. However, this brings its own challenges. Can Rockstar Games truly meet the high expectations and deliver one of the greatest games ever made? And if it scores a mere 7/10, would that be considered a failure for the company? ‌ There's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the game. While other titles are set to launch in 2026, such as the stunning Neverway revealed at the recent Nintendo Direct Indie World showcase, and a new Monster Hunter Stories title announced at its preceding Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, there's no doubt that GTA 6 will dominate the gaming conversation – if players can afford it. ‌ Following the audacious $80 price tag for Mario Kart World, and The Outer Worlds 2 being forced to slash its price due to player backlash, announced via Twitter, the discussion around video game prices has once again taken centre stage. Naturally, the world's most anticipated game has come under scrutiny. Yet, Take-Two Interactive has offered little insight into the matter, although there seems to be a hint that gamers might be spared another $80 release. ‌ Another GTA heist? Take-Two Interactive has been probed about the possibility of a particularly pricey GTA 6. While the company hasn't explicitly ruled out the idea of an £80 game, it has emphasised its commitment to providing players with value for money. "That announcement will come from Rockstar in due time," Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick told Variety. "Our goal always is to deliver more value than what we charge, so we've had variable pricing at the company forever. As you know, the approach of the industry is to launch at a premium price, sometimes with special editions, and over time, typically to reduce the price to enhance the overall size of the market. We do the very same thing. I think, probably more than most, we're highly focused on making sure that the experience is great, not just because the game itself is great, but also because consumers have paid a fair price for it." Zelnick has kept mum on the burning question, but he's hinted that GTA 6 will be worth every penny. Rockstar Games is in a privileged position with its biggest franchise – even if they slapped a £100 price tag on each copy, it would still fly off the shelves and become one of the best-selling titles ever. Whether this practice is ethical or not is up to the fans to decide, but if anyone can pull it off, it's Rockstar. We're not out of the woods yet, but that doesn't mean we aren't being pursued by a red-eyed, raging price tag.

The Nintendo Direct Indie World was another dud – except for the last 30 seconds

Two of the best games of 2024 are coming to Switch, and one of them is out today, but the latest Nintendo Direct barely mentioned them. Thanks to Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, the Nintendo Switch 2 now has two of the highest rated video games of the year under its belt. But its future, both immediate and long term, remains unclear. Not necessarily in the sense that there's anything to worry about, but purely because Nintendo is saying so little about what comes next. We still don't have firm release dates for Metroid Prime 4, Kirby Air Riders, or Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment, and no clue at all as to what's out next year. On top of that, the third party focused Nintendo Direct from last month was a surprisingly uninspiring affair, with rumours suggesting several games were cut from its line-up at the last minute. Only a week later and today had another new Nintendo Direct, this one an Indie World variant focusing on, you guessed it, indie games. Sadly, it was only 15 minutes long and seemed to have even less reason for existing than last week's, except for two exciting announcements buried in a brief montage at the end. Since it is so short, we advise watching the whole thing, as we're sure some, if not most, of these games will turn out very well. Mina The Hollower by the makers of Shovel Knight will almost certainly be worth the long wait for it to appear, although there's not long to go now as its release date was announced as October 31. The game's a top-down action adventure that looks like a long lost Game Boy Color game, if a Game Boy Color Pro was a thing that actually existed. Animal herding game Herdling had some impressive 3D visuals and while Neverway's near monochromatic graphics may put off more people than it attracts the idea of battling to become an immortal herald for a Lovecraftian god is certainly an unusual set-up. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Herdling is out on August 21 but Neverway and a number of the other titles aren't out till 2026 or a purposefully ambiguous 'winter', so there was even less to look forward to in the short term. Puzzle game Is This Seat Taken? was the only shadow drop to get the spotlight, while a free update for Little Kitty, Big City was only promised for sometime later this year. Auto-scrolling roguelike Ball X Pit looked interesting though, and you could definitely see the influences from Vampire Survivors, which the developer openly admitted to. It's out on October 15 on the original Switch but, interestingly, not until 'autumn' on Switch 2 – hinting at the fact that many indie developers have had trouble getting hold of Switch 2 devkits to make their games on. Most of these games will be multiformat, and almost all of them will be on at least PC, although Glaciered was described as a timed Switch exclusive. It looked to be an impressively complex action role-playing game, with an unusual underwater setting. It's down for 'winter 2025', which technically should only mean December. That was the closest the Direct came to having a mic drop moment and yet it hid what was, for us, the most exciting news of the day, in a brief montage right at the end. In amongst new titles like Winter Burrow and Strange Antiquities was confirmation that two of the best games of 2024 are now coming to Switch. More Trending UFO 50 is an amazing compilation of 50 completely different games, many by different developers, while Caves Of Qud is an insanely complex role-playing game that was literally 15 years in the making. Caves Of Qud is out in 'winter 2025', while UFO 50 is out today. It's a real shame more time wasn't spent on promoting it, as surely that was the whole point of the Direct. Instead, we imagine most people will have completely missed it and/or have no idea what it is. It has a 91 on Metacritic though and we gave it 9/10 on PC, so we really do advise you give it a try. As we write this it's not yet on the eShop, so we don't know how much it is, but it was £20.99 on PC. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter.
