Peter Andre, 52, reveals downside to age gap relationship with wife Emily, 35
Peter Andre has defended the 16-year age gap in his relationship with wife Emily MacDonagh – but one incident that showed their generational gap still makes them laugh. The musician and TV star, 52, married doctor Emily, 35, in 2015, soon after welcoming children Amelia, 11, Theo, nine, and one-year-old Arabella. Peter also has two children, Junior, 19, and Princess, 17, with former wife Katie Price. Peter and Emily have experienced some backlash against their 16-year age gap, which the I'm A Celebrity contestant defended in a new interview. In his column for New! magazine, Peter discussed Stephen Fry, 67, speaking about the age gap in his marriage with Elliott Spencer, 38, and how Peter and Emily's age difference 'works' for them. 'It all depends on the relationship, how the partners are with each other, and how they view things, I think. There's a 16-year gap between me and Emily, and it really works for us,' he wrote. However, he did muse over one incident where their generational gap was very noticeable. 'There's one thing we do laugh about, though… We were at the Pride of Britain awards one year and Jon Bon Jovi came over to chat. I've met him many times over the years and he's a lovely person,' he continued. After the introduction, Peter was shocked to discover Emily had no idea who the legendary rock star was, asking her husband 'What's a Bon Jovi?' 'We laughed about that a lot afterwards! It's in those moments we may realise the age gap – usually with music and films – but in general, we love the same things. I think it's what works for you in a relationship. Who are we to judge?' he said. Peter, who is currently on screens in controversial thriller comedy Jafaican, met Emily in 2012, with them tying the knot three years later. He previously discussed not opting for a pre-nuptial agreement before tying the knot, saying: 'I think it does depend on upbringing. So some cultures think that you should always keep your own money, some think you should all be together. 'But as you grow older, you start to figure it out yourself. I know with Emily at the start I had different views to what I've got now. I mean, we don't have a prenup. We've got children together.' More Trending Last year, Peter said he and Emily were 'pretty sure' Arabella would be their last child, with the singer speaking out numerous times about the prospect of having a vasectomy. 'I appeared on Loose Women last week to promote the Frankie Valli tour and one of the topics we discussed is whether a man should get a vasectomy,' he wrote back in February. 'Having children is a big decision. We frequently expect the woman to have to find a way and take measures not to become pregnant, but actually I realise that us men have a responsibility too. 'The problem is, like many, I'm a bit scared of having that kind of procedure. I know, call me a wimp. Who knows? Never say never, I guess.' Got a story? Katie Price shares Harvey's 'sad' Peter Andre wish before tragic health update
When Peter Andre tied the knot with Katie Price, he vowed to be a father figure to Harvey and even tried to adopt him, much to the fury of his biological dad Dwight Yorke Harvey Price will always hold a special place in Peter Andre 's heart. The Australian singer first met Katie Price in 2004 when they both starred on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!. Their whirlwind jungle romance quickly blossomed into a real-life love story, with the pair marrying less than a year later. At the time, Katie was already mum to Harvey — her son with footballer Dwight Yorke — before she and Peter welcomed two more children together, Junior and Princess. There was even talk of Peter adopting Harvey, a move that reportedly upset Dwight. Reflecting on those early years in a recent interview, Peter spoke fondly about family life, recalling the chaos of 'changing six sets of nappies,' a nod to his hands-on role during Harvey's younger days. READ MORE: Katie Price shares 'heartbreaking' update on Harvey amid 'life-threatening' health woes When Peter married Katie in 2005, he vowed to be the dad that Harvey didn't have. In 2009, he told the Daily Mail: "I have been a real father of Harvey and he calls me Daddy. I guess that sticks in Dwight's throat." As the years passed, Peter would post happy birthday messages for Harvey online, writing on his 15th birthday on Twitter: "Happy birthday to a very special boy. Hope you like your prezzies." After he separated from Katie, Pete shared how their special bond continued and said he would always have love for Harvey. He wrote in his New! magazine column in 2017: "There have been a few times recently where he's been to my house and I've been to his. Harvey will always be special to me and I just want him to be happy. He's a great kid!" Pete also shared in his column: "He's such a good-hearted boy, I see him a bit more now, which is amazing. He's just the best, I love him. There's always room for Harvey at our house. I always saw him as my own. There's a special place in my heart for him - he's very important to me and he's always welcome." But according to Katie, as the years rolled by, the Mysterious Girl singer saw less of Harvey. In her 2017 book, Katie Price: Harvey and Me, she wrote: "The split from Pete really upset Harvey. It must have been frustrating for him at the time because he couldn't express how he felt. But now he can and he remembers a lot more than you'd think. It's really sad." She continued: "I began to notice a change in Harvey, I'd say things like, 'Do you want to go see Daddy Peter today?' and he'd shout, 'No!' So then I'd be like, 'But he has a cake waiting for you'. But he wasn't interested and he'd start kicking off, it's probably because the visits were starting to fizzle out and Harvey could sense that." But, she added: "Whenever Harvey saw Peter, he wanted to play a clip of the couple singing A Whole New World. Every single time, I want the ground to swallow me up. It's bad enough having to listen back to it, never mind haven't to listen back to it standing next to Pete!" It comes after Katie shared her heartbreak over the fact her eldest child, Harvey, has seen his weight increase to dangerous levels. Throughout his life, Harvey has battled health issues - including a condition called Prader-Willi syndrome, which provokes a constant feeling of hunger. Speaking on Snapchat, the OnlyFans content creator said: 'I'm so heartbroken and gutted that his weight is just going up. I just googled it in stones, 188kg is just a few kg of being 30 stone. 'It's so life-threatening now, I'm still waiting for the doctors to get back to me starting on the mounjaro and his journey to a healthy life.' She continued: 'It's so sad his quality of life at the moment where he's so big, he just can't really do much. It's just another thing I have to deal with because he's at high risk of having a heart attack, he struggles to put his trainers or struggles to walk anywhere but I love him and I'm going to help him through this."
