Derby and Epsom tips and best bets as Ballydoyle ace fancied for Classic triumph

Daily Record tipster Garry Owen has you covered for Derby day at Epsom Bermuda Longtail (1:00) can soar for Andrew Balding in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes. The filly opened her account with an impressive defeat of Dash Of Azure at Kempton. ‌ She stayed a mile well when second to Glittering Surf up in class on her return there. ‌ The bay raised her game again when edged out by Kon Tiki in Listed Company at York. The three-year-old was slightly unlucky so she can gain compensation slightly up in trip. Balding can also claim the Northern Dancer Handicap with Candyman Stan (4:15). The four-year-old developed into a reasonable performer over middle distances last year. The gelding showed a liking for undulating tracks when slamming Annexation at Brighton. He handled the similar terrain at Lingfield just as well when cosily denying Charlie's Choice. ‌ He is tailor-made for the demands of Epsom so he can make light of a reasonable 5lb hike. Docklands (1:35) can land the odds for Harry Eustace in the Betfred Diomed Stakes. The gelding hit new heights when pipping New Endeavour in the 2023 Britannia at Ascot. ‌ He put in his best shift since when second to Charyn in the following season's QEII there. Not as good after, bay began this term with a near-miss to Sardinian Warrior at that track. That is terrific form so the five-year-old can put that run to good use in another hot event. ‌ Mademoiselle (2:10) can turn on the style for George Scott in the Three-Year-Old Dash. The sprinter built on some solid efforts when brushing aside Bella Love in a Thirsk maiden. ‌ She kept up the good work with a game defeat of Nightbird in a trappy novice at Southwell. The filly was even better when narrowly denied by Ruby's Profit on her return at Goodwood. The Team Amo raider should be primed so she can turn the tables on her foe at these weights. ‌ Clarendon House (2:45) can make his class tell for Robert Cowell in the Epsom Dash. The gelding recorded another personal best when routing Erosandpsyche in a Cork Listed event. The seven-year-old then struggled to match that performance with some lesser form up in class. ‌ However, he hit back when comfortably denying Marshman back in a Listed event at Southwell. The bay was as good as ever when third to Rumstar in the Group 3 Palace House at Newmarket. The speedster remains on song so he can shrug-off a welter-burden back in handicap company. ‌ War Hawk (5:00) can swoop for Team Crisford in the competitive Lester Piggott Handicap. The gelding benefited from stepping up to 1m 2f when hosing up from Bownder at Lingfield. Lacklustre at Nottingham, he returned to form with a superb second to Gunship at Newcastle. ‌ The bay didn't mind switching back to turn when hacking up from Magellan Cloud at Chester. The three-year-old scored with plenty in hand so he can land a better event for his in-form yard. Circe (5:40) looks absolutely spell-binding for Richard Hannon in the closing Tokyo Trophy. ‌ The filly go her act together when second to Cruyff Turn over seven furlongs at Doncaster. She continued her revival when just denying Santa Savana dropped in trip at Newmarket. The four-year-old raised her game again with a game defeat of Change Sings at Windsor. ‌ Circe remains in peak form so she can defy a fair 4lb rise for her thriving connections. 1:00 BERMUDA LONGTAIL ‌ 1:35 DOCKLANDS 2:10 MADEMOISELLE 2:45 CLARENDON HOUSE ‌ 3:30 DELACROIX (NAP) 4:15 CANDYMAN STAN 5:00 WAR HAWK 5:40 CIRCE

Regan Bayliss bullish New Endeavour can break through in Gosford Gold Cup

Jockey Regan Bayliss senses he might be on the right horse at the right time when New Endeavour tackles the Listed $300,000 Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) at Gosford on Saturday. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott -trained New Endeavour came to Australia to race in the spring of 2023 and is yet to win in Australia despite several stakes placings. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The son of New Bay has had a strong build-up for the Gosford Cup with placings in both the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) and Group 3 JRA Plate (2000m). Bayliss is confident he's now ready to peak. 'I think this race really set up and presents perfectly for him,' he said. 'He is a horse that hasn't won in Australia yet but he's run some cracking races. 'He always comes good around this time of year. 'Obviously this time last year he only just got beat in a Doomben Cup over a similar trip so I think this race is perfect for him.' New Endeavour is the $3.90 outright favourite for the Gosford Gold Cup from stablemate Les Vampires ($4.20) and 2024 Gosford Gold Cup winner Hezashocka ($4.40). He should get a draw and barrier to suit this weekend. 'He is the sort of horse that does love a bit of give out of the ground which he does get on Saturday,' Bayliss said. 'He has drawn a lovely barrier (two) and I think he can go close to winning. 'I will just get him nice and comfy in the first four, switch him off for the middle half of the race and he will look the winner at some stage.' While Bayliss has never had a race ride on New Endeavour, it's fair to say the Group 1-winning hoop knows plenty about the Tulloch Lodge galloper. 'I have never ridden him on raceday but I would have ridden him about 30 or 40 times in trackwork,' Bayliss said. 'I know the horse very well and I think I am getting on him at the right time.' New Endeavour holds a nomination for the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) in two weeks' time where he is currently a $51 outsider in betting. The gelding finished runner-up to Bois D'argent in the same game last year. Bayliss was set to ride Infancy in the Takeover Target Stakes but trainer Kris Lees has decided to head to Queensland with the in-form mare instead to tackle the Listed Australian Turf Club Trophy (1200m). He will pilot a colt who could also find himself in Queensland when he partners the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Chicama in the Ortus Financial 2YO Handicap (1200m). Chicama holds nominations for both the Group 2 BRC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 JJ Atkins Stakes (1600m) during the winter carnival. The son of Written Tycoon is still chasing a maiden victory but comes into Saturday's test in good form after finishing third behind subsequent Saturday city winner Grand Eagle in an 1100m event at Hawkesbury last month. 'I love this colt,' Bayliss said. 'It was a slick race at Hawkesbury and he was ridden a bit quiet that day. 'He hit the line extremely well and second-up, up to the 1200m and he can be ridden a lot more positively from the barrier. 'He is a horse with a very bright future and if he can get the job done on Saturday, he is a horse than can head to Queensland for those better races.' Chicama is a $5 chance in a race where Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou's Sequista is the clear $2.15 favourite. With Les Vampires scratched from the $500,000 The Coast to run in the Cup, Bayliss won't have a ride in the day's main event. He kicks off his day aboard the Wayne Seelin-trained Apache Breeze in the Gosford IT Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap (1200m).
