Stamatelopoulos ready to make up for lost time
Apostolos Stamatelopoulos hopes his first goal in seven months is a sign of better things to come as the Australian striker looks to put an injury-ravaged first season at Motherwell behind was the Steelmen's marquee signing last summer, arriving from Newcastle Jets on a three-year deal, but tore a thigh muscle on his first then suffered a calf injury in December after scoring his fifth goal of the season against Rangers and was out until March - before his comeback hopes were scuppered as a training-ground shot broke his 26-year-old is up and running in the new campaign, netting in the opener in the 3-0 midweek win over Morton that secured Motherwell's Premier Sports Cup progress, and said: "The whole of last season was pretty tough."There was a little bit of a run of games where I thought, okay, I'm starting to feel like myself again and then obviously I got injured again."It's the first time that's happened in my career so it's taken a bit of adjusting to get back to that."I've had injuries before, but I've only been max eight weeks out. I've only had two before the last season, two big ones in the six years, seven years that I've played professional football."So, it's definitely different from anything that I've been used to, but I feel like I'm getting there every day, slowly, slowly."So hopefully by the time the season comes, I'm ready to go. I mean, that was the first time I played 90, so I started cramping towards the end, but the body's getting there.""Once that goal went in, it was just a massive sigh of relief after so long. Getting my first one and thankfully it happened before the season started."

Versatile Kiwi Ingham can add polish to more than just Sabah's defence
KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah's new Kiwi defender Dane Ingham intends to make his first venture into South-East Asian football a memorable one. The 26 year old, who is Australian-born but represents the New Zealand national team, sees the Malaysian Super League as a great opportunity to challenge himself and make a mark on new territory. ''Joining Sabah provides a new phase in my career and represents opportunities, and I'm quite excited to start this new season as this the first time I get to test my abilities in South-East Asia,'' said Ingham. Having previously played for A-League club Newcastle Jets, Ingham hopes that his presence in Sabah will help to strengthen the team's defence as he is aware that other clubs have dangerous strikers. ''The other clubs in the Super League are of top quality and I don't want to underestimate their abilities.'' Moreover, Ingham describes himself as a versatile player by being able to contribute to the forward line and assist in scoring for the team despite being a defender. ''Whatever it takes, I want to give my best to help the team without missing any games, and if necessary, I have no problem playing up front and assist in scoring. 'I'm a player who never gives up and I will try my best to give positive energy to my teammates,'' he added. Sabah's main aim this year is to create surprises, especially after they impressed last season by finishing third in the Super League with 40 points. The last time the Rhinos won the Super League was back in 1996.

Stamatelopoulos ready to make mark at Motherwell after injury issues
Motherwell striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos is looking to make up for lost time after netting his first goal in seven months. The Australian bundled home Motherwell's opener against Morton on Tuesday as a 3-0 win sealed their place in Premier Sports Cup round two. Stamatelopoulos was Motherwell's big-money signing last summer when he moved from Newcastle Jets but the centre-forward tore a thigh muscle on his first start. After hitting his fifth goal of the season against Rangers on December 29, he suffered a calf injury that sidelined him until March – only for a training-ground shot to shatter his wrist before he could make his comeback. 'It's definitely been tough,' said the 26-year-old, who became a father immediately before moving to Scotland. 'I mean, the whole of last season, I would have said, was pretty tough. There was a little bit of run of games where I thought, okay, I'm starting to feel like myself again. And then obviously I got injured again. 'It's the first time that's happened in my career so it's taken a bit of adjusting to get back to that. 'I've had injuries before, but I've only been max eight weeks out. I've only had two before the last season, two big ones in the six years, seven years that I've played professional football. 'So, it's definitely different from anything that I've been used to, but I feel like I'm getting there every day, slowly, slowly. 'So hopefully by the time the season comes, I'm ready to go. I mean, that was the first time I played 90, so I started cramping towards the end, but the body's getting there.' Stamatelopoulos lapped up the chance to net on the rebound from a yard out and is excited about the opportunity to play in Jens Berthel Askou's side, given the creative players that have arrived and the new manager's commitment to getting men forward. 'I mean, no one's really going to remember in six months' time how it went in,' he said of his goal. 'I've just got to live around the box. I feel like my movement was decent, could be a little bit sharper, but that's what I live for in the box. 'Once that went in, it was just like a massive side relief after so long. Getting my first one and thankfully it happened before the season started. 'There were a few times where I gambled the wrong way. And if I'd made a different run, I would have had another couple of tap-ins. 'So, it's just finding that partnership, that relationship with team-mates, knowing what they want to do in certain situations, and then more goals will come for sure.' Dundee players 'very positive' about Pressley, says Shaughnessy
Joe Shaughnessy insists his former Dundee team-mates are "very positive" about working under Steven Pressley, despite the head coach's difficult start at Dens Park. Saturday's League Cup group defeat at Alloa was a second straight loss to lower-league opposition. Many fans were against the appointment of Pressley, who is now facing added pressure from the support after a challenging start to his reign. But centre-back Shaughnessy, who left Dens this summer to sign for Newcastle Jets in Australia, says the Dundee boss is making a good impression on the squad. "I've spoken to a few of the players and they are very positive about it all," the 33-year-old told BBC Sportsound. "They're enjoying working with him. He's trying to get his idea across. When I talk to Simon Murray and some of the other lads, they enjoy the training and they are being worked hard. "The fans jumped on him saying he's not going to win titles or whatever, but the players are enjoying what he's come in and started doing. "They are onside and trying to build towards something. Hopefully it happens sooner rather than later." Shaughnessy added that any talk of sacking Pressley based on the League Cup group results is "very harsh".
