Carl is thrilled with strength of North Wales Crusaders
North Wales Crusaders sit at the top of the League One rankings ahead of Sunday's trip to Keighley Cougars, who are still seeking a first triumph of the campaign. A number of fringe players stepped up during last week's 74-0 success over Newcastle Thunder and head coach Forster says he has plenty of things to mull over ahead of the next game. He told Cru TV: 'I'm a coach that's going to have a lot of selection headaches and, you know, whatever 17 goes against Keighley, there'll be a couple of lads that probably don't deserve to be left out. 'But, ultimately, you know, I've got a great 21, 22-man squad at the minute that are fit and I've only got 17 players that I can pick. 'So, obviously, you look at people we had on the side-lines. I think people forget that. 'You've got your (Jamie) Dallimores, Pat Ah Vans. We've got multiple lads, Olly Davies, that are close to being fit and close to getting back in, and looking forward to the next few weeks.'

Top spot for Crusaders on the back of a home triumph
Carl Forster's side knew victory at home to Newcastle Thunder would take them back into pole position in League One and a 74-0 success did the job to move them above Workington Town and Midlands Hurricanes. North Wales got off to a superb start and they had the lead as early as the third minute. After taking possession in his own half, Lloyd Roby broke through the Newcastle defensive line and managed to grab the opening try in the corner. Things got even better for North Wales in the 14th minute when Toby Hughes grabbed the next score, which was converted by Jordy Gibson. Then, in the 20th minute, Crusaders stretched their lead out to 16 points. Sam Wilde claimed the third try and Gibson duly added the extras. Six minutes later and Cru had another try. Despite being under pressure, Hughes managed to spot a gap for his second score of the afternoon. By half-time, North Wales had built-up a healthy 36-0 advantage. Further tries were supplied by Ollie Brookes, Shaun Costello and Josh Eaves, two of which were converted by Gibson. Brookes added two tries early in the second half to complete his hat-trick and further scores quickly came from Paddy Jones, Eaves and Roby as Cru ran riot. In the last 10 minutes, Brookes added his fourth of the contest and Jack Houghton scored the last try three minutes from time. Gibson added the extras to five of the second half tries.

Cornwall beat Newcastle Thunder for first win of 2025
Cornwall earned their first League One win of the season as they beat winless Newcastle Thunder 32-22 in Penryn. The win moves the Choughs up to seventh in the table and ends a three-game losing run in all competitions since the start of the season. Thunder took an early lead before Henry Symons levelled in the 14th minute. He got his second try eight minutes later but Sam Whinney and Nathan Conroy crossed to give the hosts a 20-6 lead at the break. Bradley Llewellyn and Kye Jacobsen added further tries in the opening 15 minutes of the second half as Cornwall led 32-6. Newcastle scored three late tries to make the scoreline respectable but could not haul in the hosts. "No disrespect to Newcastle, it's one that we're supposed to win and that can bring its challenges for a young team," head coach Mike Abbott told BBC Radio Cornwall. "But I thought we went about it really well, I thought our first half was really, really good, the way we built pressure "We were really professional the way we went about it and I'm really pleased with that. "The chat in the week was that the game might not go our way, we might do all these things we've said we'd do but then they could score first or it could be 0-0 after 20-odd minutes. "But after they scored I just hoped that we could go back to what we spoke about and what we would do if this did happen and we did. "I thought we just kicked on again, kicked them into a corner, our defence ramped up and we just built pressure on them, forced errors and then off the back of that we scored and put some quick tries together which was really, really good."
