Martindale hopes fans come out in force to back his men
The Lions manager told a media briefing: 'I think they (the fans) will come (in big numbers). They normally do for big games, they travel well for the big games and the support is there as well for the big games. I am pretty hopeful there. 'The main stand holds roughly 2,200 I will be hoping that will be as near capacity as possible. I think Falkirk will travel well also.' The match comes before a tough run for the West Lothian club who then host Hibs on Sunday, August 17, in the second round of the Premier Sports Cup (15.00) followed by a trip to champions Celtic on Saturday, August 23 (15.00) and a visit from Hearts on Saturday, August 30 (15.00). That is followed by a trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen on Saturday, September 13 (15.00) before a visit by Rangers on Saturday, September 27 (15.00). Martindale believes that every fixture in the William Hill Premiership is a 'big game' and was asked about building momentum. He said: 'For me, naturally that is what you want to do, but being very pragmatic, that is probably not going to happen. 'So, we are going to approach this season a little bit differently from the previous season. We had some great runs last year, this year is more about individualising every game. 'I don't want to be talking about you have not won in four, you have not won in five, that is going to be a scenario that is going to rear its head at some point.' He will be taking one game at a time and trying to pick up points. The Lions manager added: 'You will maybe go on a run, but it is not going to be the topic in my conversation with the players.' Eyeing Saturday's game, it would, he argued, be no surprise if Falkirk win or if Livingston take the points at the Home of the Set Fare Stadium (kick-off 15.00). He added: 'We managed to came out on top last year, but I am sure that will be motivation for the Falkirk players. I caveat that by saying there was nothing in the game, a moment in the game.' Finally, the Livi boss said: 'The boys have trained well (this week), no complaints in that front.' FAN ZONE: Livi fans in the main stand at the Home of the Set Fare Arena earlier this season. Scotland win against France at Peffermill
Scotland's senior women's hockey team edged France in a training game at Edinburgh's Peffermill Playing Fields in front of an encouraging crowd. The 2-1 victory was hard-fought and the game is a prelude to a Test double-header at the same venue on Saturday (11.30) and Sunday (11.15) against the same side. The Scots edged ahead in a scrappy game in the first half, which they largely dominated, from a penalty corner converted by Amy Costello, but France levelled seconds from half-time, a real blow. The visitors pressed Scotland in the opening minutes of the second-half but Chris Duncan's side gradually won back control and forced a number of penalty corners which they failed to capitalise on. However, Scotland took full advantage of a mistake in the French defence to net the game-winner in the dying minutes, a slack pass finding Scotland skipper Sarah Robertson who fed Fiona Burnet who fired home from close range. The games come as the Tartan Hearts continue their build-up for the EuroHockey Championships in Monchengladbach, Germany, from August 9 to 17. Coach Duncan said it was a good game in which to get the squad up to speed against a side ranked at No 17 in the world, two placed behind Scotland. He felt the Tartan Hearts were a little disjointed in the first-half but the coaching staff made changes in the second which brought the Scots more momentum. Then his squad started to play with more purpose. As to the failure to take their penalty corner opportunities, Duncan said that Scotland did not want to show their total hand and he added: 'We've kept some moves in the bank.' Fisher is top rod at Millhall
Millhall Reservoir bosses confirmed mixed results at the loch, some anglers had a field day while others struggled for a few fish. Successful tactics ranged from dry flies to diawl bach and buzzer to damsels and other lures and Bill Sutherland confirmed that weed in the loch has 'exploded'. It has restricted fishing to the deeper parts of the water (pictured by Nigel Duncan), but he said there will be a major weed cutting operation in the near future to mitigate this problem. Anglers who have done well at the Polmont-based water included A Burns and B Dewar who returned 14 and 13 fish respectively on FAB and buzzer. T Sharp and R Skillen had seven fish each on dry flies, while W Turnbull and D Frater returned nine fish each, again on dry flies. S Ross managed nine fish on an orange wormit, while J Kelly returned 15 fish, again on dry flies. However, the best return for the week went to M Fisher who had 23 fish on a damsel pattern on an ntermediate line. Nearby, Bowden Springs at Linlithgow have restocked with Tiger and rainbow trout and Linlithgow Loch's top recent rod was Nigel Muckle with 15 fish. Boats are available most days. Allandale Tarn at West Calder closed their bait pond because of the high water temperature but their fly pond is open from 9am to 10.30pm on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday 9am to 8pm. Pottishaw near Whitburn report that Kark Phsteven had nine fish in his session and Morton Fishings have also restocked while Glencorse say they have boats available at the time of writing this. In East Lothian bosses of Newlands Tweeddale say Chris Kerr (Tranent) hooked into ten fish on Fab and buzzer. Finally, the Scottish Canal Championship is on Sunday, June 29 on the Forth and Clyde Canal between Wyndford and Dullatur, fishing 11am to 4pm. Contact Gus Brindle for details on 07812 241816. Gordon looking forward to ‘special' Testimonial game
Craig Gordon celebrates his Testimonial at Heart of Midlothian FC with a match against newly-promoted Sunderland on Saturday, July 26 (3pm), but he stressed that his career is not over yet. The evergreen goalkeeper, who has played in over 200 games for his boyhood heroes, and more than 80 occasions for the Scotland national team, has just signed a one-year extension with the Gorgie club. The 42-year-old club legend said: 'It has been an incredible career when you pause to look back at it, but I do not want to pause and look back at it as is not over yet, the things I have managed to achieve coming through at Hearts. 'To even get in the first team and be part of it, and move on to play in the Premier League down south it has been a dream. There has been some hard work at times, especially with injuries. 'To be able to do that and still be here and still have another year at Hearts and to have this testimonial is a fantastic thing for my whole family because they are all Jambos. It will be pretty special.' His biggest thrill remains pulling on a Hearts jersey and taking the field for the club and the 6ft 4in hot-stop added: 'Playing for Hearts and playing for Scotland, that was the two things I wanted to do. 'It is brilliant for me, brilliant for my family and I can't wait for Sunderland to come here and have that match.' The club's Scottish Cup win has been the standout moment for Gordon and he added: 'There are a number of Derby matches which have been good and for Hearts to win in the Cup semi-final twice against Hibs has also been memorable, so there are some good moments in there.' Sunderland were a natural choice for the testimonial match, said the goalkeeper and he said: 'I was there five years and playing in that league before such a passionate group of fans. 'I am looking forward to seeing their fans up here. I am delighted they (Sunderland) are back in the Premier League as its been a long time coming. I sat in my living room cheering them on in the play-off final and I was absolutely delighted for them to get there. 'It is a huge club, they deserve to be in the Premier League and I can't wait for the game. I have had a look at some of their pre-season friendly matches and they have a good group (of them). 'Hopefully, we can keep them out and it is going to be a great game, a big test for us as well to have Premier League players come up and we'll see what standard they are. 'Hopefully, we give them a good game and get them ready for the Premier League.' Tickets for the testimonial are now on sale at and supporters can keep up-to-date with all of the latest information on the testimonial at SMILE PLEASE: Craig Gordon poses for some of the media who were at Tynecastle.
