Bypoll: public holiday in Nilambur on June 19
A public holiday has been declared for government offices and educational institutions in the Nilambur Assembly constituency due to the Assembly byelection on June 19. It will be a paid holiday for all institutions under the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881. Elderly people and differently abled persons can ensure voting facilities through the Election Commission's Saksham app. The app is designed to guarantee full participation of the differently abled and the elderly in the election, said Election Commission officials. By downloading and registering the Saksham-ECI app on the mobile from Google Play Store, one can find the polling booths, get information about candidates and voters, ensure wheelchair accessibility for voting, and arrange transportation of differently abled voters in emergencies. One should register in advance through the app using the election ID card number. District Social Justice Officer Sameer Machingal will be responsible for ensuring services to the differently abled. For the visually impaired, Braille script will be available on the voting machine. Voters over 85 years of age and differently abled will also get the opportunity to vote from their homes through home voting. All polling booths in Nilambur will be on the ground floor to help the differently abled. Ramps and wheelchairs will be provided in all polling booths. District Collector V.R. Vinod called upon the elderly and differently abled voters of Nilambur to make use of their franchise to utilise the Saksham mobile app. People can complain about violations of the election code of conduct at the control room at 0483- 2734990. Election Commission has declared dry days in Nilambur on June 19 and 20.

Nilambur bypoll in Kerala: Polling to be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 19
Polling will begin at 7 a.m. and conclude at 6 p.m. for the byelections to the Nilambur Assembly constituency on June 19, Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala) Rathan U. Kelkar said. The notification for the bypoll was issued on Monday. The polled votes will be counted from 8 a.m. on June 23. June 2 is the last date for filing nomination papers. The scrutiny will be held the next day. June 5 is the deadline for withdrawing the nomination papers. All procedures related to the bypoll will be completed by June 25. The randomisation of the electronic voting machines (EVM) will be held on May 31, Mr. Kelkar said. Candidates and political parties can make use of the Suvidha portal ( of the Election Commission of India for filing their applications for approval for rallies, meetings and use of vehicles.

"High command will decide candidate": Congress' VS Joy after EC announces bypolls in Kerala
Malappuram (Kerala) [India], May 25 (ANI): As the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced bye elections to Nilambur Assembly constituency, Malappuram District Congress Committee (DCC) president VS Joy on Sunday said that the candidate will be decided by the party high command. He said that the naming of the candidate was a mere technicality since the atmosphere in Malappuram district was such that anyone who gets nominated could win. 'The high command will decide the candidate. The candidate is merely a technicality. The atmosphere in Malappuram is such that anyone who becomes the candidate will win,' Joy told reporters here. The Nilambur Assembly constituency falls under the Malappuram district of Kerala, where the bypolls are scheduled to be held on June 19, and votes will be counted on June 23. In Kerala, the bye election will be held in Nilambur to fill the post of PV Anvar, an LDF-backed MLA who resigned in January this year. He was appointed Convenor of the Kerala unit of Trinamool Congress (TMC). The Election Commission also announced bye elections in Gujarat, Punjab and West Bengal. Bye election will be held in Gujarat's constituencies Kadi and Visavadar to fill the posts of Karsanbhai Punjabhai Solanki who passed away in February this year and the resignation of Bhayani Bhupendrabhai Gandubhai. In Punjab, the bye election will be held in Ludhiana West to fill the post of Gurpreet Bassi Gogi after his demise their January. The bypolls will be held in West Bengal's Kaliganj to fill the post of Nasiruddin Ahamed who passed away of a cardiac arrest in February this year. The last date for making of nominations is June 2, 2025. The date for the scrutiny of nominations is June 3. The last date for the withdrawal of candidatures in June 5. According to a release issued by the EC, the Commission has decided to use EVMs and VVPATs in the bye election in all the polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMs and VVPATs have been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the poll is conducted smoothly with the help of these machines. (ANI)

Byelection to Nilambur assembly constituency in Kerala on June 19
The keenly awaited byelections to the Nilambur Assembly Constituency in Kerala's Malappuram distriict will be held on June 19, the Election Commission of India announced on Sunday (May 25, 2025). The votes will be counted on June 23. As per the ECI announcement, the notification for the bypoll will be issued on May 26 (Monday). June 2 is the last date for filing nomination papers. The scrutiny of the papers will be held on June 3. June 5 is the deadline for withdrawing the nominations. With the announcement of the poll date, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force in Malappuram district, as per the existing ECI guidelines. The bypoll in the constituency has been necessitated by the resignation of Independent MLA P.V. Anvar. Initially a Left-backed Independent MLA, Mr. Anvar had a falling out with the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front government leading to a high-voltage political drama in the State. He had tendered his resignation on January 13. As per the final electoral roll published by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer - Kerala, the Nilambur Assembly constituency has 2,32,384 voters. This includes 1,18,889 female voters, 1,13,486 male voters and nine third gender voters. Of the total voters, 374 are overseas electors. It had been announced earlier that the constituency would have 263 polling stations, including 59 new ones.

Final electoral roll for Nilambur Assembly constituency has a little over 2.32 lakh voters
The final electoral roll for the Nilambur Assembly constituency, published on Monday ahead of the upcoming byelections, has 2,32,384 voters. The list has 1,18,889 female voters, 1,13,486 male voters and nine third gender voters, Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala) Rathan U. Kelkar said. 'There are 374 overseas electors in the final roll. Notably, the Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) coverage is at 100%, a testament to the efforts towards achieving a pure electoral roll,' Mr. Kelkar said. The bypoll in the constituency has been necessitated by the resignation of Independent MLA P.V. Anvar. The final electoral roll was published following a Special Summary Revision with April 1, 2025, as the qualifying date as per the schedule announced by Election Commission of India (ECI). Sindhu M.P., Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, Nilambur, handed over copies of final electoral roll to the representatives of recognised political parties. 263 polling stations It had been announced earlier that the constituency would have 263 polling stations, including 59 new ones. The electoral roll revision was conducted strictly in line with ECI guidelines and by following relevant Acts and Rules. In all, 6082 new electors were added during the revision process, while 2,210 names were deleted after intensive field verification, with active participation from Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of recognised political parties, Mr. Kelkar said.
