Previous govt neglected farmers' welfare, alleges Nimmala
Rajamahendravaram: Water resources minister Dr Nimmala Rama Naidu accused the previous YSRCP government of reducing crucial input subsidies from Rs 20,000 to Rs 16,000 and failing to clear Rs 1,600 crore in pending dues to farmers. He said the neglect of farmer welfare between 2019 and 2024 has now been reversed with the present government's renewed focus on agricultural support. Launching the first phase of the Annadata Sukhibhava-PM Kisan 2025–26 scheme at Kovvur on Saturday, the minister reaffirmed that the government is fulfilling its election promise by extending Rs 20,000 investment assistance to every eligible farmer in three installments. He stated that Rs 7,000 each has already been credited into the bank accounts of 1.14 lakh farmers in East Godavari district, amounting to Rs 79 crore. In Kovvur constituency alone, 14,884 farmers received cheques worth Rs 10.41 crore. He pointed out that under the previous TDP-led regime from 2014 to 2019, several beneficial schemes were initiated, such as soil health cards and farm equipment distribution, but were later ignored by the succeeding government. Despite prevailing economic challenges, the current administration is committed to comprehensive farmer welfare, he asserted. Rama Naidu also announced that tenant farmers will receive their share of support in the second and third phases, due in October and January. Further, Rs 350 crore has been sanctioned for repairs to major irrigation projects, and a new lift irrigation scheme will be implemented to address flooding and water access issues in Dowleswaram and Daravaram areas. Kovvur MLA Muppidi Venkateswara Rao, who presided over the event, clarified that the Rs 20,000 support package includes Rs 6,000 under the PM-Kisan scheme and Rs 14,000 from the state government. He reiterated that the current government has cleared all pending farmer dues left unpaid by the previous regime. District collector P Prashanthi an others were present.

Krishna river board to release 4tmc ft water to Andhra Pradesh, 10tmc ft for Telangana
Vijayawada: After elaborating discussions with both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana govts, the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has decided to release water to meet the drinking water needs in both the Telugu states. However, AP will get just 4tmc ft of water against its indent for release of 10tmc ft of water. Interestingly, Telangana is getting its full quota of 10.26tmc ft as per its indent. In fact, Telangana raised its objection to release 10tmc ft of water to AP in view of the shortage of water in both the major inter-state projects. The three-member committee of KRMB studied the water availability in both Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar projects and lowered the minimum draw down level (MDDL) in Nagarjuna Sagar to 505ft from the 510ft, while maintaining the MDDL at 800ft in Srisailam project in view of the requirements. The team found about 8tmc water available in Srisailam and another 12.79tmc in Nagarjuna Sagar at MDDL. Though 21.21tmc water is available in two projects, 4tmc have been deducted as evaporation loss and another 2tmc ft of water kept was reserve cushion to meet emergency needs. Subsequently, the three-men committee made recommendation to give 4tmc to AP and 10.26 tmc to Telangana from the available pool of 14.2tmc. Minister promises swift completion of Handri-Neeva works
Thamballapalle(annamayya dist): Minister for Irrigation Nimmala Rama Naidu said that transforming Rayalaseema into a region of prosperity is the top priority of the State government, and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan are working with that vision in mind. The minister was speaking after inspecting the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) works at Dommanabavi in Thamballapalle constituency of Annamayya district on Friday. Accompanied by local MLA Shahjahan Basha, irrigation officials, engineers, and TDP leaders, Rama Naidu performed a ceremonial ground-breaking (bhumi puja) for the pending works and issued directives to expedite the construction. Speaking to the media, the minister emphasised that the Chandrababu Naidu-led government is giving the highest importance to irrigation. 'We are committed to completing all irrigation projects in full scale to provide both drinking and irrigation water to the people,' he said. He pointed out that while the previous TDP government had completed nearly 90 percent of the Handri-Neeva works, the remaining 10 percent was left unfinished by the former administration, leading to dry canals and unused infrastructure. 'Due to negligence, not a drop of water is flowing in the canals today,' he remarked. The minister also criticised the past government's alleged mismanagement of sand at the summer storage points, which he said led to indiscriminate excavation and depletion. He directed officials to complete pending works at the earliest, particularly before the upcoming monsoon. The government plans to desilt tanks and restore their storage capacity to ensure rainwater can be effectively stored. 'As per the Chief Minister's instructions, we are focusing on delivering water to the last acre of farmland in Rayalaseema. This includes both drinking and irrigation water across the final reaches of the ayacut areas,' Rama Naidu added. Officials of the irrigation department including SEs, EEs, and AEs, along with public representatives, local TDP and Jana Sena leaders, and several party workers were present.
