Japanese Man Arrested After Attempting To Burn Down Tokyo Go-Kart Business

A 28-year-old Japanese man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of attempted arson after he tried to set fire to the property of a go-karting company, causing damage to three vehicles. The suspect, Yuga Matsuoka, admitted to the crime, saying that the noise of the engines 'stressed' him out. He allegedly set fire to a container used for industrial waste on the premises. The flames then spread to three parked go-karts. The incident occurred in the early hours of June 21. Matsuoka had reportedly just finished his shift, working in the warehouse next door. Fortunately, nobody was inside the building at the time. A security guard patrolling the area called the emergency services after he noticed the fire. It was quickly extinguished. As well as the damage to the go-karts, nearby walls were also burned. List of Contents: Note Sent to Go-Karting Company a Month Before Arson Attack A Hit with Tourists, a Menace to Locals Related Posts Note Sent to Go-Karting Company a Month Before Arson Attack According to NHK , the company, which owns around 70 go-karts, received a letter in English in May from someone threatening to 'set karts aflame if engines are turned on after tomorrow.' The note was placed on top of one of the parked vehicles. Police are now investigating whether the letter is linked to the arson attack. Street karting tours first appeared in Tokyo around 2011 and quickly became popular with tourists looking for a unique way to see the city. The first company, MariCar, was officially founded in 2015. Two years later, Nintendo filed a lawsuit for intellectual property infringement against MariCar, which lent character costumes such as Mario, Peach and Luigi to its customers. It was forced to pay ¥50 million in damages. A Hit With Tourists, a Menace to Locals The firm ceased using Nintendo-themed costumes and rebranded as Street Kart. Today, there are several go-karting companies offering tours in Tokyo. Though a big hit with tourists, they are generally unpopular with locals in the city due to several significant concerns. These include safety issues, disruption to traffic and noise disturbances. Between January and August last year, there were seven personal injury accidents and 18 property damage accidents involving go-karts. Last October, a company was charged by the police for renting out karts to unlicensed foreign tourists and letting them drive on public roads. Target Confirms Launch Day Switch 2 Stock, But Prepare to Line Up Early

Just days after YouTuber Jake Randall tipped a restock of Nintendo Switch 2 at Target, the retailer has officially confirmed availability. When preorders went live for Target's online store on April 24, the stock sold out in just two hours, according to a press release. Now, a new batch of standalone Switch 2 consoles and the Switch 2 + Mario Kart bundle will be available at physical stores on June 5 and on on June 6. At select stores, Target will also create a dedicated Nintendo-themed space within the electronics section. But don't expect to just wander in. Target requests that customers line up outside local stores before business hours begin on June 5. The team at the store will distribute a limited number of tickets, either physical or digital, to reserve your purchase. When it's your turn, you'll be directed to the electronics section, where you can purchase just one item—either the standalone Switch 2 or the Mario Kart bundle. Online sales will begin early morning on June 6, and will continue until Target sells out. Target hasn't confirmed how many units it has available, but Randall's leak suggested there would be 40-60 units at each store. So, if you want one, plan to line up early. The dedicated Nintendo area in-store will also be selling additional Nintendo software, amiibo, accessories, and merchandise. The merch starts at $20, and it includes Nintendo-themed stainless steel tumblers, apparel, toys, collectibles, and more. 'At Target, we don't just launch products — we create moments,' says Cassandra Jones, Target's SVP of merchandising. 'The Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the most anticipated gaming releases in years, and we're making it unforgettable for our guests in a uniquely Target way.' If you can't get a Switch 2 from Target on launch day, Staples, GameStop, Best Buy, and Costco are expected to have additional stock. Also, if you have preordered a Switch 2, you need to recheck your order. Some users are seeing their purchases get canceled without reason.

After 20 years, a second Nintendo Store is set to open in the US this May

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. For 20 years, Nintendo has operated just one first-party retailer in the US, but now the Nintendo Store in New York City is about be joined by a second location in San Francisco this May. Nintendo San Francisco will celebrate its grand opening on May 15 in Union Square at 331 Powell Street. Nintendo announced plans for this location last year, but it's only now that we're getting an official opening date. In a press release, Nintendo says that store will offer "game systems and games" alongside "a unique shopping experience filled with Nintendo's characters, worlds and exclusive products including accessories, apparel, home goods and souvenirs available only at this location." The NYC location offers a few museum displays, and it was notably where the iconic Gulf War Game Boy was displayed for many years. The NYC store is primarily a retail location, of course, offering unique merch, but it's become something of a mecca for Nintendo fans over the decades. You may recall the viral clips of people at Nintendo NYC gathering to scream and cheer for new Super Smash Bros. reveals, for example. It's probably safe to expect a similar experience from the San Francisco location, and if you want to see it yourself, the company's running a sweepstakes for a three-night vacation in the city around the store's opening. You can head to the official site for details on that. Nintendo NYC actually opened back in 2001 as The Pokemon Center, but was rebranded as a broader Nintendo-themed location – then called Nintendo World – in 2005. It was the only Nintendo Store in the world until 2019, when one opened in Tokyo. Two more Nintendo Stores quickly sprouted in Japan – Osaka in 2022 and Kyoto in 2023 – but it's only now that the chain is expanding in the US. Of course, a new place to buy Nintendo stuff takes on a little extra meaning this year as we're all looking toward the launch of Switch 2. I'm not sure either Nintendo Store will be the best place to pick up a Switch 2, but I am sure you can count on a pretty unique experience at both locations when the console's finally released. A new Nintendo Switch 2 filing suggests there are going to be plenty more Amiibo to collect.

Lego's New Mario Set Is The Best One Yet

Mamma mia, Mario, your new Mario Kart Lego set looks wonderful! And the large set, which was just officially revealed by Lego after a few leaks, might just be the best Nintendo-themed build yet! On March 10, aka Mario Day (because Mar 10 looks like Mario, get it?), Nintendo and Lego revealed set #72037, Mario Kart, the next big collaboration between the two companies. The large Lego kit is priced at $170 and is made up of over 1,900 pieces. The new build recreates Mario in a go kart and features posable arms. You can pre-order the set starting today and it will be available to buy on May 15. The decorative set is intended for adults and older builders. And it's pretty dang big, too. According to Lego's website, the Mario Kart set is 8.5 inches high, 12.5 inches long and 7.5 inches wide! You are going to need some space to display this bad boy and all his wonderful details, including what appears to be printed face features and a bulbous nose. Seriously, I'm shocked at how perfectly Lego has captured Mario's face, body, and proportions. Lego bricks can make many things, but human-like figures tend to be the trickiest and yet, Mario looks amazing in this new set. In fact, because of how awesome Mario looks as a big brick-built Lego character, I'm just dreaming of a video game that looks like this. It makes me wish Nintendo and Lego would make the plunge and greenlight a Lego Mario video game. Even Bowser looks great as a brick-built character, as seen in his 2022 set. So come on Nintendo. Come on Lego. Make a Lego Mario platformer. Do it you cowards! Do it! . For the latest news, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
