Sudha Murty conferred with Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Foundation Award

Author, philanthropist, and Member of Rajya Sabha, Sudha Murty was on Wednesday conferred with the Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Foundation Award 2025 for her contributions to literature and social service. The award ceremony was held on the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology campus in Bengaluru. N. Vinaya Hegde, president, Nitte Education Trust and Chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University, praised Ms. Murty's service and commitment to rural development, drawing inspiration from K.S. Hegde's legacy. N. Santosh Hegde, former Supreme Court judge and Karnataka Lokayukta, lauded Ms. Murty's work in empowering women and youth. In her acceptance speech, Ms. Murty highlighted the impermanence of material wealth, stressing the enduring impact of social contributions. 'Only the sacrifices we make for society will truly last,' she said. The foundation, established in honour of K.S. Hegde, former Supreme Court judge and Speaker of the Lok Sabha, recognises individuals annually on June 11 for societal contributions.

Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Bengaluru, hosted the IEEE YESIST12 National-level Open House Project Expo-2025, titled 'Kaushalya', on Saturday. Organised by the IEEE Student Branch and Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in collaboration with IEEE Bangalore Section and IEEE CEDA Bangalore Chapter, the event showcased 330 innovative student projects. Neha Wani, executive director and chief engineer, Boeing AI, inaugurated the event, emphasising collaboration, curiosity, and adaptability as vital for inventors, while encouraging a fearless approach to failure in the journey of innovation. Chief guest Sunil Kumar G. from Nokia highlighted sustainability as the driving force behind future innovations. Guest of honor Anish Cheriyan from HARMAN International urged youth to explore ancient Indian technologies. NMIT is among 32 global institutions selected to host YESIST12 prelims.

‘Survekshan 2025' inaugurated at NMIT

BENGALURU The Department of Civil Engineering at the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) hosted its annual national-level technical fest, Survekshan 2025, with a focus on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in civil engineering on Monday. Lt. Col. P.J. Anand Kumar (Retd.), Founder and CEO of Critical AI Pvt. Ltd., the chief guest for the event, delivered the keynote address, emphasising the transformative role. 'Civil engineering, the foundation of civilization for millennia, is undergoing a major shift with the advent of AI,' he said. He highlighted how AI is optimizing project processes, enhancing safety, and promoting sustainability from design to demolition. Underscoring the often-overlooked aspect of demolition, he emphasised, 'Demolition is as crucial as construction. Sustainable practices, now supported by AI, can reduce environmental impact and help engineers make informed decisions.' Chandrashekhar M.S., Vice-President, Epcogen Pvt. Ltd., the Guest of Honor, described Survekshan as a key platform enabling students to assess and enhance their knowledge and skills. H.C. Nagarj, Principal, NMIT, presided over the event.
