Kevin Holland targets seven fights in 2025, still trying to get Colby Covington
NEW ORLEANS – Kevin Holland is confident he can break the UFC record for most fights in a year. Holland (28-13 MMA, 15-10 UFC) competed and won five times in 2020, earning him MMA Junkie's Fighter of the Year. Just over halfway through this year, Holland enters his fourth fight when he takes on Daniel Rodriguez (19-5 MMA, 9-4 UFC) on Saturday's UFC 318 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) main card at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Despite now being at welterweight, Holland plans on distancing himself from the UFC record of five fights in a year, which he's tied for with multiple fighters. "I've got to do seven just to go ahead and top the record," Holland said during Wednesday's media day. "We're four down. I think we're getting Neil Magny after this one since I think he's one of the fellow guys that has five wins in a row in a year, right? So that'll be five, and then we'll go get the fifth win against somebody else. And then – I mean, I can fight a lot to be honest with you, and at 170 pounds I'm learning each time, it's just not that f*cking hard to get to." Holland mapped out how he'd like the rest of his year to look like. "I'd like to fight the week after Noche UFC or two weeks after Noche," Holland said. "I'd like to fight on Noche, but I could fight two weeks after or even a week before. I just want to fight around that time so I can make some money in the (state) of Texas just doing sponsorship stuff. After that, you can give me another one before Thanksgiving, and then give me another one right before Christmas, and that would be a good year." If Holland can cap off a historic year, will he be looking at a title run? "No, I think I'm going to do all that and still trying to be fighting Colby (Covington) next year," Holland said. "When he thought he could fight Paddy (Pimblett), and go down a weight class, he was 100 percent healthy. As soon as they said my name, (his) vaginal muscle tore. So you know how that goes. That sh*t takes him like 8-12 weeks to heal, so not an easy process."

UFC exec Dave Shaw reacts to record-breaking UFC on ESPN 64: 'We've planted our flag'
MEXICO CITY – UFC on ESPN 64 was a record-breaking event for the promotion. The event headlined by Brandon Moreno vs. Steve Erceg at Arena CDMX broke records for the UFC in Mexico as the promotion's highest-grossing event in the country and the highest-grossing event in the arena's history. It was a successful night by many measures, and the promotion hopes to go even bigger when it returns to Mexico on September 13 for the third Noche UFC event, UFC 320 in Guadalajara. The UFC has not made two trips to Mexico in a calendar year in a decade, which is something that excites the UFC executives, including Dave Shaw. 'It's important for our strategy in Mexico and Latin America for us to come more than once,' Shaw told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a post-fight news conference. 'It's also the one-year anniversary of our Performance Institute opening, which is an accolade and an accomplishment that our entire team has been really proud of. 'We've planted our flag. We're here. If anyone was at the opening 12 months ago, and then has returned at any point in the last 12 months, there's been a lot of progress at the PI. … We're thrilled. Two events in Mexico this year, next installment of Noche, as we've talked about, and further success of the UFC Performance Institute here.' For the first time since committing to the Noche UFC branding to celebrate Mexican Independence Day, the promotion will bring the event to Mexico. The first two events took place in Las Vegas, at T-Mobile Arena and Sphere. Arena Guadalajara is a brand new venue in the city that holds up to 20,000 people. Shaw says the promotion is excited to hold an event there early to highlight the fighters from the region. 'Think about it – we've got our 42 events, and our events our pay-per-views and Fight Nights, and we've got all these other brands that sit on top of our events that help exemplify the true state of athleticsm that our athletes bring,' Shaw said. 'Contender Series, Ultimate Fighter, Road to UFC, what we did with Fight Island, and now you've got this franchise brand called Noche. 'Bringing Noche to Mexico for the first time is something that was really important to Dana (White), important to (Craig) Borsari and a number of the other members of our team. So I think to come back and celebrate Mexican culture again on the weekend of Independence Day is really important for us.' For more on the card, visit MMA Junkie's event hub for UFC on ESPN 64.

Noche UFC heads to Mexico for first time as UFC 320 set for Guadalajara
Noche UFC is back – and it's headed to Mexico. The celebratory Mexican Independence Day pay-per-view comes this year in the form of UFC 320. The event will take place Sept. 13 at Arena Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico, the promotion announced during Saturday's UFC on ESPN 64 broadcast. UFC 320 marks the third annual Noche UFC event. The previous two took place in Las Vegas. UFC Fight Night 227 was the inaugural Noche event in 2023. It took place at T-Mobile Arena and was headlined by Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko 2. In 2024, the promotion took Noche UFC to another level. In what remains the only combat sports event held at Sphere in Las Vegas, the promotion put together UFC 306, an all-time spectacle that was headlined by Sean O'Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili. No fights were announced on the broadcast for UFC 320. The promotion only has announced fights officially through the end of May.
