D.C. residents flood social media to counter Trump's crime claims
A new TikTok trend is taking off in D.C. following President Trump's federal takeover, with locals posting their "love letters" to the District. Why it matters: Crime in D.C. has become a national talking point, and some residents are trying to flip the script. The big picture: Trump earlier this week said the District has "been overtaken by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth, drugged-out maniacs and homeless people" — a depiction some locals disagree with. Meanwhile, violent crime is declining in D.C., as are homicides — although the latter is still higher than it was a decade ago. State of play: TikTokers are sharing images of what they love about the city over background audio of Trump's claims that D.C. is teeming with crime. Some X users began posting lists of "Things I'm Actually Scared of as a D.C. Resident," sharing tongue-in-cheek answers like " Exiting Northwest Stadium," " Whitlows" and " middle school tour groups." Meanwhile, some residents made their opinions known offline via protests against Trump's takeover.

🎥 Did Aston Villa man score the perfect pre-season goal?
A lot of people consider what happens in pre-season to be irrelevant. After all, it's not as if results and performances have a bearing on what lies ahead in the forthcoming campaign, but Ezri Konsa offered a compelling counterpoint. Two years ago, the Aston Villa defender produced a barnstorming run and finish to begin their fightback in a friendly with Brentford at Maryland's Northwest Stadium. Unai Emery's side were trailing to Bryan Mbeumo and Josh Dasilva before Konsa's one-man effort set the wheels in motion for three goals in the space of ten minutes. Unfortunately for the Villans, their lead was cancelled out midway through the second half to ensure honours ended even in their six-goal thriller with the Bees. But Konsa can lay claim to one of the greatest ever goals scored in pre-season.. 📸 BERTRAND GUAY - AFP or licensors

NFL Owner Spends Shocking Amount on His Player's Trading Card
NFL Owner Spends Shocking Amount on His Player's Trading Card originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels set records in his historic rookie season. With just weeks to go before his sophomore campaign, a new record has emerged. This time, two dimensionally. Advertisement The quarterback's rookie card was sold for a cool $500,000 at Topps Trade Night this past Saturday. The purchaser? None other than the Commanders' majority owner, Josh Harris. Harris and Daniels were special guests at the event when Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin stood before a large crowd, demanding to see the rarest Daniels card among those in attendance. Josh Roth and Jacob Ramos of the Florida-based Rothcards showed Daniels' 2024 Panini Prizm Black Finite one-of-one card, which they had purchased for somewhere in the neighborhood of $300,000. That is where the negotiations began. With Rubin as the negotiator, Roth and Ramos ultimately agreed to sell the card to Harris for a significantly higher price of half a million dollars and an autographed Daniels jersey, which the 2024 NFL rookie of the year and 2023 Heisman Trophy winner signed immediately. Advertisement 'It was such an experience to be on stage with just everyone. It really happened so fast. Moments like that are timeless,' Ramos said to The card will reportedly be on display at the Commanders' current home, Northwest Stadium, during the 2025 season. If Daniels delivers another season for Washington like he did last year, that card might prove to be just as much of a steal as Daniels has been for the team.
