5-star Michigan football target sets commitment date
The post 5-star Michigan football target sets commitment date appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Michigan football team is hoping to land a commitment from one its top offensive targets, and it won't be long before we hear a decision. Five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell is down to eight schools, and he will announce his commitment on July 5th. Advertisement 'BREAKING: Elite 2026 WR Calvin Russell will announce his Commitment July 5th between these 8 Schools, he tells me for @On3Recruits,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'5 195 WR from Opa Locka, FL is ranked as the No. 4 WR in the '26 Class (per On3 Industry).' Calvin Russell will choose between Michigan, Miami, Oregon, Florida State, Florida, LSU, North Carolina and Syracuse. Russell is a five-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #21 player in the 2026 class, the #3 WR and the #2 player in the state of Florida. Russell currently attends Northwestern High School in Miami, FL. The Hurricanes will be a tough team for Michigan to beat here. 'Hulking wide receiver with above-the-rim athleticism that makes him a uniquely dangerous target, especially down in the red zone,' Russell's scouting report reads. 'Owns more of a slender build, but has measured over 6-foot-5 multiple times and is blessed with a near 6-foot-10 wingspan. Isn't exactly the most polished route runner at this stage, but creates separation with unexpected suddenness for such a longer strider. Superb body control tends to create even more of a disadvantage for defensive backs as he wins 50-50 battles with timing and positioning.' Advertisement If Michigan does land a commitment from Russell, there is a chance that he plays basketball for the Wolverines as well. 'Not going to outrun every tackle, but is quick to hit the gas and can make some dynamic cuts in traffic,' the scouting report continues. 'Spent much of freshman and sophomore seasons repping as a run first-quarterback out of necessity before settling in as a must-look option in Year 3 for a storied Miami Northwestern program that captured a 3A championship. Will need to add some body armour to a rather wiry frame in hopes of improving play strength and buy into the process at the school of his choice, but should be viewed as a potential impact pass catcher for a College Football Playoff contender that can be positioned all around the field in hopes of creating mismatches. One of those good-at-everything athletes that could legitimately play two spots in college as he's also being recruited by basketball high majors.' Calvin Russell is one of the best WRs in the 2026 class, and the Michigan football team needs WRs. This would be a massive get.

SEC Powerhouse Emerges As Leader For Nation's No. 1 DL
SEC Powerhouse Emerges As Leader For Nation's No. 1 DL originally appeared on Athlon Sports. A leader has emerged for class of 2026 four-star defensive lineman James Johnson as he takes multiple official visits over the summer. Advertisement Johnson (6-foot-2.5, 285 pounds) plays for Northwestern High School in Cape Coral, Florida. The highly-coveted recruit ranks as the No. 1 defensive lineman, the No. 3 player in the state and the No. 15 recruit overall in his class (On3). Despite missing time with a knee injury, Johnson posted 60 tackles (29 for loss) with five sacks as a junior in 2024. Johnson is one of the many high-profile recruits visiting Georgia over the weekend, and it's the Bulldogs that are the current favorite to land his commitment, according to On3's Steve Wiltfong. Georgia coach Kirby Smart leads his team onto the field before the start of the SEC Championship game at Mercedes-Benz L. Jones / USA TODAY NETWORK Illinois and Penn State hosted Johnson on official visits in May. He also plans to visit Syracuse, Miami, Florida and Florida State before finishing out the summer back at Georgia on June 20. Advertisement "I feel like Georgia has led for much of this year in his process," Wiltfong said. "Miami, Florida and Syracuse are some of the other heavy hitters ... But coach Trey Scott, Georgia's defense, style of play, culture are all things that have resonated with him. Georgia has been the leader in this recruitment." Head coach Kirby Smart and position coach Trey Scott have recruited among the best along the defensive line. UGA's 2025 class featured No. 1 defensive lineman Elijah Griffin, and NFL stars like Jalen Carter, Travon Walker and Jordan Davis are a testament to the development in Athens. The Bulldogs do have some stiff competition for Johnson, though, and nothing is certain at this point in his recruitment. Erie students put their law skills to the test at ECBA mock trial competition
Some of the region's best and brightest high school students got an inside look at our judicial system. Over the past two days, the Erie County Bar Association has hosted a mock trial competition at the Erie County Courthouse. Millcreek Twp. moving ahead with Zem Zem Shrine Club assessment About 100 students from six regional high schools competed and if it weren't for their young faces, you'd might just mistake them for actual attorney's based on their arguments. Imagine you're sitting in a courtroom for a trial. Witnesses are being questioned about the actions of a defendant, corroborating evidence, and giving in to disclosing information after being grilled by attorneys. But as arguments start to really hold their ground, you realize that these convincing arguments are coming from high school students who have practiced and researched for weeks to get ready for a mock trial competition. Several arrested on various charges after New York police chase, raid 'The mock trial event here teaches a lot of the students definite qualities on time management, personal responsibility, and it really tasks you to digging into all of the paperwork, statements and really close analysis and formulating your argument on top of that,' said Ben McCrory, the 'prosecution attorney' from Northwestern High School. Students directly took on the roles of attorneys, witnesses and timekeepers as they acted out a civil or criminal trial as both the prosecution and defense and pled their case to the jury which consisted of Erie County Bar Association practicing attorneys and judges. 'The level of commitment by the kids is really exceptional for 17, 18, maybe even 19 years old and the bravery it takes to get up in front of a mock jury, a mock judge, and all of your friends and family watching. I really commend them for the time they spent, their preparation,' said Lisa Presta, a senior partner at MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton LLP. One of the teams competing was from Northwestern High School and for some of the students, it was their first time ever in a courtroom. This was the first competition for the new coach of the mock trial team he said he was just as nervous in the courtroom as his students probably were but was proud of their accomplishments. 'How you raise objections in the courtroom, how you craft your opening arguments and your questioning, and closing statements. It's been a lot of fun getting to learn through it with them,' said Zach Petty, mock trial advisor and head coach at Northwestern High School. Teams that advance from this competition will compete in Harrisburg for a chance to represent Pennsylvania in the National High School Mock Trial Championship. 'And they take away that kind of advocacy and verbal skills that you really hope is going to continue to increase with the next generation,' Presta said. Erie County Council discusses potential salary increase for elected officials 'It's truly been a great experience. I was unsure how it was going to go, but it's been one of the best groups and experiences that I've had in my high school career,' McCrory went on to say. Students didn't immediately hear the verdict after the trial but they'll find out on Friday if their arguments held water in the eyes of the jurors. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
