Darius Slay tells Steelers to 'stop playing' and pay Cam Heyward
One of the most polarizing topics currently dominating Steel City headlines is undoubtedly Cam Heyward's contract dilemma — and one veteran defender has his back. On Friday's episode of the Not Just Football with Cam Heyward podcast, special guests Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay wasted little time addressing the elephant in the room — comparing the contract situation to that of Watt. The conversation quickly got away from the group, spiraling into Slay warning the Steelers to get a deal done quickly. "We need you to get it done, you took a big tole in me coming here," Slay told Heyward on the podcast. "So, we need you out there now. Tell them to stop playing, right now." Why Heyward's negotiation is so hotly debated is because he's only one year into his two-year extension signed last September — but the Steelers veteran also argued the plan all along was to ask for more money after an All-Pro caliber year. Another Steelers veteran in a similar situation as Heyward is All-Pro K Chris Boswell — but if Pittsburgh could only pay one, let us know which contract is more important here. Joey Porter Sr. wants Steelers coaching job again — but won't force anything
Steelers legendary OLB Joey Porter Sr.'s passion for coaching is still red hot. On a recent episode of the Not Just Football with Cam Heyward podcast, Porter reiterated his desire to return to coaching while discussing what it's been like watching his son, Joey Porter Jr., from the stands: 'Until they give me a suite, I said I got to sit in the stands, 'cause I want to be the full fan,' Porter said. 'I sat in Penn State for four years, sitting in the stands. I ain't about to try and use my Steeler power of being on the sideline — 'cause it's giving mixed emotions. I know how much I really do want to coach. I'm not trying to sit down there looking like I'm trying to ask for my job back — knowing I would take it back — but you don't want to come off like that. And I want [Porter Jr.] to be a man and do his thing.' Porter Sr. served as the Steelers' defensive assistant in 2014 and the team's outside linebackers coach from 2015 to 2018 — until HC Mike Tomlin informed him they wouldn't renew his contract. While the current Steelers OLB coaching spot is filled by Denzel Martin, offering Porter another defensive assistant role could be the perfect proving ground for the Pittsburgh legend. First-Round Pick Derrick Harmon Thought Steelers Were Going to Pass on Him
First-round defensive tackle Derrick Harmon thought the Pittsburgh Steelers were going to pass on him in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Pittsburgh Steelers used their first-round pick (No. 21 overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft on Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon, but that isn't how he thought things were going to play out on night one. Advertisement Harmon recently revealed he strongly believed that the Steelers were going to pass on him for a much bigger position of need. 'No, I thought y'all were going to come quarterback first. I did. I kept seeing it,' Harmon said on the latest episode of 'Not Just Football with Cam Heyward.' 'So once I seen [I was picked], I was surprised. But I was happy because I came on my 30 visit and coach [Mike] T. and Omar [Khan], they was just nothing but love and showing nothing but love to me, and telling me, 'If you there, we going to get you.' But you never know how the draft will go because the draft can go either way.' Pittsburgh did have some intriguing quarterback options on the board at No. 21 in Mississippi's Jaxson Dart (No. 25 to New York Giants), Louisville's Tyler Shough (No. 40 to New Orleans Saints and Alabama's Jalen Milroe (No. 92 to Seattle Seahawks). Advertisement However, the Steelers needed to address their aging defensive line as well. That's exactly why Heyward never had any doubt Harmon would end up in the black and gold. 'Oh, I knew,' Heyward said. 'They were talking to me. They were like, 'They like this one,' and so, it was if you were going to be available to us. And I knew we weren't taking a quarterback.' Pittsburgh eventually took a quarterback with its sixth-round pick (No. 185) in Ohio State's Will Howard, but snagging Harmon was always the ideal scenario. In 2024, the 6-foot-4 1/2, 313-pound defensive tackle recorded 45 tackles, five sacks and a pair of forced and recovered fumbles at Oregon. Bengals' heated rival comments on Trey Hendrickson standoff
Bengals' heated rival comments on Trey Hendrickson standoff Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson showing up at practice and giving a 20-minute interview about his contract drama with the team commanded the attention of the NFL. That includes direct rivals such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, who probably aren't all that upset about the standoff between the NFL's sack leader and a team that can't afford to be without him. Steelers star Cameron Heyward even joked about the situation when asked on an episode of "Not Just Football with Cam Heyward" recently. "They don't have enough money," Heyward said. "I dare you to go pay him." RELATED: Cincinnati Bengals 2025 game-by-game predictions following schedule release If nothing else, it speaks to the perception of the Bengals right now nationally. The longer the Hendrickson drama continues, the more the goodwill from paying up big for Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins fades. It's not that simple, of course. The Bengals agree Hendrickson is underpaid and want a new deal for him. But he's under contract for one more year after signing a recent short-term extension and has threatened holdouts and retirements in past years that haven't come to fruition. The fact he's 30 years old throws more leverage to the team, as he's unlikely to sit out. But apparent promises about contract extensions and a lack of communication from the team has turned things ugly, publicly. As always, it's on the Bengals to sort matters like these out to steer public perception in better directions. But until then, rivals and everyone else will have their say like this. The Pittsburgh Steelers released their 2025 schedule. Get home game tickets
Vivid Seats is the New York Post's official ticketing partner. We may receive revenue from this partnership for sharing this content and/or when you make a purchase. Featured pricing is subject to change. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has been nothing but steady since he began his tenure in 2007. Over the past 18 seasons, the squad has gone at least .500 each year and won Super Bowl in 2008 (and lost in the Big Game in 2010). However, for the first time in ages, the team's status appears to be a question mark. Advertisement As of now, the front office is yet to sign an established starting quarterback — although they've been rumored to be interested in 41-year-old future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers — and have Mason Rudolph and 2025 rookie Will Howard sitting atop the depth chart. To add insult to injury, the Steelers also recently traded star wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys because it was 'time for a fresh start,' according to general manager Omar Khan. Still, the franchise has a lot of exciting pieces. Pro Bowlers Isaac Seumalo, Cameron Heyward, T.J. Watt, Patrick Queen, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Miles Killebrew and Chris Boswell are on the roster. Plus, they traded for D.K. Metcalf, signed projected starters Darius Slay Jr. and Brandin Echols and drafted defensive tackle Derrick Harmon and running back Kaleb Johnson. Advertisement 'Don't panic, stay patient, we'll get to work,' Heyward said on the latest episode of his show 'Not Just Football with Cam Heyward.' 'I think sometimes we can jump off the ship and think the ship is sinking. We got work to do. And, you know, whoever won the offseason isn't gonna win the regular season, is not gonna win the Super Bowl.' Now that the schedule is live, we have an idea of how it will all go down. Huge 2025 home games include a showdown against Metcalf's former team, the Seattle Seahawks (Sept. 14) as well as matchups with the Green Bay Packers (Oct. 26), Buffalo Bills (Nov. 30) and Baltimore Ravens in the final game of the season. If you want to be there, tickets are available for all eight home games at Pittsburgh's Acrisure Stadium as of today on Vivid Seats. Advertisement Not familiar with Vivid Seats?
