ON TV deletes promo for Maha El-Sagheer show following her art plagiarism scandal - Screens - Arts & Culture

ON TV has removed the promo for Egyptian influencer, TV presenter, and designer Maha El-Sagheer's new show Kalam Kebir (Big Talk) from all social media platforms, after she was found to have claimed artworks by internationally acclaimed artists as her own. The promo of the show, which was to launch this month, revealed a star-studded lineup of guests, including Ahmed El Sakka, Hend Sabry, Mohamed Sami, Hesham Maged, Ahmed Fahmy, Sherif Mounir, Bushra, Aya Samaha, Ahmed Mourad, Miran Abdel Warith, Mostafa Khater, and Bassem Samra. The show was expected to be Maha's return to TV following her divorce from actor Ahmed El-Sakka after 26 years of marriage — a separation that also garnered significant public attention. Stolen Wings The promo was deleted after El-Sagheer falsely claimed authorship of a painting, titled Made Myself Some Wings, which was later revealed to be created by Danish artist Lisa Lach-Nielsen. Daughter of the late iconic hairdresser Mohamed El-Sagheer (1945–2021) and ex-wife of 26 years of renowned actor Ahmed El-Sakka, El-Sagheer appeared on the widely popular Egyptian TV programme Maakom, hosted by famous Egyptian TV host Mona El-Shazly. The episode, which was aired during Eid El-Adha (5 and 6 June), featured several media personalities, including El-Sagheer, who showcased the Danish artist's painting Made Myself Some Wings and several other paintings, allegedly belonging to other Western artists, as being of her creation. The Danish painting quickly drew attention from its actual creator, who wrote a post on the subject on Instagram earlier this week: Lach-Nielsen wrote: "It's pretty cool to see your work on the big screen in a popular TV show in Egypt—a country with 140 million people. And it would be even cooler if your name were actually mentioned! But Maha El-Sagheer, a famous influencer, TV presenter, and designer, forgot to do that. Instead, she claimed that she painted the piece." Lach-Nielsen clarified that Made Myself Some Wings, which she created in 2019, was not the only misattributed work. According to her, El-Sagheer also presented paintings by three other artists as her own. "However, I choose to take it as a huge compliment that Maha El-Sagheer likes my work so much that she actually wants to commit a crime (according to Egyptian and international copyright law and the Berne Convention) by using it for branding and promoting herself," Lach-Nielsen added. Hours after this statement, the Danish artist was flooded by messages, mainly from Egyptians. In response, she made another post on Instagram saying: "I was not prepared for the reaction I got to the post I made yesterday. What I'm most surprised about is the amount of supportive messages and comments from Egyptians who apologise on behalf of their country. I think that's quite outstanding, and I must assure you, that I never thought that Maha's behaviour represents the Egyptian people." Apology amid backlash Following the scandal and the Egyptian public uproar, El-Sagheer has issued a public apology on her social media. "I made a mistake. I wronged the Danish artist Lisa, all artists, and the platform that gave me a voice," Maha El-Sagheer wrote in a Facebook post. "Most importantly, I wronged myself. Going through the most difficult time in my life does not justify what happened. I am sorry, and I am deeply disappointed in myself," she added. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

Water is Egypt's only existential threat, Nile rights non-negotiable: FM Abdelatty on GERD - Foreign Affairs

Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has described water security as Egypt's sole existential threat, stressing that the country will not allow its historical Nile water rights to be compromised. Speaking in an interview with presenter Lamis El-Hadidy on ON TV Sunday evening, Abdelatty said: 'We [Egyptians] must trust the state and its institutions—they are fully aware of the importance of this issue and will not hesitate to defend Egypt's water rights.' He noted Egypt's annual water needs exceed 90 billion cubic metres, while its Nile share stands at just 55.5 billion. Per capita water availability is under 500 cubic meters per year—well below the United Nation's (UN) water poverty threshold of 1,000. 'This poses a major water challenge for the state… placing Egypt in a state of severe water scarcity.' Regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Abdelatty stated that negotiations with Ethiopia have stalled after 12 years of talks, accusing Addis Ababa of using the process to enforce a fait accompli. Between 2020 and 2024, Ethiopia unilaterally completed the dam's five-stage filling and began operating two turbines—without an agreement on filling or operations with its downstream nations, Egypt and Sudan. In December 2023, Cairo announced the end of negotiations, citing Ethiopia's refusal to engage on proposed legal or technical solutions. Red Sea security, Suez Canal traffic Abdelatty also addressed security in the Red Sea, saying Egypt is the most affected by disruptions to navigation. 'More than $8 billion in direct net losses have resulted from the decline in Suez Canal traffic.' Ship traffic through the canal has dropped by over 65 percent, he said, with monthly losses from reduced Red Sea navigation reaching $600 million. The Suez Canal, which previously carried 12 percent of global trade, has seen shipping diverted via the Cape of Good Hope since Houthi attacks near the Bab El-Mandab Strait intensified in late 2023. Yemen's Houthi rebel group says the attacks target ships linked to Israel, the US, and the UK in support of Palestinians. Despite a US-Houthi ceasefire deal brokered by Oman last month, the Houthis later stated Israel was not part of the agreement. Abdelatty said Egypt is in contact with Iran to help pressure the Houthis to halt attacks. 'We are speaking with the Iranians to pressure the Houthis to refrain from targeting ships. This is one of the main topics in our discussions… and we are engaging with all regional and international parties.' He added that the Omani foreign minister is expected in Cairo this week to discuss Red Sea maritime security. Red Sea coastal states council Abdelatty called for the rapid activation of the Council of Arab and African Coastal States of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, established in 2020 by eight littoral countries of the region. 'We are engaging with our Arab and African brothers to expedite the establishment and operationalization of the Council.' He reiterated that Red Sea security is the responsibility of its coastal states alone, rejecting any foreign military presence in the region. 'This is a red line and a clear Egyptian position.' At a press conference in January 2025 with the foreign ministers of Eritrea and Somalia, Abdelatty stated that Egypt rejects any non-littoral military presence and supports Somali sovereignty. 'We reaffirm our commitment to Somalia's stability… and support the government in extending state control… and combating terrorism.' Tensions rose after Ethiopia signed a deal with Somaliland in early 2024, granting it access to the Red Sea in exchange for recognizing the breakaway region. Somalia views Somaliland as part of its territory. 'We have conveyed our position on the Red Sea to all relevant actors in the region, including Turkey... Our stance is very clear: we will not accept, under any circumstance, the permanent presence of any non-coastal party on the Red Sea.' In December 2024, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a Somali-Ethiopian agreement to end their year-long dispute, calling it a 'historic' step toward renewed cooperation. OPEN// FM: We are finalizing ceasefire deal on Gaza including 60-day truce

CAIRO, June 30 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affaires, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said that Egypt is currently working on an anticipated agreement regarding the Gaza Strip, which includes a 60-day truce, with the hope of moving to a subsequent phase. In an exclusive interview with "ON TV" satellite channel Saturday night, Abdelatty added that international parties, most notably the United States, have become increasingly aware of and convinced by the soundness of the Egyptian approach and vision, which assert that all these issues are interconnected, and that there can be no security or stability in the region without addressing the core of the conflict: the Israeli-Palestinian issue. Abdelatty continued by saying that clear messages have also been conveyed to the Israeli side: that there will be no security or stability for Israel or the region without addressing the Palestinian cause and reaching just and lasting peaceful solutions. The Foreign Minister noted that the United States understands the importance of any future agreement on Gaza including clear guarantees for the sustainability of a ceasefire. He emphasized that the ceasefire on January 19 could not have been achieved without the intervention of the new US administration, even before officially taking office, and expressed appreciation for President Donald Trump's vision in working toward a sustainable ceasefire, which should lead to a comprehensive settlement. Egyptian FM: No Mideast Stability Without Palestinian Solution

H-Tayea Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt continues to work tirelessly to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, stating that Cairo is engaged in coordinated efforts with Qatar and the United States to halt what he described as 'ongoing crimes and systematic starvation' in the Gaza Strip. These efforts have been sustained for over 21 months since the events of October 7, 2023. In an interview on the ON TV program Kelma Akhira, Abdelatty noted that the current geopolitical context is more favorable for reaching an agreement on Gaza, citing increased recognition among key international actors, especially the US, of Egypt's comprehensive vision. He stressed that peace and stability in the Middle East are impossible without addressing the root of the conflict: the Israeli-Palestinian issue, with the Palestinian cause at its core. 'The message is now clear to Israel: there will be no security or stability without resolving the Palestinian issue and achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace,' he stated, adding that this stance is increasingly echoed by the European Union and other global powers. Responding to a question on recent remarks by US President Donald Trump about a potential Gaza agreement in the coming weeks, Abdel Aaty affirmed the seriousness of American engagement. 'This is true. The January 19 ceasefire agreement in Gaza would not have been possible without the intervention of the current US administration,' he said, pointing to Washington's influence and Egypt's desire for further American involvement. He added that while the January agreement yielded promising results, Israel later violated the truce and resumed attacks without justification, despite a previously positive diplomatic climate. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
