ON TV deletes promo for Maha El-Sagheer show following her art plagiarism scandal - Screens - Arts & Culture
The promo of the show, which was to launch this month, revealed a star-studded lineup of guests, including Ahmed El Sakka, Hend Sabry, Mohamed Sami, Hesham Maged, Ahmed Fahmy, Sherif Mounir, Bushra, Aya Samaha, Ahmed Mourad, Miran Abdel Warith, Mostafa Khater, and Bassem Samra.
The show was expected to be Maha's return to TV following her divorce from actor Ahmed El-Sakka after 26 years of marriage — a separation that also garnered significant public attention.
Stolen Wings
The promo was deleted after El-Sagheer falsely claimed authorship of a painting, titled Made Myself Some Wings, which was later revealed to be created by Danish artist Lisa Lach-Nielsen.
Daughter of the late iconic hairdresser Mohamed El-Sagheer (1945–2021) and ex-wife of 26 years of renowned actor Ahmed El-Sakka, El-Sagheer appeared on the widely popular Egyptian TV programme Maakom, hosted by famous Egyptian TV host Mona El-Shazly. The episode, which was aired during Eid El-Adha (5 and 6 June), featured several media personalities, including El-Sagheer, who showcased the Danish artist's painting Made Myself Some Wings and several other paintings, allegedly belonging to other Western artists, as being of her creation.
The Danish painting quickly drew attention from its actual creator, who wrote a post on the subject on Instagram earlier this week:
Lach-Nielsen wrote: "It's pretty cool to see your work on the big screen in a popular TV show in Egypt—a country with 140 million people. And it would be even cooler if your name were actually mentioned! But Maha El-Sagheer, a famous influencer, TV presenter, and designer, forgot to do that. Instead, she claimed that she painted the piece."
Lach-Nielsen clarified that Made Myself Some Wings, which she created in 2019, was not the only misattributed work. According to her, El-Sagheer also presented paintings by three other artists as her own.
"However, I choose to take it as a huge compliment that Maha El-Sagheer likes my work so much that she actually wants to commit a crime (according to Egyptian and international copyright law and the Berne Convention) by using it for branding and promoting herself," Lach-Nielsen added.
Hours after this statement, the Danish artist was flooded by messages, mainly from Egyptians. In response, she made another post on Instagram saying: "I was not prepared for the reaction I got to the post I made yesterday. What I'm most surprised about is the amount of supportive messages and comments from Egyptians who apologise on behalf of their country. I think that's quite outstanding, and I must assure you, that I never thought that Maha's behaviour represents the Egyptian people."
Apology amid backlash
Following the scandal and the Egyptian public uproar, El-Sagheer has issued a public apology on her social media.
"I made a mistake. I wronged the Danish artist Lisa, all artists, and the platform that gave me a voice," Maha El-Sagheer wrote in a Facebook post.
"Most importantly, I wronged myself. Going through the most difficult time in my life does not justify what happened. I am sorry, and I am deeply disappointed in myself," she added.

Ariana Grande Affirms Commitment to Music
Yara Sameh Ariana Grande has reassured fans that making music remains a priority, even after her ventures into the 'Wicked' universe and her upcoming role as part of the voice cast in John M. Chu's 'Oh, the Places You'll Go' film. The pop star took to social media to explain that she has read the comments and isn't closing a chapter on the music aspect of her career, even though acting has taken priority as of late. 'Very silly of you all to assume that just because i have my hands full with many things that i plan to abandon singing & music … !!! it is and has always been my lifeline. there will need to be room made for all of it. 🧚🏼♂️,' she wrote. 'It may not look exactly like it did before but i much prefer how it looks in my head. i am having fun. i feel grateful and excited and inspired. :) finding a balance, between many projects and endeavors i love, and doing it my own way… so i'm working on a plan to sing for you all next year. even if it's just for a little. i love you.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ariana Grande (@arianagrande) Grande, of course, hasn't left her music career behind. Last year, she released her seventh album 'Eternal Sunshine' and, this past March, dropped 'Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead,' featuring six additional tracks (including an extended version of the intro). She, however, did not tour for 'Eternal Sunshine,' though her social media suggests that smaller shows could potentially be in the works. In a statement to Variety, a representative for Grande reinforced her message, claiming that music will always be a focus. 'Ariana's plate is definitely full right now, but she's genuinely enjoying this chapter,' says the rep. 'She's loving the opportunity to dive deeper into acting, and she remains incredibly hands-on with her various businesses. That said, Ariana has always been and continues to be a musician first. The goal is to find a rhythm where all of these creative outlets can coexist, and she's very much in the process of building that balance out.' Grande is currently building on the success of 'Wicked' with the upcoming release of 'Wicked: For Good,' set to hit theaters on November 21. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Um Kolthoum at the heart of 33rd Arab Music Festival and Conference - Music - Arts & Culture
The management of the Music Festival and Conference announced that Um Kolthoum will be the central figure of its 33rd edition, planned to take place in October 2025 The decision is aligned with the Ministry of Culture designating 2025 the Year of Um Kolthoum, and a year-long celebration to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Egyptian singer's death. During the meeting of the Festival's high committee held this week at the Cairo Opera House, director of the event's 33rd edition,Tamer Ghoneim, also underscored that the festival will focus on presenting exceptional musical and vocal performances that both reflect the richness of Arab heritage and showcase contemporary musical creativity. In addition, the Fetsival will serve as a platform for promising new talents to express themselves. Ghoneim added that several influential and creative figures who have made significant contributions to the field of Arab music will be honoured during the festival. During the same meeting, the Opera's chairman, Alaa Abdel Salam, stated that the upcoming edition will feature developments aimed at enhancing the Festival's status as a leading platform for Arab music in the region. He added that the festival will gather renowned stars of Arabic singing alongside young talents, and will also host discussions and academic studies related to contemporary music issues. The Arab Music Festival and Conference is Egypt's largest annual event dedicated to showcasing Arabic music. During the festival's days, a large selection of concerts showcase Egyptian and Arab musicians, ensembles and orchestras taking place on stages operated by the Cairo Opera House. These include theatres within the Cairo Opera House itself, as well as the Gomhoreya Theatre and Arabic Music Institute, extending to the Sayed Darwish Theatre in Alexandria and the Damanhour Opera House. Year of Um Kolthoum The year 2025 has already held numerous activities that paid tribute to the Star of the East. In January this year, the Cairo International Book Fair dedicated a special segment to Um Kolthoum, which includes musical performances and an exhibition of rare documents and photographs at the National Library and Archives. In February, the ministry's General Authority for Cultural Palaces organized the Um Kolthoum Festival for Music and Singing, which spanned across various governorates. The same month, the National Media Authority hosted a grand artistic celebration, rekindling the legacy of Egypt's media hub while paying a special tribute to Um Kolthoum's family. The 9th edition of the Aswan International Women Film Festival (2-7 May 2025) has been named after Um Kolthoum, whose face decked the festival's official poster. Throughout the year, the Cultural Development Fund, another ministry-linked body, organized cultural and artistic events in Cairo and Alexandria. The celebrations extend beyond Egypt's borders. In February, Cairo Opera's Arab Music Orchestra, conducted by Alaa Abdel-Salam and singers Rehab Omar and Iman Abdel Ghani, performed Um Kolthoum's songs at the Paris Philharmonic Hall (Philharmonie de Paris), France. In July, the celebrations dubbed Um Kolthoum in Paris, took place at the prestigious theatre La Salle Gaveau, featuring Egyptian artists Marwa Nagy, Reham Abdel-Hakim, and Amira Selim in the Star of the East's repertoire.
