Indian Armys First Pahalgam Revenge: Ex-Pakistani Army Commando, LeT Terrorist Suleiman Shah Eliminated

In a significant win for security forces, three terrorists were killed under 'Operation Mahadev' in the Dachigam area of Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar district on Monday. Among them were two terrorists linked to the brutal incident in Pahalgam on April 22, including Suleiman Shah, who was reportedly the mastermind. All three were killed in an intense gunfight with security forces in the higher reaches of Dachigam National Park, near the Mahadev peak in the Harwan area of Srinagar. This came after an anti-terrorist operation was started on Monday by the security forces in the Dachigam National Park. Who Is Suleiman Shah? NDTV reported, citing sources, that Suleiman Shah was a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist and an ex-commander of the Pakistani Army's Special Service Group (SSG). Later, he joined the terrorist outfit. The report further stated that Suleiman Shah infiltrated India in September 2023. Over a year later, in October 2024, he allegedly led a terrorist attack on a camp housing workers of a private firm, killing seven civilians. He was also reportedly involved in the Baramulla attack in which four security personnel lost their lives. The Indian Army, J&K Police, and the security forces have been launching aggressive anti-terrorist operations across the area targeting terrorists, Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and sympathisers of terrorism to dismantle the ecosystem of terror in the UT. Operation Mahadev IANS quoted an army official as saying, 'The operation is still going on in the area. The exact identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained.' 'The anti-terrorist operation was started following Intelligence inputs. Reinforcements were rushed to the spot as the area is densely populated and the terrain under operation is tough,' an official said. OP MAHADEV Contact established in General Area Lidwas. The heinous terrorist attack outraged the entire country, and the government gave the Indian Armed Forces a free hand to avenge the brutal killings. Following this, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'Operation Sindoor' and carried out target-specific strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), destroying nine terror bases. Pakistan retaliated to India's precision strikes by targeting military and civilian facilities, destroying scores of homes and other private property and religious places, including a temple, a gurdwara, and a church in Poonch district of Jammu division. In the resultant escalation, 18 defence bases of the Pakistan armed forces were damaged. However, on May 10, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement after Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) reached out to his Indian counterpart.

Pahalgam Mastermind Suleiman Shah Was Ex Commando Of Pak Army's Elite Unit

After three months and six days, the security forces hunted down the mastermind of a terrorist attack in which 26 civilians were shot dead in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam on April 22. The security forces avenged the attack by killing Hashim Musa, alias Suleiman Shah, in an encounter near Srinagar along with two terrorists today. Suleiman Shah, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, is a former commando of the Pakistan Army's elite unit - Special Service Group (SSG). He later joined UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed's LeT to carry out terror activities, sources told NDTV. In a joint operation of the Army, CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Operation Mahadev was launched earlier this morning to track, corner and hunt down the terrorists. The killing of Suleiman in the operation is being viewed as a major success for the forces. After the Pahalgam attack, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had announced a Rs 20 lakh reward for anyone providing information about Suleiman. Suleiman infiltrated India in September 2023 and started terror operations in South Kashmir. In October 2024, he led an attack in which seven civilians were killed when terrorists opened fire on a camp housing workers of a private company who were building a tunnel. He was also involved in an attack in Baramulla in which four security personnel were killed in action. Sources in security agencies told NDTV that he was involved in at least six terrorist attacks. After the Pahalgam attack, a house-to-house search was carried out by security forces to track Hashim Musa/Suleiman Shah. Operation Mahadev All the terrorists, it is learnt, were "high-value" targets and foreign nationals. According to reports, the security forces acted on an intelligence input and launched the operation in the Mulnar area of Harwan. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area, and a combing exercise is on. OP MAHADEV - Update Three terrorist have been neutralised in an intense firefight. Operation Continues. #Kashmir @adgpi @NorthernComd_IA — Chinar Corps🍁 - Indian Army (@ChinarcorpsIA) July 28, 2025 NDTV has also accessed a photo of the terrorist hideout that was targeted in Operation Mahadev. The visuals show multiple guns in the hideout located deep inside a forest area. According to sources, Carbine and AK-47 rifles, 17 rifle grenades and other arms and ammunition were recovered during the encounter. Security forces suspect that the terrorists were planning a big action in Jammu and Kashmir. The security forces were keeping a physical and electronic surveillance. The forces got a clue about a Chinese ultra radio communication being active, after which the operation was carried out. The Lashkar-e-Taiba uses the Chinese radio for encrypted messages, and in 2016, it was also called WY SMS. Operation Sindoor On the intervening night of May 6 and 7, India carried out precision strikes around 1 am on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam attack. India struck bases in Pakistan and PoK from where terrorist attacks were being planned and executed. Nine sites were targeted in the strikes under the codename 'Operation Sindoor' - an ode to the women who lost their husbands in the Pahalgam attack. India's retaliatory strike was designed to dismantle key logistical, operational, and training infrastructure used by LeT, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizbul Mujahideen, and other affiliated networks. Each of the nine sites selected for the operation had a history of association with major terror plots and infiltration attempts directed at India. One of the sites, Muridke, is the headquarters of the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is run by Hafiz Saeed, and Bahalwapur in Pakistan's Punjab province is the base of Jaish-e-Mohammad, an outfit run by Masood Azhar.

According to intelligence sources, Musa was a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist backed by Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir and was one of the most wanted militants operating in the Kashmir Valley. His elimination marks a significant success for security forces amid an ongoing campaign to dismantle cross-border terror infrastructure. The operation began Monday morning after security forces, acting on inputs, launched a massive search in the Mulnar area of Harwan, close to Dachigam National Park, about 20 km from Srinagar. Contact was established with the terrorists, leading to an intense firefight. The Army confirmed that three terrorists were neutralised, though identification is underway. '#OperationMahadev is still continuing. As per the initial reports, three bodies have been observed and seem to be neutralised. It will take us some time for identification, and parties are still inside,' said IGP Kashmir Zone Vidhi Kumar Birdi. The Army's Chinar Corps stated: 'Three terrorists have been neutralised in an intense firefight. Operation continues,' and added that additional reinforcements and drones have been deployed to aid the search. Earlier in the day, Chinar Corps posted on X, 'OP MAHADEV – Contact established in General Area Lidwas. Operation in progress.' The three slain terrorists are believed to be Pakistani nationals affiliated with LeT, said SSP Srinagar. While intelligence had indicated that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack may have shifted base to the Dachigam region, it has yet to be officially confirmed if all three were directly involved in that incident.
