Tramell Tillman Talks 'Severance' Secrets, Dance Moves, And Milchick's Mysterious Backstory

If you've been watching Severance, then you already know that Seth Milchick is one of the most intense, mysterious, and meme-worthy characters on TV. Apple tv+ Played by the enigmatic Tramell Tillman, Milchick went from being a slightly terrifying corporate enforcer to a fan favourite, and it turns out, there's a lot more to him than big words and dance moves. In the latest episode of Seasoned Sessions, we sat down with Tramell Tillman to talk all things Milchick – from representation and microaggressions to what Seth might be like behind the walls of Lumon. Tramell's route into acting is far from traditional – he was studying in med school before pursuing his passion. Apple tv+ Tramell told us that he 'fell in love with acting' as a child, but due to not having any mentors within the industry, he settled on becoming a doctor. After a pivot, in 2014, he became the first Black man to graduate with an MFA in acting; 'Hopefully I'm paving the way for someone else,' he shared. The famous Milkshake moves were freestyled. Apple tv+ Tramell made it clear that while he did freestyle, Milchick's vibe is very different to his own: 'How he moves is a machine, so it really was just tapping into this other energy he has and just let him fly.' He thinks Milchick may have a different approach to the severed floor than Cobel, and even Lumon as a whole. Apple tv+ Episode eight – Sweet Vitriol – explored Harmony Cobel's backstory, and we learned just how deeply her life was intertwined with Lumon, explaining her dedication to Kier. Since we've not seen much of Seth outside of Lumon, we wanted to know if Tramell thought he may have a similar background to Cobel. While he doesn't know his backstory, he pointed out that though things like the ORTBO and kindness reforms, Milchick's trying to offer the innies something different to what they've had before. Tramell considers the Kier paintings as one of the catalysts in Milchick's character arc. Apple tv+ In the Severance podcast, Tramell asked, 'Does Milchick know he's Black?' He explained what he meant by that, saying, ' Does he identify with his Blackness, with the culture? That's what I meant. Because even in real life, many people assimilate, or suppress parts of themselves to fit in – especially in corporate environments.' And we can all agree that Milchick went on a journey of identity this season. Tramell thinks the stakes were raised once he got promoted, and felt the pressure to deliver; 'I think every decision that he makes from episode three to 10 is influenced by that Kier painting and the cost of what it is to be a leader on the Severed floor without having the support.' The microaggressions and that scene with Drummond were (unfortunately) very relatable to Tramell. Apple tv+ In Season 2, Milchick gets penalised for using 'big words,' and the moment hit hard. 'I've had my speech policed often for being too articulate,' Tramell shared. 'And that scene with Drummond felt very, very real. You know, there is this expectation of Blackness and expectation of how we're supposed to speak and communicate.' Who would Seth be friends with outside of Lumon? Tramell reckons it would be Irving. Apple tv+ Tramell shared that it was painful to watch how things panned out between Irv and Seth, but on a lighter note, 'Irving's got swag. They'd definitely bond over the swag.'

Of course, the finale is just one of several episodes of Severance that have made Sarah's jaw drop. After all, the actress didn't foresee a lot of the twists that have unfolded in the second installment, which also stars Adam Scott (who plays Mark Scout), Britt Lower (Helly Riggs), Patricia Arquette (Harmony Cobel), Tramell Tilman (Seth Milchick) John Turturro (Irving Bailiff) and Zach Cherry (Dylan George). Venturing out of the Lumon offices and into nature for episode four, during which the employees on the severed floor have a work retreat called "ORTBO," a.k.a. "Outdoor Retreat Team-Building Occurrence." "I really loved episode four because of the obvious reason—it's just so different from the other episodes," Sarah said. "And we were filming on location at Lake Minnewaska, and it was just so beautiful. We were staying at a beautiful resort with cabins and stuff. Severance Stars Set the Table for Burt and Irving's Ham Dinner With John Noble: ‘There's a Little Tension!'

Apple TV+'s Severance is ready to answer the age-old question: What happens when an Outie has dinner with his Innie's ex's Outie, plus that man's husband? When last we tuned into the acclaimed drama, John Turturro's Irving Bailiff — newly terminated at Lumon following the whole ORTBO mess — confronted the man who'd been repeatedly spying on him from a car at night. That lookie-loo was revealed to be Burt Goodman (Christopher Walken), another Lumon alum whose Innie of course engaged in an 'unsanctioned erotic entanglement' with Irving B., prior to his own forced retirement. More from TVLine Severance Recap: Are You In or Out? Matthew Rhys to Lead Widow's Bay Series for Apple TV+ Amy Adams to Star Opposite Javier Bardem in Apple TV+'s Cape Fear Burt explained to Irving that he simply was curious about the man who had furiously banged on his door that night when three-fourths of the MDR team was 'awakened' in their Outie lives, thanks to the OTC protocol. A contrite Burt went so far as to suggest that Irving come over to his home, properly and invited, for a ham dinner with him and his husband (Cecil) Fields. Speaking with TVLine ahead of the season, Walken remarked, 'I'd forgotten that he cooks a ham, that ham is his specialty. 'It's interesting that an actor would be cooking another actor a ham!' he added with a chuckle. Burt's partner was briefly glimpsed, from afar and in silence, in Severance's Season 1 finale, then played by character actor Arthur Brooks. But for Season 2, the Apple TV+ drama enlisted Fringe vet John Noble to give the character — and Episode 6's dinner-for-three — some real bite. 'I'd seen [John's] work before but I'd never met him' prior to Severance Season 2, Walken shared. 'They said, 'Here's your husband,' and away we go!'' Regardless of how expensive a bottle of red wine Irving shows up with, how well could this ham dinner go? After all, both Burt and Irving surely are curious about the 'erotic entanglement' they shared that neither of them, as Outies, can remember. 'The whole scene is navigating brand-new territory,' John Turturro told TVLine, 'and lots of stuff is still bleeding in from their relationship as Innies.' Meaning that while Irving and Burt don't outright recall what transpired between them inside Lumon's walls, 'It's still there,' Turturro asserts. 'It's there in all the characters, you can't completely escape that.' Suffice to say, many a glance, and many a spoken word, carries extra, unsaid weight as the dinner conversation unfolds. 'It's a big adjustment when someone who is the apple of your eye is taken,' Turturro noted. Ditto, 'seeing what their relationship is like and how that person' — meaning Fields — 'is suspicious of what [their partner] has done or not done,' as an Innie. Fields, in turn, is sure to have thoughts about sharing a meal with his husband's ex-of-sorts, especially as Burt shares details about his 'scoundrel' past, and what led him to Lumon. As the wine flows, Fields himself shares his opinion on whether Innies should be able to 'experience love.' Previewing the unpredictable repast to come, Walken said, 'It is one of those dinners that you dread, like one of those holiday dinners with your family where you're not supposed to talk about politics but somebody does, and everyone starts fighting and everyone wishes they hadn't shown up.' In other words, 'Yeah, [there's] a little tension!'Best of TVLine Yellowjackets' Tawny Cypress Talks Episode 4's Tai/Van Reunion: 'We're All Worried About Taissa' Vampire Diaries Turns 10: How Real-Life Plot Twists Shaped Everything From the Love Triangle to the Final Death Vampire Diaries' Biggest Twists Revisited (and Explained)

Who Is Severance's Miss Huang? EP and Co-Stars Hail the ‘Incredible,' Theramin-Playing Teen Sarah Bock

'Why are you a child?' 'Because of the year I was born.' More from TVLine Severance Creator Opens Up About 'Troubling' Consent Issues Raised in Episode 4, 'Really Devastating' Aftermath of Retreat Was FBI Agent Reckless? Is New NBC Drama Giving PLL? Did Grammys' Doechii Conjure Harry Potter? Who Covets Severance Parka? More Qs! Severance Stars Breaks Down That Intense Episode 4 Outing, [Spoiler]'s Villainous Turn - Plus, Grade It! That exchange in the Severance Season 2 premiere gave viewers an early indicator of what they could expect from Lumon's new, young and unflappable deputy manager, Miss Huang. But she has multitudes, we would learn, most recently by way of the theramin recital she gave during the MDR team's Episode 4 ORTBO retreat. 'I did learn how to play' the motion-operated instrument, Miss Huang's portrayer, Sarah Bock, told Vulture. 'I play piano and guitar, so I figured I could maybe pick it up quickly, but it was definitely more complicated than I was expecting.' Bock, age 18, is a student at Northwestern University, and her few previous acting credits include mostly voice work but also a role in the award-winning 2022 indie Bruiser, which stars All American's Jalyn Hall. So, how did she land a plum role on one of TV's most acclaimed series? Severance executive producer Ben Stiller, speaking about Miss Huang's casting, told TVLine, 'This wonderful young actress came in and auditioned, and I was just blown away by her. 'She's got such poise and such intelligence and such sensitivity, and yet also has the ability to put forth this imposing facade, too,' the EP added. 'She's just been a gift to the show. I love her.' Adam Scott, speaking with TVLine alongside Stiller, chimed in that Bock is 'excellent' — though he conveniently failed to mention his repeated losses to her at a popular New York Times puzzle game. As Tramell Tillman, who plays Miss Huang's supervisor, Seth Milchick, shared with TVLine, Bock 'is so intelligent, and a wiz at Wordle! She and Adam play all the time, and she she beats him all the time, just like that.' As a castmate, 'She's incredible, absolutely incredible,' Tillman said. 'It was such a joy to be able to work with her. She's very professional, very funny, very inquisitive about this world and what we're doing, and always willing to take direction. 'The relationship between Milchick and Miss Huang is not as pleasant as the relationship between Tramell and Sarah…,' the actor noted with a chuckle, 'but it's been a blast to work with her.' A somewhat-tense meeting between Milchick and Miss Huang in Severance Episode 6, premiering Friday, Feb. 21, will shed light on the nature of her employment at Lumon. Ahead of that, a special event held in Episode 5 (out Feb. 14) will present an opportunity for more theramin playing, though Miss Huang will be irked to be snubbed of TVLine Yellowjackets' Tawny Cypress Talks Episode 4's Tai/Van Reunion: 'We're All Worried About Taissa' Vampire Diaries Turns 10: How Real-Life Plot Twists Shaped Everything From the Love Triangle to the Final Death Vampire Diaries' Biggest Twists Revisited (and Explained)
