Out of the 11 dramas that NBC has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 5 (trailing only the #OneChicago trio and SVU). SVU, meanwhile, is averaging 5.7 million total viewers (with delayed playback) season to date, down 17% from last season (now airing opposite the freshman hit Matlock). Out of the 11 dramas that NBC has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 4 (trailing only the #OneChicago trio). When SVU returns for the new season, it will be down two detectives: Cast members Octavio Pisano (who has played Det. Joe Velasco since Season 23) and Juliana Aidén Martinez (who joined as Det. Kate Silva for the current 26th season) will not return as series regulars. The staffing shake-up also affects the show behind the scenes: Michele Fazekas (Gen V) was tapped in April to serve as SVU's showrunner for the coming season. She'll replace David Graziano, who joined the show in 2022; Fazekas was previously a writer and producer on SVU in Seasons 4 through 7. Law and Order: SVU fans mourn loss of two main characters in surprise shakeup

Law and Order: SVU fans mourn loss of two main characters in surprise shakeup Law and Order: SVU fans mourn loss of two main characters in surprise shakeup Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is losing two major cast members. In a surprise shakeup for the long-running police procedural, Octavio Pisano and Juliana Martinez, who play Detective Joe Velasco and Detective Kate Silva, respectively, are set to depart the series following the conclusion of the current season 26, Deadline reported. Pisano, 38, first joined the network drama during season 23 in 2021. Martinez, 34, was added to the cast last October. The reason for the pair's exit remains unknown; however, according to Deadline, it comes as several NBC shows have been hit by budget cuts, which have largely impacted casting, episodes, and renewals. ADVERTISEMENT The Independent has contacted NBC for comment. Back in April, Martinez celebrated wrapping production on the season, writing on Instagram: 'Thankful to everyone who has tuned in and this whole, wonderful cast tonight. Y'all ruled my world x.' She included a carousel of images of her and her co-stars. Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano on 'Law & Order: SVU' (Peter Kramer/NBC) The news has left fans shocked and disheartened, with many criticizing the decision. 'Im getting SICK OF SERIES REGULARS BEING AXED AFTER 1-2 SEASONS ON SVU!' one frustrated viewer wrote on X. 'Omg can they keep people for more than 2 seasons,' a second retorted. Mariska Hargitay as Det. Olivia Benson in 'Law & Order: SVU' (Virginia Sherwood/NBC) A third reacted to the news, saying: 'God DAMNIT! I loved Velasco.' 'That's too bad. Thought both were really great,' a fourth added, with another agreeing: 'Very sad to hear this news. I will miss Octavio and was liking Juliana.' 'Why is everyone leaving the show like what is going on?' another asked, while someone else insisted that it was 'too much change. There is no cohesion.' ADVERTISEMENT Another major cast member to have left in recent years is Kelli Giddish, who starred as Det. Amanda Rollins for more than a decade before leaving in 2022. She has since made guest appearances in a handful of episodes. Law & Order: SVU has been airing since 1999. The series, led by longtime star Mariska Hargitay, follows the New York City Police Department's Special Victims Unit, which is made up of detectives tasked with investigating sexually-based offenses. The popular series has yet to be officially renewed for a 27th season, though that announcement is expected soon. The season 26 finale of Law & Order: SVU airs Monday, May 15, on NBC. It will available to stream on Peacock the next day.

Octavio Pisano, who portrays Detective Joe Velasco, and Juliana Martinez, who is Detective Kate Silva on 'Law & Order: SVU,' are exiting the NBC series at the end of Season 26. 'I hope you tuned into Law & Order Crossover and Organized Crime tonight!! It's also a SZN wrap on SVU. ♥️ Thankful to everyone who has tuned in and this whole, wonderful cast tonight,' she wrote. 'Y'all ruled my world x.' 8 Juliana Aidén Martinez as Det. Kate Silva. Virginia Sherwood/NBC 8 Octavio Pisano on 'Law & Order: SVU.' Peter Kramer/NBC Despite calling it a 'SZN wrap on SVU,' the series is currently still going with the season finale, 'Post-Rage,' airing on May 15. 'Law & Order: SVU' follows detectives from the Special Victims Unit as they investigate and prosecute sexually based crimes. Many episodes are loosely ripped from the headlines. The series — created by Dick Wolf — premiered 1999 with Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson), Christopher Meloni (Elliot Stabler), Dann Florek (Donald Cragen), Richard Belzer (John Munch) and Ice-T (Odafin Tutuola), as the titular cast. 8 Mariska Hargitay as Capt. Olivia Benson, Juliana AideÌn Martinez as Det. Kate Silva, AimeÌ Donna Kelly as Capt. Curry, Octavio Pisano as Det. Joe Velasco. Peter Kramer/NBC Hargitay, 61, still leads the show with Ice-T, 67, while Meloni, 64, exited in 2011. The actor now stars in the spinoff 'Law & Order: Organized Crime,' which is airing its fifth season on Peacock. In April, Hargitay reflected on starring on the procedural show for 26 years. 8 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' – Season 26. Peter Kramer/NBC 8 Juliana AideÌn Martinez on 'Law & Order: SVU.' Peter Kramer/NBC 'It feels like running a marathon, and when you're in it, all you see is this much ahead of you. I've been so busy, so challenged and it requires so much of me that all I can do is be on the treadmill of trying to keep up,' she said while on 'Sunday Today With Willie Geist.' Hargitay sees parallels between her and Benson climbing up the ranks of their perspective fields. 'I would describe it as sort of the perfect feminist story,' she expressed at the time. 'There are these stepping stones of growth and integration and owning something. It's been such a beautiful evolution and such a beautiful journey.' 8 Octavio Pisano as Det. Joe Velasco, Ice T as Sgt. Odafin 'Fin' Tutuola, Juliana Aidén Martinez as Det. Kate Silva, Mariska Hargitay as Capt. Olivia Benson, Peter Scanavino as A.D.A Dominick 'Sonny' Carisi Jr., Kevin Kane as Det. Terry Bruno. Ralph Bavaro/NBC via Getty Images The actress confirmed the casting stories, that she and Meloni stepped into a room together and Wolf, 78, said 'that's it.' 'Absolutely,' Hargitay stated when Geist, 50, asked if she felt that way too. 'It was sort of a once in a lifetime experience. I knew quickly this we had this kind of magical chemistry. Chris and I are polar opposites in terms of who we are as people and yet there was this ying yang. When they paired us I was like, 'Oh this is done.''
