Row erupts as KBC hosts officers Sofiya Qureshi, Vyomika Singh after Operation Sindoor

Amitabh Bachchan will host decorated officers from the Indian Armed Forces in the Independence Day special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) season 17. In a promo shared by the channel, Amitabh Bachchan is seen welcoming Colonel Sofiya Qureshi (Indian Army), Wing Commander Vyomika Singh (Indian Air Force) and Commander Prerna Deosthalee (Indian Navy). Sofiya Qureshi, Vyomika Singh share Operation Sindoor story on KBC(YouTube/@KBCIndia) The special episode will feature the officers recounting key moments from India's Operation Sindoor conducted against terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The appearance of the three officers, however, has sparked a controversy, with many netizens calling it a "PR" stunt and 'political mileage'. Both Colonel Sofiya and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh held press briefings while the mission was ongoing. The makers recently released a teaser of the episode, set to air on August 15, showing KBC host Amitabh Bachchan giving the officers a grand welcome. 'This is just unbelievable. Operation Sindoor heroes appearing on national TV show KBC Just because one 'nationalist' party wants to milk some votes?' one user posted on X. "Have you ever seen anything like this after a military operation in any serious country? How is this even allowed for someone in service? The current regime is shamelessly using our forces for its petty politics and hyper-nationalism," another user said. 'Our Army was sacrosanct, above politics, beyond PR. Today, Modi govt parades serving soldiers on shows like KBC for image building. Even our Army has been made a political tool for Modi's PR. Our forces are to defend the nation, not a politician's brand,' a user posted on X. A user also questioned if armed forces protocol allows sending officers on reality shows like KBC. "The Indian Armed Forces have some protocol, some dignity and huge respect. Politicians are ruining it for their personal benefit. That's shameful," he said. What the regulations say: Uniform use in social and cultural settings: Uniforms are generally discouraged in social venues such as restaurants, hotels, or while shopping — except when attending official social functions such as those held in the Officers' Mess. Headgear (caps) must not be worn inside such venues, including at social gatherings (explicitly listed alongside church services and formal meetings). Uniforms may be worn at social events within the Officers' Mess, including dances or gatherings organised by the military.

Policing is built on respect and cooperation, says Nagaland CM

Dimapur, Jul 23 (PTI) Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday said that policing is not merely a function of authority but a relationship built on cooperation and mutual respect. Speaking at the inauguration of the Nagaland Police NGOs Mess and the Nagaland Police Officers' Central Mess at Chumoukedima, Rio stated that law enforcement and administration form the backbone of governance. He reiterated the importance of civil-police coordination in maintaining peace and fostering development. He said that police forces should not operate through diplomacy or compromise, but rather 'serve with the highest standards of professionalism, impartiality, and integrity." He urged the personnel to let their conduct inspire public trust and confidence. Acknowledging the challenges faced by police personnel and their families, particularly regarding housing and working conditions, Rio assured them that the state government would continue to review and enhance support, sustenance, and welfare measures wherever possible and feasible. He said that the government is committed to equipping the police force with the latest technology, professional training, and modern infrastructure to make it more effective and result-oriented. Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, in his address, said that the newly constructed officers' accommodation has been designed to meet the needs of a modern institution. The new infrastructure includes facilities to house 24 officers and their families in the Officers' Mess, and accommodation for 64 non-gazetted officers in the NGOs Mess. He added that these buildings reflect the government's commitment to providing dignified, comfortable, and efficient spaces for the police personnel who serve the state with dedication and courage. Morocco's Crown Prince Hosts Dinner in Celebration of FAR's 69th Anniversary

Rabat — Morocco's Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan led Rabat's Officers' Mess to celebrate the 69th birthday of Morocco's Royal Armed Forces (FAR). The Crown Prince represented King Mohammed VI, FAR's Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff. The Army Corps General greeted the Crown Prince as he arrived at the venue. Following this welcome, Prince Moulay El Hassan inspected a Headquarters Battalion detachment that performed ceremonial honors, according to military officials. A lineup of top military and government leaders paid their respects to the Crown Prince after the inspection. These included the Head of Government, the National Defense Administration Minister, the Royal Gendarmerie Commander, the Chief of the FAR's 3rd Bureau, the Royal Air Forces Inspector, the Royal Navy Inspector, and the Delegated Arms Commander for the Rabat-Sale area. The guest list for the royal lunch featured Moroccan leadership, including government officials, parliamentary leaders, royal advisors, judicial authorities, constitutional body presidents, senior military officers, and foreign military attaches stationed in Rabat. Military installations across Morocco also celebrated the 69th anniversary of the creation of FAR, with flag raisings, public readings of the King's special message, decoration ceremonies for distinguished service, and formal military parades. The event marks nearly seven decades since the establishment of Morocco's modern military forces, which operate under the direct authority of the King. Earlier today, King Mohammed VI addressed an order of the day to FAR's officers, non-commissioned officers, and privates on the same occasion. His message recognized FAR's relentless efforts to preserve Morocco's peace and security. The King also commended Morocco's military contribution to the UN's international peacekeeping missions, urging them to fortify their capabilities to face challenges and unprecedented regional and international disruptions.
