Britney Spears Reaches A Major Milestone For The First Time In Her Career

Britney Spears hasn't released new music in years, and fans aren't expecting anything to drop anytime soon, but she still managed to have an exciting week on the charts in the United Kingdom. As one of her earliest albums returns, the singer also reaches a lofty landmark figure for the very first time, proving that her catalog remains hugely popular, even if her career is essentially inactive. Spears keeps The Singles Collection, a compilation of many of her most famous tunes, on two charts across the Atlantic. At the moment, it rises on both the Official Albums Streaming and Official Albums rankings, pushing to Nos. 53 and 64, respectively. The Singles Collection reaches 200 weeks on the Official Albums chart, the ranking of the most consumed full-lengths and EPs in the U.K. The tally is compiled by the Official Charts Company, using a methodology that blends both sales and streaming activity to reflect what the nation is listening to. The compilation is the first from Spears to spend 200 frames on the competitive roster. Only one other project by Spears has managed to rack up triple-digit stays on the Official Albums chart, and it' One More Time. Her debut full-length peaked at No. 2, and it's just one frame away from hitting two full years — or 104 weeks — on the tally. Her follow-up, Oops!... I Did It Again, which also stalled in the runner-up spot, has managed 53 turns, or just over one year, on the same list. Speaking of Oops!... I Did It Again, that project can also be found on two tallies — but not the same two as The Singles Collection. The sophomore studio effort from Spears reenters the Official Albums Sales chart at No. 83, and it also manages to debut on the Official Albums Downloads list at No. 41, reaching that tally a quarter century after it was first released. Oops!... I Did It Again was recently reissued to celebrate its milestone twenty-fifth birthday. The project, which was offered digitally and on physical formats, includes special goodies like remixes and other recordings, as well as photos and special colored vinyl for those who wanted to own the set on wax.

Taylor Swift's Downward Shift Is Unusual For Her

Taylor Swift has six albums on the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart this week — and all of them trending ... More downward, led by The Tortured Poets Department at No. 30. NEWARK, NEW JERSEY - SEPTEMBER 12: Taylor Swift attends the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards at Prudential Center on September 12, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey. (Photo byfor MTV) Taylor Swift often dominates rankings of the top-performing albums in most Western markets. Some frames are bigger than others when it comes to her extensive discography, and while the most successful superstar on the planet rarely has a truly lackluster week, it's unusual to see none of her albums climbing. A mix of continued fan activity and varying levels of competition typically works in Swift's favor, allowing at least one project to gain ground. This time around in the United Kingdom, however, her discography is uniformly trending downward. Swift currently occupies six spots on the Official Albums chart in the U.K. She sees half a dozen of her collections rank among the 100 most-consumed releases in the nation on the list that blends both sales and streaming activity. While holding onto that many positions is a surefire sign her music is still reaching a massive audience, all of those titles are currently on the decline. The Tortured Poets Department is Swift's highest-charting effort this frame, dipping two spots to No. 30. It's her only top 40 placement in the U.K. at this time. Folklore, Lover, 1989 (Taylor's Version), Midnights, and Reputation also appear on the Official Albums chart, landing at Nos. 59, 62, 70, 79, and 80, respectively. Midnights takes the biggest hit, sliding nine spaces. While all six of those titles may be on the way down, each has previously conquered the Official Albums Chart. All of them have spent more than a year on the ranking, with The Tortured Poets Department being the newest. That full-length has logged just 56 stays on the list — a number that's sure to grow, as the project is only slightly more than a year old. The story of Swift's performance changes when looking at the Official Country Artists Albums chart. That genre-specific tally includes two of the Grammy winner's efforts — Fearless (Taylor's Version) and her self-titled debut. Both projects manage slight upward movement, but neither performs well enough to appear on the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed studio albums in the European nation.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Return With One Of Alt Rock Music's Classic Albums

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of a select few rock groups that don't need to release brand new music to find success on the charts. That's especially true in the United Kingdom, where the alternative act can almost always claim at least one successful full-length, if not several. This frame, two projects by the California natives perform well enough to reach the rankings, as both Greatest Hits and the beloved Californication succeed — though the titles manage to do so in different ways. As is almost always the case, Red Hot Chili Peppers rise highest on the charts in the U.K. with the simply-named Greatest Hits. It's not uncommon for groups that have been around as long as the Red Hot Chili Peppers to keep compilations like this one on consumption rankings for years at a time. Interest in the band's catalog remains high, as people continue to press play on even just one or two tracks at a time within the nation. All that activity keeps the hits-packed collection on the weekly tallies. Greatest Hits climbs this week and almost becomes a top 40 success on both of the tallies on which it appears. It jumps from No. 45 to No. 37 on the Official Albums Streaming chart and lifts 10 spaces to settle at No. 44 on the Official Albums roster, which ranks the most-consumed full-lengths in the nation. Greatest Hits is almost always on the albums charts in the U.K., as it's clear that streaming activity is keeping the title afloat. Californication joins it on the rankings this frame… although the two releases don't overlap. While Greatest Hits is the more successful when it comes to platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, Californication is a bestseller this time around. The classic by Red Hot Chili Peppers reappears on both the Official Physical Albums (No. 79) and Official Albums Sales charts (No. 84). Greatest Hits isn't just the higher-rising of the two Red Hot Chili Peppers projects — it's also spent much more time on its respective lists than Californication. Between the two tallies, Greatest Hits has spent the least amount of time on the Official Albums chart, where it's now up to 454 frames. It recently passed a full decade on the Official Albums Streaming list. Californication, meanwhile, has yet to pass 250 frames on either roster on which it can be found.

Taylor Swift's Surprise Album Reaches A Momentous Landmark

Taylor Swift's Folklore hits 250 weeks on the Official Albums chart in the U.K., making it her third ... More project to reach the milestone. SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE - MARCH 02: EDITORIAL USE ONLY. (Photo by Ashok Kumar/TAS24/Getty Images for TAS Rights Management) Even a quiet week on the charts for Taylor Swift still sees half a dozen of her albums occupying space on some of the most competitive rankings in the United Kingdom. The singer-songwriter isn't promoting anything at the moment, and lately, she has remained fairly out of the spotlight — at least as out of the spotlight as Swift can manage. Her catalog remains so popular that she continues to control a sizable number of positions on several rankings with ease. Her full-lengths perform best, as millions of people continue to buy and stream the music that made her a superstar, and some of her most beloved collections manage to remain on album consumption lists for years at a time. It may be a particularly quiet frame for Swift, but it's a special one for her album Folklore. As of this frame, Folklore has spent 250 weeks on the Official Albums chart. As it reaches that milestone, it climbs two spots to No. 53. That's a fairly low position, considering it's currently the singer's second-highest rising title on the tally. Folklore is Swift's third release to spend 250 weeks on the Official Albums chart, which ranks the most consumed full-lengths and EPs in the U.K. The tally blends both sales and streaming data to reflect what listeners are truly enjoying. The surprise release follows in the wake of 1989 and Lover. The former remains Swift's longest-charting success, with 373 frames on the ranking, while Lover has collected 281. It's likely that Swift's next title to reach the 250-week milestone will be Reputation, which is now up to 216 frames somewhere on the roster. Folklore also reaches 250 weeks on the Official Albums Streaming chart, where it sits directly in the middle of the 100-spot roster, at No. 50. At the same time, it appears on the Official Physical Albums ranking, though only just barely. It comes in at No. 98 on the list of the bestselling titles across formats like CD, cassette, and vinyl. Folklore still needs a few more months before it reaches the 250-frame landmark on that ranking.

Five Taylor Swift Albums Rock Back Onto The Same Charts At The Same Time

Taylor Swift is one of the bestselling – and most consistently-bestselling – artists in the music industry. Not only can she move massive numbers of albums and songs when they're new and properly promoted, but she also maintains impressive longevity, especially when it comes to pure purchases, which typically drop off fairly quickly for most releases. Her full-lengths continue to sell months, even years, after their initial release. Fans can't seem to buy enough copies of her most famous works, especially on CD and vinyl – formats she has helped revive. This week in the U.K., five of Swift's albums return to the sales charts. For most artists, that would mark a career high. For her, it's just another frame, one which yet again highlights her ability to sell, sell, sell. Five of her full-lengths reappear on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums chart, and she's back in charge of them as well. The biggest winner this week among Swift's catalog is The Tortured Poets Department. The collection doesn't just bounce back onto the sales tallies, it also returns to the No. 1 spot in the U.K., once again becoming the bestselling album in the nation. It manages to do so as it marks 52 weeks (a full year) on both rosters. 1989 (Taylor's Version) appears lower on the list, landing in the seventies on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts. Meanwhile, three other titles — Folklore, Lover, and Midnights — also return to the two rankings, rounding out Swift's impressive quintet of returning bestsellers. The Tortured Poets Department benefits from a massive uptick in sales, spurred by the album's birthday and the release of signed CDs. The title rockets from No. 24 to No. 1 on the Official Albums chart, which tracks the most consumed collections in the U.K. It also reappears on the Official Album Downloads chart at No. 82. While not related to purchases, the project lifts several positions on the Official Albums Streaming tally as well, rising back into the top 20 to land at No. 18. Many of Swift's efforts — including all five returning sales titles, as well as Reputation — also appear on the Official Albums chart and the Official Albums Streaming rankings this week. Two other full-lengths, Fearless (Taylor's Version) and her self-titled debut, which helped launch her to stardom so many years ago, also find space on the Official Country Artists Albums roster.
