AC/DC's Smashes Are Uniformly Soaring

AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" climbs to No. 5 on the U.K.'s Official Rock & Metal Singles chart as four of ... More the band's classics rise simultaneously. INDIO, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 07: (EDITORIAL USE ONLY) (L-R) Stevie Young, Brian Johnson, Angus Young, and Cliff Williams of AC/DC perform onstage during the Power Trip music festival at Empire Polo Club on October 07, 2023 in Indio, California. (Photo byfor Power Trip) Even without releasing anything new, AC/DC still commands an incredible amount of space on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart in the U.K. The group ranks among the most successful names on the list at the moment, with multiple smashes appearing at the same time. Not only does the Australian rock outfit take up more real estate than almost any other act, but this time around, every one of its tunes manages to climb as sales increase. These decades-old classics are, somehow, still improving after so much time. AC/DC fills four spaces on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, meaning the group controls 10% of the entire 40-position ranking, which looks only at the bestselling tunes in those styles. This time around, all four smashes — which have already spent years on the list — manage to climb at least one spot, with most surging multiple rungs at once. "Thunderstruck" is AC/DC's highest-rising hit on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart this week, which is usually the case. The title climbs to No. 5, growing by one position from its previous placement at No. 6. Fellow time-tested winners "Back in Black," "Highway to Hell," and "You Shook Me All Night Long" also climb ever so slightly, appearing this frame at Nos. 21, 24, and 34, respectively. Among that bunch, the least successful track is "You Shook Me All Night Long," which is still regarded as a generation-defining win. The tune is the only one of the four that has yet to reach No. 1, as it has thus far stalled in the runner-up spot. It has also spent the least amount of time on the tally, with just 457 frames to its credit. That sum would be historic for almost any other act, but when it comes to AC/DC, the other three charting successes on the Official Rock & Metal Singles list have all passed 600 frames. "Thunderstruck" is the only one of AC/DC's songs that manages to appear on more than one tally this week. As it climbs on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, it also advances on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads lists, coming in at Nos. 66 and 62, respectively. In both instances, sales increased so much that "Thunderstruck" was able to push forward by more than 10 spots.

Sleep Token Continues Its Winning Streak With Another No. 1

"Damocles" becomes Sleep Token's third straight No. 1 on the U.K. Rock & Metal Singles chart and ... More breaks into the top 40 on several other British rankings. LEEDS, ENGLAND - AUGUST 27: (EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Vessel of Sleep Token performs during Day 3 of Leeds Festival 2023 at Bramham Park on August 27, 2023 in Leeds, England. (Photo by) In the span of just over half a decade, Sleep Token has evolved from a relatively unknown rock band to one of the hottest acts on the harder side of the genre. The outfit has been growing its fanbase rapidly with each full-length release, and the next one will be the biggest yet. On May 9, the band will drop Even in Arcadia, its fourth full-length, which is sure to propel it to new heights on rankings around the globe. Three singles have already been pushed from the project, including "Damocles," the most recent. The latest release from the upcoming collection debuts on several charts in the United Kingdom, helping the masked musicians maintain a winning streak that underscores just how hot Sleep Token is right now. "Damocles" starts its time at No. 1 on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, which ranks the bestselling individual tracks in those styles. The new single earns Sleep Token its third leader on the genre-specific list. All three of those chart-toppers hail from Even in Arcadia. The trio of champions has reached the summit of the Rock & Metal tally back-to-back-to-back, with Sleep Token managing one new No. 1 per month since March. The group first hit No. 1 in late March of this year with "Emergence." Just a few weeks later, in mid-April, "Caramel" also spent a frame at the top. Now, on the chart dated May 8, "Damocles" joins those two cuts with its first turn on the throne. Sleep Token has now scored six hits in total on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart throughout the years. Three tunes from its 2023 album Take Me Back to Eden reached the tally, but none managed to crack the top 10. The closest the band came was a No. 14 peak with "The Summoning." Beyond its genre-specific success, "Damocles" also debuts inside the top 40 on three other U.K.-based rankings. It opens at No. 25 on the Official Singles chart, which ranks the most consumed songs in the country. It lands in the same position on the Official Singles Downloads tally and appears one spot lower — No. 26 — on the Official Singles Sales roster. The tune narrowly misses entering the upper tier on the Official Streaming chart, where it launches as the No. 45 most-streamed cut in the U.K. at the moment.

Led Zeppelin's Biggest Hit On The Charts Was Never Actually A Single

Led Zeppelin's Four Symbols album returns to the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, hitting 600 ... More weeks on the tally in the process. (Photo by The U.K. music charts are a little less crazy this week than they were last time around, when Record Store Day and a slew of brand new releases shook up the rankings. As some of those formerly-bestselling titles begin to vanish, a number of classic albums and singles — the kinds that have spent dozens, if not hundreds, of weeks on various tallies — are bouncing back. One of the top favorites that rock back onto multiple rankings is Led Zeppelin, as the band blasts back in with both a beloved album and a huge single. Led Zeppelin currently appears highest on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. The band's self-titled, untitled full-length — often called Led Zeppelin IV or simply Four Symbols, due to the quartet of characters featured on the cover — returns to the U.K. list of the bestselling rock and metal titles. The collection reenters the 40-spot tally at No. 27 this week. Four Symbols isn't just back on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart — it returns and reaches a very impressive milestone. As of this period, the project has now spent an incredible 600 weeks somewhere on the ranking. Despite all that time lingering on the tally, the set has only hit No. 1 once. It has earned a number of stays close to the summit, as it's thus far racked up a total of 40 weeks inside the top 10. As Four Symbols bounces back onto the albums chart, one of its most famous cuts also enjoys some renewed success. "Stairway to Heaven" manages to become a top 40 hit, as it finds space on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart yet again. Unlike Four Symbols, the album, "Stairway to Heaven" has never risen to No. 1 on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart. Its highest peak remains at No. 3 — though, remarkably, the smash has now spent a staggering 628 frames somewhere on the singles roster. "Stairway to Heaven," which is widely recognized as perhaps Led Zeppelin's most famous and beloved composition, was never actually released as an official single when Four Symbols debuted. The group chose not to promote the track in that way — perhaps wary of its nearly eight-minute runtime, which made it an awkward fit for radio formats at the time. That decision didn't stop "Stairway to Heaven" from becoming a staple, and one of the band's most famous tracks.

Led Zeppelin Scores A Top 40 Album And Song Simultaneously

Led Zeppelin lands two spots on U.K. rock charts as Four Symbols nears 600 total weeks and 'Stairway ... More to Heaven' reenters the singles ranking. 1968: Rock band "Led Zeppelin" poses for a portrait in 1968. (L-R) John Bonham, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones. (P0hoto by Michael) Led Zeppelin hasn't released new music in decades, but this week, the group manages an impressive feat on the charts in the United Kingdom. The band lands inside the top 40 on not one, but two of the country's most important rock rankings. The rockers manage to score a bestselling, top 40 smash with both an album and a song, which speaks to the act's ongoing popularity and the strength of that catalog. The band claims just one full-length bestseller in the U.K. this frame, and it's a familiar favorite. Four Symbols — the title by which Led Zeppelin's fourth album is referred to on the charts in that country, though it's officially an untitled release — is back inside the top 40 yet again. This time around, the collection lifts one space to No. 36 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, which ranks the bestselling titles in those genres. Four Symbols once ruled this list and has returned to it many times, thanks to consistent sales and passionate fans. Now, it's on the verge of hitting another impressive milestone: 600 weeks spent somewhere on the ranking. If it can stick around for just one more frame, the effort will officially become a 600-week veteran on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. Even if it disappears before that happens — which it has done plenty of times before — it's likely only a short break. It's not just Four Symbols that finds space on a U.K. tally this week. Led Zeppelin also manages to return to the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, giving the band a hit song in addition to its ever-popular full-length. 'Stairway to Heaven' reappears at No. 39 on the genre-specific singles roster, narrowly breaking into the 40-spot list. It's impressive that the title still manages to chart at all, especially considering how long ago it was released and the fact that it's not currently being promoted – and hasn't been in many years. Over the course of its 627 total appearances on the ranking, 'Stairway to Heaven' has never reached No. 1. The closest it came was a peak at No. 3, which may surprise longtime fans who think of the track as one of the greatest rock songs of all time.

Linkin Park Blocked From A New No. 1 By An Unlikely Champion

Linkin Park has returned — again – and the band's momentum continues. The Grammy-winning hard rockers are back with a brand new single, and it's become a quick success in the U.K. The new cut, titled 'Up From the Bottom,' launches this week across a number of charts, and in most cases, it manages to reach impressive heights right out of the gate. The track performs especially well on one genre-specific tally, but its notable launch is not limited to that one roster, which speaks to how popular the group is in the country. 'Up From the Bottom' debuts on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, a ranking that Linkin Park has become very familiar with over the years. The track doesn't just start off well, it nearly runs the show. The single opens at No. 2, narrowly missing out on the top spot and what could have been another genre-specific champion for the band. This time around, it's 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls that keeps the rockers from running the show. That somewhat unlikely winner is a non-mover at No. 1 this frame, holding strong decades after it initially became a global hit, and after what's now become a stunningly-long reign. 'Iris' has now led the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart for 195 weeks – a nearly unheard-of stretch on any ranking. Beyond the rock tally, 'Up From the Bottom' also enters the top 10 on a pair of other U.K. charts this week. The tune starts at No. 6 on the Official Singles Downloads list and comes in at No. 8 on the Official Singles Sales ranking. These two rosters count purchases only, as they highlight which cuts fans are willing to pay for. The digital-only tally has now played host to nine Linkin Park top 10s, while the sales-focused list has seen just five enter that highest tier. But neither of those sums comes close to the band's success on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, where 'Up From the Bottom' gives Linkin Park its thirty-fourth top 10 placement. While 'Up From the Bottom' is an obvious hit in many ways, it doesn't become an immediate smash on every tally right out of the gate. The tune launches at No. 42 on the Official Singles chart, which ranks the most-consumed songs in the U.K. based on a combination of sales and streaming. Somewhat frustratingly, it misses entering the important top 40 region by just two spots. 'Up From the Bottom' also finds space on the Official Streaming roster, where it starts off at No. 91. 'Up From the Bottom' serves as the lead single from the upcoming deluxe re-release of From Zero, which served as Linkin Park's first major project following the loss of frontman Chester Bennington more than half a decade ago. Nine tunes from the standard edition have appeared on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, and three of them climbed into the top 10. 'The Emptiness Machine' spent six weeks at No. 1, while 'Heavy is the Crown' and 'Two Faced' peaked at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.
